I know there are quite a few mods - they ran 5 heats. Wasn't following them, but I did check the 2 B lineups & his name wasn't there.
Just posted the Mod Feature - Derek Groomer will start 4th.

Second that Robin. Sorry about Andrew. Still amazes me you are able to do this while your Son is racing. Congrats to Brady, Chad and KT, Jr. on the Podium.

Robin Elson 8/13/11 10:29 PM

Thanks, guys. He & Memmer had a good battle for the lead & Andrew just went into 3 a little too hard. Wasn't easy to finish posting.

Re: Burg Updates 8/13

Congrats to Brady Short. He really has this place figured out.

The first 16 laps of that race just took my breath away especially when John Memmer and Brady Short sliced through lapped traffic. I just wish the motor issues on the #98 would have held off. I would have loved to see how this played out.

For a while I though Kevin Thomas jr. was going to join them. He had a great run from far back in the field. He and Jason Soudrette were definitely the hard chargers tonight.

This was my first look at C. J. Leary. He didn't disappoint, running a strong second in his heat and running among the leaders until he had to stop on the track because of a motor problem.

Congrats to Chad Boesflug on a fine second place run in the Simon #24.

Sorry about Andrew Elson getting upside down. He bicycled and for a moment I thought he was going to save it but to no avail. The car didn't look too bad but I was half a world away. Hopfully we will see him back a time or two before the year is out but if we don't we understand education comes first.

The track was the very best I've seen it this year.

Re: Burg Updates 8/13

Updates by Robin, Excellent as always.

Track was very tacky all night with about a 20ft cushion to the wall. Of which I seen Logan Hupp do something I don't see many drivers do anymore. Go up and pack it before the feature. It got him a possition or two on the first lap :8: before the cushion returned to its rooster tail status.

Track was narrow all through heats. Not real wide for feature either but had two distinct grooves of which the leaders were just flatfooting and not much room for the lappers to get out of the way. Created some interesting situations simular to Fri Nights USAC Webcast.

Andrew Elson and Memmer teed up to do battle. Coming into three on lap one he biked, Not just biked but I thought the car was going to snap roll. Gotta give tremendous credit to him as What he did saved a major crash and turned it into a spinnaroni/easy roll over. I also credit the track for being wide as the whole field missed him :8: I have no doubt in my mind that Andrew backing out and steering into his bike kept it from going awol.

Memmer and Short were doing battle and Short was always right there but Memmer kept him off for 16 laps till his motor went poof. CJ Leary who also looked good tonight also went poof.

Kevin Thomas Jr. Looked very good, For awhile I thought he was the fastest on the track in the feature. Also suprising was Travis Berryhill. Im not sure he's ever been here NW but he looked strong.

Westerfeld, Gotta say its no longer a surprise to see him run well. Hupp ran good and Soudrette was wheelie man tonight. I think he finished sixth or seventh but started deep..

JT. Stapp looked pretty good in the heat. Kevin Studley is getting the hang of it :) Glad to see em run.
See you next week for the Dick Gaines Classic.

Mod Feature was won by Groomer.

Street stocks by Litchfield.

Another good night. Track never took rubber and in fact had two rooster tail grooves all through the features:8:
Drizzle started as I exited the main gate. Priceless and second time this year that happened.

treecitytornado 8/14/11 2:28 AM

Track was awesome when it came in good in the A-Main. Glad to get a solid Top 10 with a solid iron block motor. Hope it stays nice and heavy the rest of the season! Dave thanks for coming over after the races and expressing your thanks for us being there. That meant alot!

So why are you guys bragging about the track there was no passing at all in sprint cars didn't watch mods but I know for a fact in the sprint heats not one person passéd over on car no matter how fast they were.. The feature kindof same deal you have to wait for a yellow to pass someone going into turn one

KT, Jr. and Jason Soudrette may disagree with this analysis concerning the A-Main. I certainly do agree with regard to the heat races; a good pill draw was vitally important last night.
Glad Andrew Elson was unscathed in his mishap.

treecitytornado 8/14/11 12:50 PM

Track was Awesome by feature time, only a little narrow in the heats. It came in good in the A-Main! Maybe a little less passing, but u don't have to guess on a set up as much, you can run the car hammer down, which is alot of fun!, and the fans don't get dust and dirt all over them! You couldn't ask for more!

Big thanks to Dave for finding the keys to the water truck because those were some seriously fun laps. Feeling a 410 motor bog down and lifting the front tires off the ground on a big track overcomes all the pain in the ass that is owning a sprint car. Next week i'm sure we'll have a track for the fans, but last night was one for the drivers! The smile was welded on my face all the way back to indy late last night.

Have to disagree with Logan on the Sprint FEATURE. That feature was awesome. KT jr was flying on the bottom and the race between Brady and Memmer was great. I wish Memmer wouldn't have had motor problems because that was shaping up to be the best finish of the year! I do agree that there wasn't much passing in the heats but I will take poor heats and great features anytime.

Charles Nungester 8/14/11 2:23 PM

Re: Burg Updates 8/13

I kinda agree with Logan on this one. Yeah there was passing in the feature but cars hammer down was no different than a winged heat with no passing. I love it wider with two grooves.

I don't know how it would have played out if Andrew and Memmer had kept in the race. IMHO it was probably going to be a three or four car battle with traffic being the winner maker.

That being said, It wasn't a bad track by any means. Not a tint of dust. I bet the tires came off with no blisters or wear and no rubber on the track. Seriously. Other than Short I doubt any team out there had all top equiptment. Yet about ten of them ran really really well on a heavy heavy 3/8ths. I know a couple teams don't even have much in the way of spares and they were top five and do it against the big boys as well.

Logan, Much improved this year and I've seen you at other tracks :8:

Let me say thanks for everybody's concern from my flip last night. It means a lot to me. But I would like to thank the unsung heros; the safety crew. Its a comforting sight to see when you have just stopped flipping and there's a giant truck not 10 feet away with guys pouring out of it as fast as they can with genuine concern. Bar none, the Lawrenceburg Safety crew is the best around. Thanks again for being there so quick.

Another thanks to Dave for working that track all night. He had a great track prepped and ready to go when the clouds decided to turn 180 and cover the track. To make it that racey through the course of the night deserves applause and praise. You keep getting better at it Rudi, and I can't wait to come back.

In the pits we weree parked next to the 36 camp. Congrats to those guys. Idk what you guys have figured out, but I want some.
But we were also parked next to the Leary #30. They were a nice group of people and CJ is a great kid. I don't know if any of you see this, but I really hope to see all of you back at the Burg more regularly.

:11:

Yeah as in 60 foot of room in the corners and 45 in the straights to fan out and miss a flipping Andrew.

Not the racing groove. :15:

Michael Fischesser looked awesome out there. He was riding that cushion really well. I think sending him back a row in the heat for jumping was a really crappy call!!
