Top 5 races you attended in 2011
With the year running out think back to the best/most memorable 5 races you attended this past year(if you didn't make it to 5 that's ok too). This isn't about a video you saw or a race you heard about. These are races you actually witnessed. The following are mine-
1) Indy 500: May 29th Dan Wheldon passes JR Hildebrand in the last few hundred feet. 2) Haubstadt MSCS: May 29 Chase Stockon gets by young Fitzpatrick on the last corner of the last lap. 3) Ky Speedway IndyCar:Oct 2nd ED Carpenter beat Franchitti back to the line by a nose. 4) Haubstadt MSCS: July 30th Levi Jones holds off a last lap slider thrown by Blake Fitzpatrick during the 40 lap Hoosier Sprint Nationals. 5) Belle-Clair Powri: FanFeat night 1 Nick Knepper gets past Andrew Felker in the last lap of the race. Just Missed the Cut: Haubstadt USAC: Hut 100 The battle between feature winner Zach Daum and Hagen was wild. Terre Haute USAC:Sprint week Chris Windom holds off a hard charging Keith Bloom. Lets Hear your top 5- *Note- Your top races don't need to be last lap passes. Maybe you enjoy other aspects of racing. |

Hometown hero Jimmy McCune takes the AVSS win after NTR holder Schultz comes to the front from 10th starting position only to see his evening end with a flat tire. |

Re: Top 5 races you attended in 2011
#1. Poweri National Midgets, "The Battle at the Center", Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. One of the best dam midget races I've seen in years.
#2. USAC National Sprints, the THAT edition of "Indiana Sprint Week", Terre Haute, IN. Great race from green to checkers. #3. USAC Silver Crown, "The Hoosier Hundred" Indiana State Fairgrounds. A pretty good show from green to checkers. #4. The Indianapolis 500. No need to expand on this race. #5. USAC Silver Crown, "The Ted Horn Memorial". The Magic Mile on the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. The first 25 miles of this race were as intense and exciting as you will ever see from these cars on a mile dirt track. Clauson and Larson went after each other as hard as it's possible to do so. The first 1/4 of this race more than made up for Kyle stinkin' up the remainder. Honorable mention must go to 2 or 3 shows at Ventura Raceway we were lucky enough to have watched on Ventura's free internet feed. We have never been to the track so I can't take credit for witnessing them in person but a couple or three of those races we watched on the internet were fantastic. Too bad the God awful announcing somewhat spoils the excitement on the track. Maybe they'll wise up out there and replace him with someone good. |
Re: Top 5 races you attended in 2011
No particular order
Indiana midget week at Putnamville POWRi at Little Belleville Gas City the night Justin Grant came from 18th or so to win. I always like seeing a good drive from the back. Kokomo Sprint Week Little 500 and seeing Chris Windom come from 2 laps down with about 20 to go to win. |
Re: Top 5 races you attended in 2011
#1 Indiana Midget Week @ Lincoln Park Speedway- This was one of the best races I've seen in the last 5 or 10 years. Eight passes (maybe more) for the lead in the last two laps. Enough said. Many people left that night knowing that Sprint Week HAD to come to this track.
#2 Indiana Sprint Week @ the Terre Haute Action Track. Bloom stepped up and was fearless. Ballou, Cottle and Hunter came from the back to the front. But, in the end, Windom was the man and won it going away. All the way through the field, this race was just utter chaos, from green to checker. #3 Hoosier Sprint Nationals@ Tri-State Speedway. Wes Mac gave Levi fits. Blake Fitzpatrick and Jon Stanbrough waged a war that went on for most of the race. And Blake made a furious attempt at taking the win away from Levi, only to come up a few feet short. #4 Indiana Sprint Week @ Kokomo Speedway. Windom looked to be the man, but was caught and passed by a hard charging Hunter Schuerenberg. Hunter's run that night may have been the strongest individual performance I saw this year. #5 May 29th MSCS show @ Tri-State Speedway. Chase Stockon snatches the victory away from Braylon Fitzpatrick with slide job, on the last turn, of the last lap. You went there just expecting a regular pretty good MSCS show, but saw that place lit up by these two young drivers. Honorable mention: The two Dave Darland last corner of the last lap passes @ LPS, to take wins away from Seth Parker and Chris Windom. Jerry |
1-Kokomo Sprint Week-normally my perennial #1
2-Indianapolis 500-because it's the Indianapolis 500 3-USAC/Indycar at the Milwaukee Mile-Bobby East came through the field time and time again to win the Silver Crown. A true shame this event couldn't get any traction. 4-Night before the 500-always entertaining 5-Hoosier Hundred Honorable mentions-USAC sprints at the gasser in April, rumble at ft wayne, IndyCar weekend at Mid-Ohio. Re: Top 5 races you attended in 2011
Hard to narrow it down, but I really had a good time at these events:
Indianapolis 500 POWRi midgets "The Battle at the Center" Three day midget-sprint show at Tri-City (Pontoon Beach / Granite City) Eldora USAC Three Crown USAC Silver Crown at DuQuoin I can't leave out the POWRi midgets at Belle-Clair or Hut Hundred at Haubstadt, as well as just about any of the sprint car races I attended there |
Re: Top 5 races you attended in 2011
1 Justin Grant misses the heats starts on the tail of the b finishes third. Starts on the last row of the A and wins. It was a great run, and was done on a heavy and fast track at Gas City.
2 Opening night at Kokomo. The top 3 put on a great battle, and then 4th place Windom steals the win. 3 Little 500. Chris Windom passes Eric Gordon for the win after being 2 laps down late in the race. 4 Opening night at Ocala for USAC last turn pass. 5 Putnamville Midgetweek Clauson beats Larson after a lap after lap duel. |
Re: Top 5 races you attended in 2011
For what ever reason, I thought I saw a lot of good shows last year. Maybe it all the rainouts in the spring built the anticipation.
