USAC vs Belleville

I recently saw on another website that Clauson got the ok from his sponsors to go to Belleville instead of compete in the USAC sprint car race at Eagle on Friday night. In that thread there was a question about USAC's rules in regards to competing against a USAC event. It was something along the lines of no USAC driver can race in a non-USAC event within a 24 hour period of a USAC event, as well as an event that is within 200 miles of a USAC show. Does anyone know the rule on this? And how is Clauson and a handful of other drivers getting away with competing at the Belleville Midget Nationals when it is competing agains a USAC sprint race? Just out of curiosity! Personally I'm glad to see them going to Belleville!

The rule is series specific in other words if Belleville was a Sprint car race or Lincoln was a midget race we "BC" would be at the USAC event. Bryan Clauson Racing will be supporting the Lincoln event as well .. Look for an announcement in the next day or so ......

It only gets more interesting. Very interested in seeing how BC is going to be supporting both shows. Looking forwards to the announcement.

My son is station for the Navy at Stratcom (Offit Air Force Base) south of Omaha. He was looking for a taste of home by seeing the USAC Sprints about 30 minutes away at Eagle Raceway. If the 2 races are going head to head I wonder what the car count will be at Eagle. I have a feeling this is gonna suck for him.

How many cars should I expect at Eagle?

That's a tough question, because they don't usually run non-wing sprints at Eagle. So it's kind of tough to gauge how much local and regional support the series will get, when it comes to this track. At the very least you're going to have a smaller car count that's loaded with quite a few of the country's best. Levi Jones, Chris Windom, Jon Stanbrough, Robert Ballou, Hunter Schuerenberg, Damion Gardner, Blake Fitzpatrick, Daron Clayton, Coleman Gulick, Wes McIntrye and other drivers like that. Also, with this race followed up with Knoxville, Oskaloosa, Dodge City (x2) and Grain Valley you never know who might tow out to take advantage of there being a series of races. TNT usually had some surprises. They all pay $5000 to win, except Osky, which pays $15000.

Regardless, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in what the car count might be. I went to a race at Haubstadt last Saturday that had a car count of only 21. That turned out to be the best sprint race I've seen all year, so far.

Eagle is a high banked 1/3, and every race I've ever been to there has been full of excitement. That's why it's one of my favorite tracks. As far as car count goes, think quality, not quantity. As Jerry said, you'll see some of the best. You're not going to get cheated.

USAC Triple Crown Champion Jerry Coons jr. will be at Bellville! USAC Triple Crown Champion Dave Darland will be at Bellville! Last years USAC Driver Champion Bryan Clauson will be at Bellville! This years Driver Champion pts. leader will be? You guessed it, at Bellville!

While Belleville does pay more, I think it has at least as much to do with the fact that it is the most prestigious midget race in the country. IMO, this is one race that they ought to really try to make an effort to schedule around. If anything, for the driver's sake. They could start this Hot August Nights tour with Knoxville, Oskaloosa and then move on to Eagle, Dodge City and Grain Valley and give these guys a chance to make even more money. A lot more if they sanctioned a return of the Ron Shuman Classic @ Lakeside as part of next year's tour.

With that said, those fans at Eagle are going to still get to see a great show. Especially for fans that don't get to see a lot of non-winged action. That field will still be a strong one.

That's why I'll be there. Then it's a late trip back to Belleville.

I kinda agree with Jerry. A damn hard choice to make.....Midgets or Sprints...both high quality shows. :14:

What is the latest with the IRL road to Indy program? I thought/assumed that it was going to be a yearly award. It would seem that having the ability to get into an Indy Lights car would make people want to stay with USAC. Has anyone heard comments from BC about this?

It is looking like, I may have to eat some crow and admit that Belleville is going to have a strong car count. If the car count is as good as advertised, I will making the drive Saturday morning to watch the finals Saturday night.

The Road to Indy program counts only the top 25 finishes regardless of which USAC series so in effect you could miss races like Bobby East did during sprint week without it affecting your points in the Road to Indy program, it only affected his National sprint points.
