Raceway park tonight
Does anyone have any idea of who we can expect at Raceway Park tonight? I was suprised to see there wasn't already a thread on this event. I hope this isnt a sign of what is to come tonight as there doesnt seem to be much interest in this event on here. Last sprint car race in May there was one of the best races I've saw all year anywhere.

Re: Raceway park tonight
Eric Gordon will be there and I saw tires for Jojo Helberg while I was at Hoosier yesterday, so I assume that he will be there as well. I believe that Bobby East tweeted that he will be there. The schedule for the day doesnt show anything other than sprint cars. Stand alone event?

No Larson or Kunz t swanson qt santos 2nd. You could shoot a machine gun in the stands and not hit anyone.

Re: Raceway park tonight
I got off work too late to go. I have probably heard 15 ads on the radio this week. Kind of feel guilty not being able to go.

Re: Raceway park tonight
We've been talking about Dwight today, here on IOW. Dwight was Bobby's biggest fan, here on this board. I'm sure he was looking down at IRP and had to like what he saw, tonight.

Re: Raceway park tonight
Kind of reminded me of the old IRP tonight. Difficult to pass as the cars were pretty equal. Good quality of cars even though the quantity was not strong. The top was the fast way around this evening and if you ventured to the bottom to attempt a pass, you most likely ended up going backwards.
I hope this wasn't the last show but I would certainly understand if it was. I would doubt there were more than 500-600 fans in the stands. USAC just isn't a promoter. They have been a sanctioning body only for so long that they just don't think along these lines. I was hoping when the new regime took over that that would change. Just hasn't happened.:19: |
Seemed like above average racing from my vantage point. Stout cars. What say you guys?

Re: Raceway park tonight
as noted before, great racing, great names, one of the best facilities in the country...and no one in the seats. HARF members got a $5. discount and there were coupons printed from Hendricks County for a $5. discount, so you could have got in for only $10., and yet very few people took advantage of this to see some great racing. There is no question as to why this might be the last show there just due to money lost. Granted Thursday night is a tough sell with work schedules and all, but there is no reason the stands shouldn't have been full. Raceway Park is a natural racetrack for TV coverage with great lighting and camera locations already in place, and i think until we get TV coverage again, like the old TNT series, it will not get national coverage and car counts and spectators will remain in small numbers. In the old days when it was on TV we had drivers, teams, and spectators coming from all over the country to be a part of the show. I love racing and will go to all the shows they put on at Raceway Park, there's just something about being so close to the action and being able to enjoy a first class facility, jmho, bob:22:

i had to work at 12:30am and I was still there.

Re: Raceway park tonight
I unfortunately live 4 1/2 hours away or I would be there! I would support the pavement races at IRP.
