USAC's Hot August Nights tour
Aug 05 2011
Lincoln, NE Aug 07 2011 Knoxville, IA Aug 09 2011 Oskaloose, IA Aug 12 and 13 2011 Dodge City, KS Aug 14 2011 Grain Valley, MO Valley Speedway Grain Valley is a 1/3 mile track on the eastern edge of Kansas City on I-70. The promoter is trying to reestablish weekly non wing sprint car racing in this area. He is in the second year of running non wing sprints weekly and even with marginal crowds and fields he has not given up. The show also has 600 micros and some weeks 1200', One week a month those run topless as well. I hoping as many teams as fans heading back from the Dodge City shows will not pass up Valley and help keep non wing racing in this part of the country alive. We have been waiting for years for USAC to return to Missouri. This may be a make or break show for non wing sprints in this area. I hope any teams or fans traveling through this part of the country will give Valley Speedway a try. http://valleyspeedway.com/default.aspx |
Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
The real shame is that they couldn't have somehow worked a two-day Lakeside show into the same weekend that the Ron Shuman Classic was ran. Of all the races I've went to in the last couple of years that event, at that track was one of the most successful ones anywhere. Lakeside Speedway is a beautiful facility and a racy track.

I agree, Jerry. I always looked forward to the TnT show at Lakeside. Always superb track prep and large crowds. It was one of the rare occasions that we in this part of the country were treated to non-wing sprints.

Only thing you could race there are boats right now. Check out the photos on their website. Lakesidespeedway.net. Cant believe the flooding in this area.

Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
The weather in KC is crazy this summer. Lakeside is completely flooded. The river is over its banks almost everywhere you look, but we have not had any decent rain in months. It is hard to understand how my favorite racetrack is flooded and the season is lost, but 75% of the lawns in the neighborhoods are dead because of a lack of water. Does not make sense.
Looking forward to the race at Valley. Bought my ticket last Friday night. |

Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
We were advised during sprint week that this had happened over there and to check which way you travel over there especially into nebraska by people from this area. The reason for the flooding and especially at Lakeside was they opened up some flood gates up north causing this problem kinda like the same thing done in southern IL earlier this summer. So it looks like there will no winner of the little red car trophy they award at Lakeside in 2011 hopefully it will be back in 2012 under some sanctioning body ???????

Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
Posts from the promotor of Valley Speedway. Anyone planning on running that live within 100 miles of Kansas City should contact him.
OK we put up some extra money for the SMP event and our local guys did great. I will do the same thing for the local open wheel guys that commit by August 10th. I will put up an additional $500 for the winner, $100 for 2nd - 10th and additional $50 11th - 22nd. I realize this is a taller order than the SMP event but we have some fast guns within 100 miles of Valley Speedway. You have to get a temporary USAC permit that will be free and it is $40 entry fee. So here is a chance for the locals to get on the track with world class Sprint teams. We will be adding other incentives for our local talent as we get closer. Send your information to dennisshrout@valleyspeedway.com to qualify for extra money and prizes. Remember I consider local drivers within close to 100 miles of the KC area. Dennis Shrout also if you run a 360 I talked to USAC today and in addition to what I am putting up for the local drivers making the show, they are going to pay the top finishing 360 an extra $500. That means that if a local 360 driver that has notified me finishes 10th they will get $1,325. This should get some of the 360 guys excited. USAC is extending the same offer to the 360 cars that race at Eagle Raceway, Dodge City, and Valley Speedway. The extra $500 for the top finishing 360 will be paid by USAC no matter where you are from at all three tracks. The 360 guys at Valley have done great this year (running with the 410's), here is a chance to pick up a little extra money. Dennis Shrout ---------- Post added at 08:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:56 PM ---------- another post from the promoter. I just recieved another email from USAC and they clairified that they would pay the top non 410 Sprint the extra $500 at each of the three tracks. So that means you can bring out you 305 if you would like and have a shot at the extra money. The 305s have won half of our races this year so you guys have got a shot at the extra $500. Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
I sure wish I could get a week off work and follow this tour to every track.....but that isn't going to happen.....but even with having to make a 7 hour round trip there is no way I am going to miss the show at Grain Valley.....that is one ELBOWS UP little joint and if they get some moisture in it the USAC guys combined with some locals who are gettin comfy without the wing will put on the show of the year on that track....
ANybody who lives within 250 miles of Kansas City should for sure come watch this race....they operate under a curfew so you won't be stuck there too awful late on a sunday night and the show will without a doubt be worth the trip. |
Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
Local excitement about this race is at a fever pitch. 12 Local drivers have signed up to see how they rank against the USAC stars. The racinboys site is all lit up with anticipation.
I hope all the teams help support us to rebuild traditional sprint car racing in the Kansas City area. And I hope the fans heading home stop to see some good racing and to show the promoter his efforts and putting up the bonuses are appreciated. Maybe this tour is just the start of the return of the Non Wing World Championships. We can only hope the promoters see something to make them start thinking along those lines |
Re: USAC's Hot August Nights tour
Final count for the local drivers signing up for the challenge is 18. Even though some are a little short on horsepower disadvantage they are looking forward to the challenge.
It will be interesting to see who is the top 360 and top 305. Any one know what Indiana and west coast drivers plan to be there? |
