I saw on 6-21 that JACKSLASH posted a commercial spot for the race on July3. Gates open at 10:30 and racing around 12:30. It's a day race.

***? Why would they run a day race? There is a reason why they put lights up at dirt tracks! :15::7:

They must all want to go to Kokomo that night too!

We're gonna' be there for sure even though it is a day show. I just hope they have the track in shape for it.

USAC finally changed their website schedule for the Silver Crown division. It now lists Terre Haute as a day show and shows the North Wilkesboro show as being cancelled.

What is the reason that this was switched to a day race? Thanks.

Hell, i'm just happy they are racing there & not running the twin 50 format.
A couple of years ago I saw some very good day races at the "THAT" track.
Well alright...it was many years ago.
I wish they would still run the "real" Hut 100" there on a nice sunny, but cooler, Sept. day race and invite a guest such as Mario, A.J., Rutherford, Snider, Parnelli & the Unsers back there to help with attendance. Theyvcould do that for the Sumar 100 also.

I know I will try for Kokomo also but not $ure I can swing it.

When it as a night race I was planning to go. But, now with the time that I get out of church and a 2 hour drive that just won't happen. I really can't believe that they can get the track to hold up during the day.

I think they might have moved it to a day race to get away from the time that most towns will be having firework displays BUT I think they'll hurt themselves by doing so as far as drawing a crowd AND the fact the track hasn't been great for racing lately which keeps many of us from making a long trip there and if the track is bad again it'll just continue to keep us away....

I don't know which races you been to lately at THAT, but the last race I went to, the track was near perfect with the O'conners doing track prep.

Maybe they also moved it to a day race for Kokomo. Also, the racing hasn't been great lately? I was at the last sprint car race last year (or second to last). I haven't seen that great of track, racing at THAT ever (of course I only started once King took over).

I was lucky enough to be at the 2010 Hulman Classic at THAT, and although it was a night show, the racing was about as good as I would expect to see anywhere.

Re: Terre haute times ?

Jeez,I wonder how they raced there all those years before they even had lights at the track?

wildman92 6/26/11 10:16 PM

Just because it's a "day race" doesn't mean they still won't have to use the lights. If you've ever been to a race at THAT, you know what I'm talking about.

Looking forward to my first silver crown race!!!

Some of you people that post on here must not have a f*#n brain or don't know how to use it. Nothing makes you happy. If you
don't want to go to a day race at "The Action Track" for whatever petty reason then stay the HELL home. When true race fans
talk about the history and tradition and great races that they have seen at "The Action Track" over the years, most of these were
day races. Foyt, Opperman, Carter, Bettenhausen, Dickson, McElreath, etc. all made their mark at THAT running DAY races. Now,
let's go racing!!!!!!

Just wondering what the people who thought i was stupid for my comments on day racing at Terre HauteIi said BEFORE sunday have to say now? That was a stupid and dangerous decision to make it a day race. I love tradition as much as anyone but some should not be carried on! JMO

Bad track prep:7:
I've raced many times at day races and most of the tracks were watered and ripped to death as they knew the sun would have an affect on the track and they never had that much dust.
Like I Said in another post, they packed Terre Haute so tight it was sealed over and would've been a dust bowl even if it was ran at night.
So day versus night is irrelevant,it boils down to crappy track prep!:15:

Mother nature did all the track prep that was needed! It was a mud bog when I got there at 11:00am, there was plenty of moisture in the dirt. But they let it sit for 3+ hours under 85* and at least 10mph wind till there was dust on the surface. If they would have sent all 25 cars out to pack it down at the advertised 11:30am hot lap time all would have been ok or at the least better than it was. They could have ironed out the wet spots on the inside in between sessions, leave track prep to the professionals! USAC really gave themselves a black eye on this one, stick to what works! It was a blessing that no one was hurt and only racecars were damaged, we can replace those!

I completely agree with what you said, driving around the track with heavy tractors and water truck for ever just completely squash's all the water to the top then taking the blade to it to scrap what moisture was laying on top is just plain dumb.:14: But you can't say that because it was a day race that was what caused the problems,it was caused by someone's poor decisions.

Re: Terre haute times ?

Well I've never been to Indiana but the best track surface I've ever seen used to be at flemington in jersey. They used to calcium the crap out of it and when the sun went down the track would pretty much water itsself for the rest of the night. It would dust up some or sometimes alot, but I've never seen dust like that, more like a coating of semi cured concrete. I remember driving home as a kid and stopping at stewart rootbeer/food place at the way home and you'd know who was or wasnt at flemington just by seeing who looked like a raccoon due to the 1/2 lb. of track dirt everyone took home on their faces. Day races were never as good. I miss them nights, back when modifieds were just that and not flying wedge taxi cabs. You guys still have some great racing around, but I feel sorry for the youngsters around here who never seen a real modified race. I used to pit for a car that weighted just over 1350lbs and had close to 900 horsepower of Big Block fuel injected alcohol, that used to average just over 121 mph on a 5/8 mile. Couldnt even be done in todays times due to safety concerns, guys used to get themselfs killed, Toby Tobias, I remember the day he lost his life like it happened yesterday. It used to be considered part of racing. I would never suggest going back to those times, but you cant compare todays racing to then, not in these parts anyhow. Sorry I rambled on some, but you guys have no idea how lucky you are to be able to attend some real racing, day, night, dusty or tacky, lucky dogs you guys are.
p.s. a few years back nascars Ray Everham (sic?) was asked who the best ever driver he has ever seen. When he said Billy Pauch everybody was like who ? Billy Pauch the driver with the most wins ever at flemington, yep better then his own driver then, Jeff Gordon.
