Re: Terre Haute???
Currently under red - sun is blinding drivers going down the back stretch, so they're waiting for the sun to set... will be back on the air in about 15-20 minutes - try

Re: Terre Haute???
the drivers say they can not see...so officials are keeping the red out untill the sun sets......so it might be a while before they go back green

Re: Terre Haute???
Hope Mills got this one on tape. Sounds like it was a great race!
|
Re: Terre Haute???
Mills was there, I was too. I recorded the last few laps because the sun going down made my still camera worthless. But I did take 300 some photos!

Re: Terre Haute???
Great races at THAT. Outstanding promotion and the fans seemed to appreciate the pits and activity on the infield pits. The feature was exciting along with the preliminary races. Chase Stockon won the B Main from 13th starting spot rim riding. He also started 20th in the A Main and finished 9th. Good job of driving. Dusty Wright destroyed his car in the five car pileup in the feature with all cars getting upside down. Track was in good shape and the dust was not a problem, but the sun was. THAT is back!

Re: Terre Haute???
All I can say is that you guys in Indiana don't know how good you have got it. On a Sunday night in May there are two top notch shows going on for you to chose from. If not for gas prices I would have been at THAT tonight. Kokomo would have been just as good of a choice, although. It is interesting how the drivers are split between the shows. I hope both races were well attended and I am going to try to make it to THAT on the 22nd. I got to watch the Cards beat the Cubs on TV tonight, so there is some consolation.

Re: Terre Haute???
Millsvideo and I were there doing the video for the show. It was hard to see the first 10 laps or so, but the last laps after dark were well worth eating dust for.
Also want to thank Mike King for letting me take care of his sponsors for him. Definately worth the trip to Terre Haute. Mike said it best during his interview "The ACTION TRACK IS BACK!" |
Re: Terre Haute???
For me going back to Terre Haute today was like going back in time. I was just a liitle kid the last time the cars pitted in the infield and seeing it today brought back so MANY wonderful memories. I was pitside today and seeing all the little fans see the drivers and cars was like looking in a mirror in a way.

Re: Terre Haute???
yes, the Action Track is back and as racey as ever. if the promoters got a black eye from anything it was the dust problem, which never would have happened if mother nature would have let us race friday night, as was scheduled. but as everyone else has stated, the last 5 laps were worth the price of admission, with "the Rocket" doing slide jobs on Ballou every lap in turn 2 and Ballou powering back past him down the back stretch. 2 things to note for the evening, Ballou's very flat left rear in victory lane and the "spectacular" trophy given to Robert Ballou in victory lane, inside a glass display box was a very life-like figure of Don Smith holding up a huge check. kudos to DHK Promotions for saving THAT and for honoring a huge fan of racing, Don Smith. dust washes off...memories last forever! bob:checkered:

Re: Terre Haute???
Great to see some racing at the action track and all I can say is it looks like the madman was on a mission today doing whatever it took to get to the front. As for the feature race between the madman and the rocket I applaud both drivers for racing each other the way they did good hard and clean both deserved a winner's paycheck after that show they put on.Final thought is the action track is back and I have been waiting almost a year to get back here glad to see it is in good hands now and lets enjoy the 2008 season there.

Re: Terre Haute???
The last five laps were certainly worth the dust. Welcome back THAT!

Re: Terre Haute???
You can always tell when you've just witnessed a great one. Some folks are running for the exits on the white flag lap or right when they throw the checkered, but not as many as usual. Most are just kind of standing around, in stunned silence, looking at one another, with that "Wow!" look on their faces. I've seen it dozens of times at Haubstadt. I've seen it several times at Kokomo. I saw it in October 2006 after the Clayton-Stanbrough THAT war. And I saw Robert Ballou and Jesse Hockett cause it to happen again last night. The first part of that race saw conditions that were challenging, but everything from the delay after the red flag, was Instant Classic material.

Re: Terre Haute???
Very good show for the first race by DHK promotions. We can only expect better things in the future.Great to visit with alot of people @THAT, family, friends that are the same as, IOW ER'S, SHORTBUS, WALLS RACING & Zak, RonMil, Jerry Shaw and one gentleman in the infield that introduced himself, damn I can't remember his name:headbang, used to post here but got beat up pretty bad for being a modified fan.
This brought back alot of memories from years gone by, more than I need to remember.I know from talking to some of the drivers/teams/owners some were not crazy about pitting in the infield, but all in all it was awesome from my point of view. Can't wait till the USAC show in a couple of weeks:thumb |
Re: Terre Haute???
I met kyle (talk2drivers.com) while walking in the pits before the race. I wish I could have met some more of you before the race, but I went to put all my stuff down in the turn so I didn't have to carry it.

Re: Terre Haute???
For a look at the trophy, take a peak at my story on openwheelracers.com. Also, a shot of Ballou in action during the heat race.
