Stewart's an idiot if he does this

Turns out Tony's crew chief is out of a job. Championship winning crew chief got canned after charlotte. Wonder if Stewart will have second thoughts now.

He hired Roger Slack, I'd think the first few races at Eldora might be a little iffy this spring. Unfortunately the first few races this spring include one of the few USAC shows.

As for the crew chief comment, I'm sure you would have said he was an idiot to leave JGR as well.

Smoke was smart enough to start his own team, hire the right people including Ryan Newman, attract the right sponsors, get a partnership with Hendrick, if he has a reason why Grubb shouldn't be back... then I'm not going to call him an idiot. While it does seem odd, I'm just a fan with very, very limited information. I'm sure he would have his reasons.

I haven't seen many "idiots" get to where Tony has gotten in his career. I am sure Tony will make the right decisions about the future of his race teams. I just hope he does keep Grubbs in some capacity with the team.

Yes he did win but only got there on a wing and a prayer ...remember in Aug he got rid of some "DEAD WEIGHT"....just because he ran good for 5 races and like crap for 4 races and won the championsip by the slimmest of margins should not change what happened the other 26 races.....look at the WHOLE PIC!!!!!!!!!!

and that is what he needs to do with ELDORA...look at the WHOLE PIC and the track surface needs to be fixed so EVERYBODY WINS...from the working man that has just enough to pay for a ticket to the rich guy that can throw money out the window....FIX THE SURFACE DAM-IT!!!!!!!!!

The best thing Tony did was get rid of Jessica Zemkin.:8:

Danika has to be at least 30 lbs lighter.

Rick Hendrick and Michael Waltrip have both offered jobs to Darian Grubb. Tony would be wise to reconsider.

Hotshoe65s 11/21/11 1:25 PM

Grubb is a smart man, I just don't think it would be smart if Tony let him go. That doesn't mean he has to be crew chief.

I don't know about that, although Tony is a sharp driver, but Grubb's call for Tony to stay out extra 10 laps I believe help win the race. But then again Tony did drive the wheels off that car

How do you connect my post to the crew chief driving the car, all I was saying was arm chair quarterbacking and calling someone an idiot is futile.

I'm a pretty big Stewart fan, but to compare Kulwicki's championship to this pseudo Hendrick championship 19 years later is quite a bit different.

I'm betting Grubb ends up with the title of 'Director of Competition" for Stewart-Haas racing

If Tony had been up on the wheel earlier in the season he wouldn't have been in tenth place come the chase. He won five races during the chase, zero during the season. You can't convince me his car was that bad prior to the chase. "Don't need a crew chief." Come on.

Maybe Zippy is gonna come over to S/H??? I would like to see Stenhouse drive for Tony again too. Maybe sign on Whitt in a few years! Just ramblin' out loud.

It seems that Addington has left Penske and the other idiot Busch to sign on with Stewart-Haas Racing. It will be interesting to see where Grubb ends up.

Re: Stewart's an idiot if he does this

Confirmed. Steve Addington is Smoke's new crew chief. I guess Steve was tired of the older Busch's mouth.

Re: Stewart's an idiot if he does this

This whole deal just doesn't make any sense. I'm just wondering if Grubb was "on loan" to Stewart/Haas to get them started. I seem to remember Grubb saying he didn't like being a crew chief when he filled in for Knaus a few years ago when Knaus got suspended at Daytona. Then to hear Grubb took the job with S/H suprised me when Tony started his team. I think the whole thing was pre-planned. Grubb was going to go back to Hendrick this whole time. It would be interesting to know if Tony ever tried to get Zippy before Addington. Zippy wouldn't come with Tony at first because Zippy thought it was too risky to leave something secure. Said he's got a family to think about.

Im confused (this happens alot though). You're not a fan of Ryan Newman? And you're on IOW? What's your beef with Newman? Former open wheeler, gets the job done... sounds like Tony made a ghost choice hiring him to me...
