silver crown schedule?
Was there ever a full silver crown schedule. I really love the cars and always have since I was a kid. I really think somebody needs to put together a all dirt, more than a five race schedule for silver crown cars. What are your guys opinions on this idea?

Re: silver crown schedule?
Good idea. I would like to see Terre Haute back on the schedule first.
|
Terre Haute definitely no! Go back to running the Hulman 100 in May and the Hoosier 100 in August or September like it used to be. Bring back Syracuse. Run a show earlier in the year at Eldora before the 4crown.

Re: silver crown schedule?
I would like to see them at Toyota Speedway, Irwindale, CA Turkey Night, November 24th. Having all 3 division: the Midget, Silver Crown and Sprint Cars would be a great show (they all should be USAC races too). All divisions run 50 laps and dont count yellow laps. I think this would be the best show of the year! What better way to enjoy the Thanksgiving evening at the race track with all 3 divisions.

Re: silver crown schedule?
The tracks have to want them. The Silver Crown has high purses, and rightfully so, they should be the top of the ladder of the open wheel cars. I like them on the half miles, and there are some out there that could host them. Belleville and Des Moines come to mind. I'd like to see them at Syracuse and Sacremento again. There are also some 5/8 tracks out east if they could generate some interest. I, too, would like to see a healthier schedule, both dirt and pavement.

Re: silver crown schedule?
Run a Crown show at Lawrenceburg.

Re: silver crown schedule?
Hartford would be a great addition to the dirt schedule... It's a monsterous half mile about 30 minutes from the Indiana state line.

Something or somebody needs to get silver crown cars back on the map. I'd rather see a dirt only schedule but if pavement means more racing than I'm for it.

Re: silver crown schedule?
F5 Racer, welcome to the board. You have expressed your desire for the Silver Crown division to become an all dirt series. I have a question for you what do you think the Silver Crown car owners that own only pavement cars should do with those cars if USAC were to make the Sliver Crown division a dirt only series? Correct me if I am wrong guys, don't most of the Sliver Crown teams run different cars on dirt than they do on pavement? So the pavement cars should be parked with no where to sell them and the owners are just out all the money they have invested in them; is that what you are suggesting F5 Racer?
I fall into the group that feels the Sliver Crown schedule needs to be enhanced with more races on dirt as well as pavement. I have been hoping for the past several years that USAC would bring the Sliver Crown division back to the Syracue Mile (dirt), Oswego Speedway (pavement), Richmond (pavement), Phoenix International (pavement) and while I haven't made it to the new dirt track in Phoenix yet hopes are high all three USAC divisions will be running there in the future. I would just like to see it more on dirt. I don't care as long as these cars just plain get more races. Maybe split the series? I would like to get into racing silver crown one day but I know I won't be able to afford two cars. Like I said before as long as the series gets the respect and effort put into it that they deserve I would be happy. I think these cars are just so cool. I will making it to my silver crown race at duqoin in a couple weeks. I hope that I love them even more seing them in person.

Re: silver crown schedule?
I am from New Jersey. There are a couple of tracks in PA and NJ that would work great with Silver Crown Cars. One would be Bridgeport Speedway in South Jersey. A 5/8 mile with sweeping turns. Another would be Selinsgrove Speedway.
|
I think they ran at Williams Grove many years ago? Id love to see them do an all dirt series Champ, after all they are called Championship Dirt Cars! Do a separate pavement series and Champ like the Sprint Cars did this season.

Re: silver crown schedule?
I'm all for running on dirt and pavement, running tracks like Richmond, Pheonix, IRP, Iowa are a great way to expose NAPCAR fans to a great form of racing... What about Bristol? Tell me that wouldn't be spectacular...

Re: silver crown schedule?
Quick reply? not sure i can make this quick. a few years back i got the chance to help on a silver crown team and really enjoyed the chance. i got to travel to alot of tracks that i had never seen only heard about. this went on for a bunch of years and in my eyes the car counts were strong and there were plenty of drivers around. And the some IDIOTS came up with the gold crown series that was the end of the silvercrown division. it has never returned to it`s rightful spot at the top of USAC racing.....whats the answer? can it be fixed? i dont know but it will take a small miracle.

Re: silver crown schedule?
The best thing you can do right now is buy a ticket and go to the races on the schedule! Then hope for the economy to improve. You're going to like your first trip to DuQuoin. I recommend watching the first sets of hot laps from the bleachers in turn one close to the track.

Re: silver crown schedule?
I like this topic. I have wished for the return of the hoosier 100 in september for ever. I never got a chance to go to it. But i am still hoping. The racing around the state is not what i wish it could be after august I wish usac to add two dirt races and a few pavement races. If you like the silver crown division you have to like both cars. They are so neat to watch. Race eldora more then at the 4 crown. Race at raceway park in june or july. This division was the premier division at one time for usac. I don`t know why they have hurt it but as long as they do not kill it. Maybe thing will change.

Re: silver crown schedule?
i would be happy if they ran 100 miles again, without a restroom break.

Re: silver crown schedule?
OK, I've seen them at Syracuse, Terre Haute, Springfield , Duquoin,(Where if your a Champ Dirt Car fan) you will be next Sunday, no excuses.IRP, Illiana,Eldora,Stafford Springs,Oswego, in the past 10 years. I like the balanced schedule. I also which they'd run more.
The Grove again, Syracuse if possible, The Burg, and Rolling wheels in NY. It would be a great joint to watch them run. As for Bristol forget it, they drew 14 cars to Salem years ago. USAC should be pushing this series with all they have. It s the only exclusive series they run. Nobody else has them, and they are the direct line to the start of auto racing in this country. But as stated earlier , somebody has gut to want to see them. I'd also like to thank Bob Sargeant for sticking his neck out in keeping the miles alive. There aren't that many left. |
Re: silver crown schedule?
I would hope to see Terre Haute in 2012. I was at the race this
year with less than stellar results. Run the show in the evening. I'll bring my buddies who prepare the track at Sun Prairie to the show. Springfield,Du Quoin & Eldora are usually the shows I attend. Best Regards, John |
Re: silver crown schedule?
Would love to see them back at Illiana. I also agree with Koolaid89 that a race at Hartford (MI) Motor Speedway would be awesome. The clay / dirt track at Hartford in insanely huge. More like a 5/8's mile then 1/2 mile.
Tracks I think should always be on the Silver Crown Schedule: Indiana State Fairgrounds Terre Haute Action Track Eldora Speedway Milwaukee Mile Richmond Int'l Raceway Syracuse Mile IRP / ORP / LORP Phoenix Int'l Raceway Springfield Mile DuQuoin Mile Tracks that would be a great addition to those above Illiana Motor Speedway Toyota Speedway ay Irwindale Toledo Speedway Hartford Motor Speedway Belleville High Banks Williams Grove Speedway Bridgeport Speedway Bristol Motor Speedway ALSO what about a race at the famed Martinsville Speedway; in Martinville, Virginia. Now that would be a cool race! |

Re: silver crown schedule?
That final at Toledo was a barn burner for the championship last year to come down to the last lap. This year they are having an arca show on Sunday with the Big Car final on Saturday afternoon I believe. The silver crown series is just getting strong again after usac tried to back burner the pavement cars. I'm not happy about the sprint car pavement series not being part of the national title this year. It would be nice to see more mile fairgrounds shows but not an all dirt series. Hartford would be a great place but i know the promoter probably won't take the chance on the purse. 2 shows a year at the Indy mile would be great. I always liked the September Hoosier 100.

Re: silver crown schedule?
Someone mentioned Stafford earlier. If they ever make it up to NE, I think a trip to Stafford and Thompson Speedways would go well. PRA ran at Stafford back in 2006. Thompson is a high-banked 5/8.

Re: silver crown schedule?
Correct me if i am wrong. Sometime ago they were going to race the pavement cars at nashville. They did a test and the cars were to quick for that track. Couldn`t the same thing be said about bristol? I just think that would not work. But i guess we can think about it happening.

I think Sterling Marlin has the leasing rights to the track. But it is in bad shape. It needs millions in work. And the neighbors whine about the noise and traffic. Marlin tried to get NASCAR back but they said no way. I recall USAC ran a 77 lap sprint race years ago or at least had it on the schedule. I can't recall what happened. On edit, I remember seeing Bobby Hamilton, Jr. has the lease now, not Marlin. |

Re: silver crown schedule?
USAC ran the "Music City 150" for sprint cars there on September 12, 2004. It consisted of two 77 lap races. Bobby East won the first race and Dave Steele won the second.

Re: silver crown schedule?
OK...does anyone remember that AWFUL thing that NASCAR convinced USAC to do with the Silver Crown series back in 2006? I DO!!! THAT'S what killed this series. I know a former Silver Crown car owner back here in New England, and if you ask him what killed it/gave us our current situation, it was NASCAR. "Real race cars don't have doors!"

Re: silver crown schedule?
I think Thompson Connecticut would be a great venue for these cars, as is Stafford. I wouldn't be there to see it , but I'm sure a lot of my friends would love it. You can only see so many Nascar mod races before you need a change of pace.

Re: silver crown schedule?
If anybody is hoping for a return to the Milwaukee Mile next season, it doesn't look good.
