"Gold Crown Midget Nationals" Oct 6, 7 & 8

ONE OF THE COUNTRY”S LARGEST MIDGET PURSES UP FOR GRABS AT THE 3RD ANNUAL GOLD CROWN MIDGET NATIONALS!

Teams support new purse structure as they get ready for one of Midget Racing’s grandest events!

PONTOON BEACH, Ill. (September 11, 2011) -- Kevin and Tammy Gundaker announced today the 3rd Annual Gold Crown Midget Nationals will offer one of Midget Racing’s richest payout for competitors with a total purse of over $100,000! The event, presented by Dupont and Color Master, is scheduled for October 6th through the 8th at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Il and has been one of premier midget racing events annually since its inception in 2009.

Payouts for Thursday and Friday’s qualifying races have been increased, as well as the prize money paid out throughout the “B” mains for all nights. “After listening to the many racers who travel and support the Gold Crown Midget Nationals, we restructured our purse to better support all of the racers who support our great event. While the overall purse remains at the same level for the 3rd year in a row, the restructured payout helps the more than 45 teams traveling in for our three day event” stated Kevin Gundaker, Promoter of Tri-City Speedway.

Top teams from the many midget sanctioning bodies across the country have already committed their support of the event. While the event is a United States Auto Club (USAC Racing) national points race for all three nights of racing, teams will not be required to hold a USAC license to race this event.

Along with the Midgets will be even more open wheel action as Tri-City welcomes the 410 non-wing sprint cars on all three nights, these will be unsanctioned. Jerry Coons, Jr. and Dave Darland will be among those drivers who will be competing in both classes.

Entry forms are being released on Tuesday September 13th

The payouts will be as follows:

Classes:
Thursday
Midgets $3,000 to Win $300 to Start
410 Non Winged Sprints $2,000 to Win $200 to Start

Friday
Midgets $3,000 to Win $300 to Start
410 Non Winged Sprints $2,000 to Win $200 to Start

Saturday
Midgets $10,000 to Win $700 to Start
410 Non Winged Sprints $2,000 to Win $200 to Start

For tickets and more information, log on to tricityspeedway.net or find us Facebook
For additional information contact Tammy Gundaker: 636-448-9111

Tri-City Speedway is located just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO in Pontoon Beach, IL. Take Interstate 270 to exit 4 (Hwy 203) and then go south on Hwy 203 approximately 1/2 mile to the track.

Thanks a million to Kevin and Tammy for this event. :9:
We appreciate the heck out of this show, and look forward to it each year.
Hopefully next season will bring a few more Midget shows and Sprint races as well.

I thought the sprints and the midgets were great last year. The track prep was good, really looking forward to it again this year. Tri-City is a very nice track, if you can make it, do try.

We were there last year. Great midget track! Fast & wide. The Saturday night feature last year was one of the best midget races I've ever seen. Lots of slide jobs at the front. Hagen won with a last corner pass for the lead. Can't wait to go back this year. Really glad to see it's non-wing sprints all 3 nights!

Tired of reading about all of the problems with midget racing. Trying to keep the one post about good news in midgets at the top of the board.

Does anyone know if they will run Sunday, in case of rain? I don't see anything on their web site.

Re: "Gold Crown Midget Nationals" Oct 6, 7 &

Don't know, but it is a good question.

coondog 9/17/11 3:52 PM

Here is a promoter that put up great money for the feature. Then they listened to competitors and spread the purse out more for the preliminaries and the B mains, still paying out a great feature purse. If people don't support this race and then come on here and complain about this race, or midget racing in general, they don't truly care about midget racing. And I wont hold back how I feel if that post starts. Thank you in advanced to the
Gundakers for this event and to all that support it, in the pits and the
stands.

If you like BBQ, it is hard to beat the 17th Street Bar & Grill at 1711 West Highway 50 in O'Fallon (exit 14 off I-64, then a short mile west. There is also a Sams, WalMart and some other stores on that exit.) Check out their web site at www.17thstreetbarbeque.com. Their awards list is too long to put on here. Check it out.

Went there last year, ribs were good but wasnt real big on their sauces. Going across the river to try Pappy's this year. Dont forget gas is MUCH cheaper on the Mo side of the river.

I took Frank's suggestion last year and dropped in at 17th Street for lunch on the way over to Granite City. The sauce wasn't exactly my cup of tea either, but I may have gotten the most perfectly smoked rack of ribs I've ever had. I think the guy that owns it has won the world championship of ribs three or four times, so that's not really a surprise. Another great place to get ribs, if you're heading over that way, from the east is Foxx's Den in Effingam. I stopped in there on the second day last year, because they were pictured on the "Food" sign before the exit on the I-70. I went in and asked the first waitress I saw how good their ribs were and she said "Sir, we smoke each rack of ribs no less than 14 hours." I almost hugged her when she said that.:D I knew I was in the right place and that place didn't disappoint. Plus, it's right off the exit (Seigel/Effingham, I think. Before you get to the main Effingham exits), at an exit that there's very little at, so you're on and off I-70 quickly. Another place, if you're coming from the west, is in Warrenton, Missouri, called Two Dudes Barbecue, which sits a half a mile or so South of I-70. They know what they're doing there, too and serve up a killer rack of ribs.

Last year someone on IOW recommended the Museum of Transportation on the west side of St Louis. Features a small display of cars & a LARGE display of retired train cars & locomotives. If you're a train fan, I highly recommend it. Volunteers take you on a walking tour at regular intervals. Our guide was a huge train fan, very knowledgeable & very friendly. He was thrilled that we kept asking him questions about the various cars on display. We went there after lunch & spent the entire afternoon.

I may take you up on that. It's hard to pass up good barbecue. I was going to meet you last year at this race and I ended up not finding you. Speaking of Oklahoma, did you ever try the ribs at Pappy's World Famous Barbecue, in OK City, just past the entrance to the old state fairgrounds race track? I got to the TNT race a little early, last year and stopped in that place. It was really good.

If you bring the young'uns visit St Louis City Museum. If you don't have kids visit the museum anyway. It is not what you expect. It is weird and wonderful and beer is served. Check it: http://citymuseum.org/site/

History buffs attending the Gold Crown might make the ten minute drive from Tri City to the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site for our "Flags Over the Mississippi: Struggle for Empire" event. Reenactors will portray American, French, and Spanish militias, as well as civilians. The LC Site is located on ILL Rt. 3, just north of 270. Things to do in St Louis within half hour drive of Tri-City Speedway

The Anheuser-Busch brewery tour is worth doing and it's free with 2 free beers of your flavor of choice at the end of it.

Grant's Farm is very much worth doing. It's compliments of Anheuser-Busch, this Busch family estate was once owned by Ulysses S. Grant. Animal shows, petting area and a tram ride through the wildlife preserve.

The Gateway Arch is neat if you have never been to the top. Just call ahead or go online and purchase your ticket to avoid the long wait times. The museum under the arch is really neat

The St Louis Zoo is a great zoo and it's free admission

If you like arts and thngs the Art Museum is near the zoo and free. Missouri Botanical Garden is near there and also free

The Science Center near the zoo is very cool but there is an admission charge

The "hill" area of St Louis has some great great Italian food. I like Rigazzi's the best. You just have to get a Rigazzi's fishbowl of beer.

A little further west in Chesterfield is the Kemp Auto Museum. Very nice collection of cars. Plus you can go to the Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Lotus dealer very near there and sit in exotic cars and dream.

If you like motorcycles the Moto Museum has a great collection.

Or we could have a giant BBQ at my house about 40 minutes from Tri-City

.
