Decision time

Would you let what happened at THAT, with the silver crown race, affect your decision on attending THAT for sprint week? Does anyone know for certain who is prepping the track for Sprint week?

Re: Decision time

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless the O'Conners or Tommy is doing the track, I will be going elsewhere or just partying in the parkinglot at THAT during SprintWeek...

I am still planning on the ISW race.

Re: Decision time

I'll be there. I've been through (as a lot of others on this board have) every promoter the Action Track has had since the 60's. When that track is prepared right it still is one of the best in the country. I would hope USAC is on the phone as I write this doing whatever it takes to get the right people hired to prep the track.

Henry and I will be there. We have plane tickets, a car, and a room. All we can do is hope they get it fixed.

I wouldn' miss the last race at THAT for anything. After all the posting I'm sure it will be a memory soon.

I don't see anyone like the O Conner's saving the day after the fair board screwed them out of promoting the track.

I will still be there. We have Jack Kraemer Memorial money to give away that night.

THAT is one of my all time favorite tracks. That and Eldora. Both have gone down hill. Life goes on and, fortunately, there are other options. As for sprint week, I'll wait and see. I really hope USAC will respond in a positive way to this debacle. A good sprint week show would heal many wounds.

Re: Decision time

I am mixed on it, if they are going to do track prep like last time, and with the demo derby on the front stretch on Monday, I say give it to LPS this year. Spiker runs a good track and deserves a shot at an SW date. I am not saying give it to him every year, as THAT deserves to have one when it can be prepped right.

If they continue with ISW THAT date, I won't make it, as I have to work. I guess I will get to go to another race later on in the season (if it gets betteR).

wtvwrocks 7/4/11 11:29 AM

Total speculation on my part - but if I had to guess I would say one of two things will happen. USAC will try to race at THAT or they will take that night off altogether (or pray for a rain out). If they were going to move it to another track that would have to happen really quickly (like today). It's a lot of work on the tracks side to get a race together that's not already on the schedule. You have to make sure you have enough workers to man the ticket windows, concessions, security etc. Also would have to order all the additional concessions to have ready - not to mention that you as a track haven't been able to promote this race.....there's a lot of fans that don't know about this message board and without some kind of advance promotion no guarantee you will get the crowd you might have gotten with it on the books from the beginning. Not to mention that pesky sanction fee - midway through race season there's no guarantee that any other track will have the extra $ in their budgets to come up with it at the last minute. I would also imagine that USAC agreement with the fair board spells out a certain number of events unless they are unavoidable due to weather. Canceling a race for any other reason could be a breach of that contract.....my gut says they'll try to run THAT or won't run at all. And I'm sure the racers would rather try to race than not race at all.

Re: Decision time

usac moving the race somewhere else would mean they would have to admit failure i dont see that happening as the excuses started already.... my guess is if there is any chance of rain tues or wed they will be real quick to cancel

Re: Decision time

Don't get me wrong, I like Putnamville. Got nothing against them getting a sprint week date.

But at the expense of THAT?

HELL NO!

The most unique track we have in indiana bar none. Probably the track where the most guts gets the most possitions and the only track they three wheel the turns all night.

I don't want another disaster at THAT but even a mediocre race there is better than some tracks best.

I'll be going to the Action Track again to see USAC redeem themselves. Most who say they won't will probably get over it by that day and end up going. I hope they can get Bob Sargent to do track prep like last year.

Eric Thompson II 7/4/11 2:51 PM

I'm gonna try to be there. Hopefully shooting.

The sprint week race last year was done by sargent was nothing more than a glorified hot lap parade not even halfway up the track huggy pole race. The O'Conners did the track work the last two events and they know how to do it, not even close on comparing these two promoters.

Re: Decision time

Wrong...Last years ISW race was one of the last two races of the year, and Bob Sargent along with the O'Connors handled the race. The track was great as well. I know this because I was actually at the race and spoke with both parties. Also to clarify, the fair board at THAT did screw Sargent and the O'Connors after promising them a contract for 2011. It wasn't so much about the concessions, but the fact that decisions were being made that worked against the promoters ability to run the track successfully. Like a lot of things, there is ******** involved on the fair board as well as individuals in different roles that create possible "conflicts of interest". No decent promoter in his or her right mind would touch THAT under the current set of circumstances. I think USAC picked it up because they were trying to keep racing alive at Terre Haute. End result, maybe they shouldn't have. Nothing will change until the fair board is confronted and decisions are made in the best interests of racing at Terre Haute.

Re: Decision time

We'll probably go. I've seen several shows there some good some awful. I like the place and the atmosphere of it being during fair week. I really hope some of the parties concerned will come to there senses and make the right choices on the track. Some things simply cannot be replaced and I believe this is one.

I didn't give up on this great track during the Allison days, one of it's all-time low points. I'm sure as hell not going to bail on her now. Yesterday was a total disaster, but it was one race.

Hey Jerry. Got any idea who appoints the fair board? Maybe you or Shortbus would be good board members.

Jerry Shaw 7/4/11 9:22 PM

Re: Decision time

They're elected. Once a year (usually in Nov.) they're voted on by Fair Association members. I'm not exactly sure how the candidates are nominated, though. So you just go to the meeting, look at the list and pick people that you think are in it for the right reasons (i.e. reputable people you've heard of in the ag or business communities). The guy that had been president for a while (Dave Hartmann) I have known since I was a kid. The current one (Jennifer Cook) I don't know at all. Anybody can join and become a member, as long as they can prove they live in Vigo County and pay the membership fee.

Since I'm not able to make it, I don't really have a horse in this race, but if I did, I'd have to side with Jerry. Sunday was just one race. I have a feeling you'll see a different track at ISW.

If I wasn't going to be out of the area during sprint week, I would be there regardless of what happened Sunday. It's the action track.

I am seriously considering omiting the Terre Haute race. Sitting in 90 plus heat for almost seven hours and eating dirt and not seeing a race did not make me very happy.
