Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
I have not been to Eldora since Jack won all four during the 4-Crown. Nor have I sat in the stands very often. I did spend quite a bit of time in the stands as a kid going to Eldora in the 1960's and '70's. It seems like we sat near turn one in the main stands.
I'm taking some newbies to the sport and would like to give them a great view of things. We plan to get there early. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, George Wilkins |

My personal preference is to sit in a lawn chair on the concrete terrace section towards turn one. This area is directly south of the main grandstands and it affords a great view of the action. Also if the wind is from the southwest it helps keep the dust and dirt to a minimum especially if you are taking new race fans. I plan on being there this Saturday night so if you see someone with a navy IOW hat or sweatshirt it probably could be me. Hope you enjoy the show and maybe I will see you there. Also, thanks for remembering Andrew. I appreciate all the support, thoughts and prayers. Mike |

Turn 4 in the stands, great view of the front straightaway and passing action in 3 and 4. It is also closer to the restrooms near the gate that are not by the concessions, no line. Couldn't comment on the dust, usually just wash it down. If you can, watching the action in the turns or the backstretch by the tunnel from the infield is pretty cool.

Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
FYI, I just became aware of the new reserved seat policy in effect for '08 events including the 5/10 USAC sprint show. ALL seats in the top eleven rows in ALL sections will now be reserved for an additional 2 bucks each. This can be done with a call to Eldora and providing a credit card number. No more getting there early and taping down a blanket in sections to the left or right (previously unreserved) of the middle sections. I did verify this info with a call. Seems to me, if they wanted more money it would have been simpler just to raise ticket prices for these less than super premier events, but this may work out better for them. So, if you don't wish to eat mud in the lower seats or be squeezed in tightly in the upper seats, a Plan B might be in order. Think I'll go to Twin Cities myself. :checkered:

Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
Usually, it's not so crowded that you can't check out which way the wind is blowing and test view some of the best available sections. As previously stated, for convenience, turn four grandstands is hard to beat.
And the turn three grandstands offers access to those same facilities, with a great view of the start/finish line, with a bit more of a walk. Jerry |
Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
I haven't been to a USAC race at Eldora yet that you couldn't find someplace near where you wanted without the reservations. Except maybe top three and the lawnchair area at the top of the stands.
Go, have fun and personally I like to sit a couple sections down from the press box. RR, Concessions close, Dust up high isn't very bad. down low, Take some goggles. Chuck |

Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
I always like to sit on the concrete terrace myself it allows plenty of leg room and I like my space. I usally sit over in turn 3 but it makes it a little difficult to see the action in turn one because of all the haulers in the infield. But hey it is the Big E and it is one fast track so who cares were you sit.:rolling oh and my personal track favorite food is the wings! They are pretty darn good!

Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
I usually watch the flag pole while I am pitside and sit upwind when I go to the top.
The last few trips though it didn't matter it was dusty where ever you sat. Hopefully this weekeknd will be different. Sorry Dusty, just calls em as I sees em. |

Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
The most important thing is to be in the infield for hot laps. It's one of the things that really makes my blood pump...
For the races, I like to move around. Turn one, main grandstand, turn four (eating dirt but the best view), and turn three all in one night - it's one of the best things about Eldora! |
Re: Eldora - Where to sit in the stands
First off, Hey Jeff Sweet! Yes, please tell your Dad I said hello. Sorry you missed that night at Paragon, we had a good night as I recall.
Second, thanks everyone for your suggestions. This group will consist of about 5 guys who have never experienced a sprint car race, let alone Eldora, so it should be fun to watch their faces during hot laps. :applaud: I agree, turn 3 would be fun but I can't walk that far these days. I'm all too familiar with it however. One year I was shooting video for ESPN's Speedweek (showing my age) and someone during hot laps dumped it down the backstretch. Well the whole front axle left the car and as I jumped back the front tires just caught the top of the fence and fell back on the track. I decided then that I'd rather be in the car instead of the infield. :O: I hope we have good weather, I haven't been out to a race in quite some time so I'm looking forward to it. Come see me if you can. I plan to sit near turn one either in the stands or in a lawn chair next to. I'll plan to wear a black ball cap that says "Stunt Crew" or my Jamaican Bob sled team red ball cap. Thanks guys. George Wilkins |
