In search of Track
Hello, My name is Tim Kelley and I am shopping for the opportunity to promote a track in the southern Indiana area. A fairgrounds, or established, it doesn't really matter. Wanta start small and grow. Please let me know of opportunities. Thanks

Re: In search of Track
Terre Haute Action Track certainly needs a promoter. I noticed that a link has been posted by sw1911.

Re: In search of Track
Its not in Southern Indiana, but Danville,Illinois is sitting there unused.
|
Go up north and purchase or lease Kamp motor speedway. That would be my first choice. The track was always pretty good.
Then there is vermillion county speedway, terre haute, and there is a lot of fairgrounds with unused 1/4 mile tracks. Here is an awesome track directory. http://www.onedirt.com/features/dirt-tracks-across-america-the-ultimate-dirt-track-guide/ If you click the state you want near the bottom of the page it will bring up google maps with icons everywhere there is, or has ever been, a race track. Very cool page. |
Just east of Vincennes, IN is a beautiful 3/8ths mile track in Sumner, IL - Red Hill Raceway.

Re: In search of Track
I figure that would be the case with most of the tracks that may be available. Thats why It might take a year or so to update for sprints and midgets. Has anyone heard anything about the fairgrounds track in salem. I would love to have that place. A track to build and give drivers, car owners, and fans stability. Not looking to get rich, just have fun and be around racing.

Re: In search of Track
Sumner Il. isn't far from Southern Indiana
|
Thunder valley in Salem is a pretty small track. It'd be lucky to be 1/4 mile around the outside wall. The fairgrounds would need a lot of work. As far as sprint and midget racing there, the thing to consider is the amount of open wheel racers from southern indiana and Kentucky. That would be the downside. Kentucky is all about late models.

Re: In search of Track
nathans1012, Thanks for the comment. I have been in racing all my life. Ran TQ and now have a Sprint. 54 years old and backing it in gets a little harder to do. I want to help other make there dream come true. Thanks again for your support.

Kamp Motor Speedway is just waiting for someone to re-open it. With the proper promoter and a little luck that place could become one of the best sprint car tracks in the midwest.

Re: In search of Track
your right. Kamp seems to have everything a person needs. I really want to do something for next year. Does anyone know anything about Red Hill in Sumner Il? gotta be able to make it work for everyone. kamp would be a dream track.

Re: In search of Track
Bunkerhill Speedway could be a good place if someone would give it a shot. it's been sitting for about 4 years or so since the last person that tried to promote it. Personally I think the ran the wrong division there/ There needs to be a weekly Midget track in Indiana; not just USAC races and specials. Run Midgets and other division that you think might work. The track is not far from the Kokomo Speedway; maybe about 20 - 25 north of the Kokomo area.

Re: In search of Track
I-69 will run into Chandlers backdoor if you know what I mean. Haubstadt gets alot of Evansville people. No fair this week and Tri-State had a very good crowd last nite. If it were me I would stay away from the big tracks for sprint cars JMO. Another 1/4 mile is what I would like to see, something that takes a driver, not just who has the money for the great motors.
|
Re: In search of Track
Yeah, Haubstadt is a negative for Chandler. With the class's I want to try and run I need to be in more of the central Indiana area. Maybe a weekly midget, lower dollar sprint, front wheel drive, bomber, modfied, etc. so as you can see, i want several class's.

Bunker hill is a flat track for motorcycles now I believe

I haven't been, I just heard on the radio that's its got something that no other AMA track has. I'd love for someone to make it into a midget track..it's only 10-15 mins away from me

that's exactly what salem needs a real promoter. not to talk bad but car count says it all. plus fri night gate times so early don't help. fri night not bad but some people don't get off before 5:30 |
Why not try something with twin cities or brownstown rumors always abound about those two places.

Re: In search of Track
Know I have said it before, but it would be awesome to see Twin Cities run Sprints on Sunday for those of us who live down south and can't make the long drive to Kokomo on Sunday's.

Re: In search of Track
if you want to start small, try Columbus Fair Grounds
|
Re: In search of Track
Eatin Dirt, Do you think the car, and fan support would be there for a sunday nite sprint race at Vernon? I don't know , I am asking the question. Might be a city ordinance against it. All questions that I would love and try to work out.
---------- Post added at 04:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ---------- Paw, word has it that the Fords took it off the market for next season anywy. Actually I want to start something and make it work for all of us. ---------- Post added at 04:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:52 PM ---------- illinisprintfan, do you have or know of a way of get ahold of the owners of this track? Plus 10 minutes away, sounds like a potential employee. LOL |
If I not mistaken Mills has been running a mod a LPS the last few weeks.

Re: In search of Track
Is Owensburg to far gone to reopen? When I-69 is finished it will be 3 miles from a interchange.

Twin Cities needs a good owner and a little TLC. Back in the early 2000's the promoter spent a lot of time on prepping the track and the weekly sprint races were nice with pretty decent car counts and fans. Put some money in the fence and track/amenities and a person would do well I believe. |
Re: In search of Track
Might try podium one in Charlestown In. We ran karts there earlier this year. needs alot of work ie fences and such

Re: In search of Track
Union County Speedway, in Liberty Indiana. They normally run Friday nights, and a stock car track, but wold be a great alternative on a Sunday night for open wheel cars.
Track sucks, but has decent facilities, and just needs some TLC, and the only way it'll grow there, is if someone new completely comes in. |
North Vernon just had a race on Monday that was initially scheduled for Sunday. There is no city/county ordinance preventing racing on Sunday that I am aware of. I would like to think that there would be Sunday night support. There are several teams in the southern region of the state that do not race at Kokomo due to getting home late, and having to work on Monday. Not to mention the economics of making a 2-4 hour trip one way. Twin Cities has provided some very epic battles throughout the years, and fans like to watch races there. However, improvements to the facilities need to be made, not only to provide a fan friendly environment, but more importantly a safe wall, catch fence, amd racing surface. I would love to see someone take this track, bring it to its full potential, and have weekly sprint car races. Possibly one day with the right circumstances, TCRP could once again host a sprint week race.

Re: In search of Track
Was getting ready to repost until I read MEAT's post, not sure I could add anything to that. There have been some great sprint races there. Sprint Week was good when there. Also can remember many years ago when the WoO ran at Bloomington that they had a non-sanctioned race at TC the night before and it was awesome. Never hurts to hope....

Re: In search of Track
Only thing that would make it possible would be if and when it comes open. if so, I'm a big thinker!
