IndyCar at New Hampshire

Restarting a race on a moist track with predictable results. The big one.

I give him credit for appearing on television. But, I don't think he did himself any good with all his critics by saying his track stewards told race control the track was ok and he didn't hear anything from the teams or drivers to the contrary. All those interviewed seemed rather vocal about it and if what Robin Miller had to say on Wind Tunnel last night was any way near true, it makes one wonder.

I don't know how much longer this guy can hang on.

Sounds like just another IRL (IZOD IndyCar or whatever) cluster you-know-what :26: :7:

Did not look very professional at all, plus it was the first time back at that track for a while. Not alot of happy fans with a finish like that.

For me it was much more exciting than watching those street courses. Bone head call to go green but they saved a little by giving the crashed drivers their positions back on the finish. Will's actions are not what Roger will like out of his driver. Poor conduct by Power.

You think Roger might mention something about that to him?:17: Most sponsors kind of frown upon that as well.

What Power did is a double edged sword. It will ratchet up interest, to a certain extent, in the series, but the sponsors may not be thrilled.

There are some things Barnhart said that don't add up, that's for sure. All he had to do was glance at the TV feed for 10 seconds and he would have seen Mike Andretti pleading officials not to go green.

Miller sometimes overplays the cards that are dealt but if the drivers don't trust Barnhart and the owners are disenchanted with him as well then his days are numbered. If Barnhart is telling the truth then someone besides him needs to take some heat for not relaying the message from the pit area as to what the teams were saying. This whole deal doesn't pass the smell test in my book.

Maybe the IRL and USAC are affiliated.:32:

I'm sick and tired of this wimpy crap. Will giving race controle the Double Bird.... HELL YA! Why did nascar used to be so popular.... guys showed emotion. Verizon is not going to complain, most of there customer base is young and would have done something similar. Now if we could just get power to give Dario a black eye, he would become my favorite.:31: Deffinatly time for a new race control.

Several of us here have decided it's not worth the money to attend the Las Vegas race. I thought Jimmie Johnson was a cry baby until I heard Franchitti over the last few races. :24:

Mike,

John Oreovicz quoted Roger Penske as saying he didn't care what Will Power said or did, and, that he would pay any fine that might be levied.

They only had 30K spectators show up for the race. The track was hopping for 35K. The last time they raced there, they only drew 7K spectators :29: I know it won't happen because of safety issues but I would almost bet that if they had ISMA race before them as a support class they would have a lot more in the stands. But most would leave after the supers. The Indy Cars have never generated much interest in this area. Also because of the camera angles you had to look hard to see anyone in the stands on TV :deadhorse:

I think they probably get the same amount of spectators when NASCRAP have their Mods/East Series events there. :31:

The NASCAR Mods did race there this past weekend on Saturday and reports are that they only drew about 5,000 in the stands.

CTtoPA 8/16/11 6:57 PM

I was there and can tell you there were definitely more people there on Sunday. The rumblings around the track were that they had more spectators than they had anticipated. I wish they would do modifieds/ISMA/IndyCar. That would be a great weekend!

I blame this all on the girl who couldn't keep her car straight on the restart :-)

I really belive this is just a prelude to next year when they go to the turbos. They will not need the rain to duplicate this NH race. There will be more excuses used that I spun when the Turbo kicked in. Terrible decision to use the turbos. Frankly all the new rules for the car and engine is going to really hurt this series. Really a joke. They have problems now in all aspects, wait till next year.

For years now, the only people who really got attention for IRL (or Izod IndyCar or @#%&*) were Danica Partick and Dario Franchitti's wife.
We can now thank Will Power for giving champ car racing back to the guys, where is has always really belonged ;)

Along with the turbos next year will be more blown engines. I like the new cars but not the rear bumper that all but covers the rear wheels. more road course and less ovals again. cart has won the long battle as they got inside the George family. cart3 good luck.

CTtoPA 8/18/11 10:37 AM

They're trying to cater to the corporate "fan" rather than the true racing fan. The "IZOD" wearing crowd thinks ovals are just about making left turns all day and that it takes no skill. A lot of the people at these races are there because it's an "event".

In Robin Millers column, someone said that the track was beyond the ability of most of the field. Great! Think Langhorne! I don't want to see drivers die, but I sure want the track to separate the talented from the rich and famous. Bring on turbos too, the pretenders will spin, the great will win, quit coddling mediocre drivers. I don't give a darn about side by side racing if the cars are slow. (I'm a winged fan,BTW).
