Do's and don'ts?
I know they used to allow carry in drinks. Parking is free for races not during the fair normally. There is food trailers on the infield and on the midway. All this is based on previous years, it holds no 100% accuracy for this year (but I bet it will be close). I really wish USAC would do some promoting.....and give some details...... |

http://www.usacracing.com/trackslist...tml?div=silver It doesn't offer much information but their are numerous people on this board that could probably answer your questions. Try PM'ing either Jerry Shaw, Shortbus, Wallsracing or Terrehautian. They have all the answers when it comes to THAT. They even seem to know a little about a lot.:17::3: See what I mean. I don't even get a response typed out before two of them are here to the rescue. |
Re: Terre Haute
Tommy is not doing the prep work. Thats straight from the horses mouth. I believe Ol Bub is doing it

If you are from out of town, stay at The Super 8 on 1st street. It is real easy to get to the track from there and use the back gate, plus places to eat are near by and you can get to The Mall through the back roads, more places to eat.. |
Re: Terre Haute
dont sit in the turn one area of the grandstands:6: The open bleachers offer a better view.

Also, don't park too close to the track, someone last year parked real close to the track somehow, ended up with a sprint car crushing the car. |
I've got pics of the sprint on the car on my comp. That was the first time I've ever seen one leave the park

Re: Terre Haute
The owners of yadda yada car need to make other arrangements for leaving.

Re: Terre Haute
I like sitting in the infield, turn 3. You can stand, sit in a comfortable lawn chair, throw a football around, whatever. You can't see turn one very well there, but the trade off is that you can be so close to the track in the infield. It really makes you appreciate the speed. The biggest DO I can think of is... Have a good time!

Re: Terre Haute
The tunnel is great to use to go in the infield and watch some of the action. Bleachers are large and good seats, but I always preferred sitting under the covered grandstand. I sit right past the flagstand about half to three quarters from the top and I can see the whole track. Watching them barrel down the straightaways and coming toward you fighting to keep the car straight to me is breath taking. Add that to the noise that rattles off of that grandstand roof. (you may want to use ear pugs) Most crack the throttle right past the flagstand and if it is really tacky then several barely lift entering turn one. The last couple of years parking during the fair (sprint week) was free if you arrived before 4 p.m. The Vigo County fair website should have some info about this...it did the last couple of years. Just something very Nostalgic about The Action Track. One of the easiest tracks to get to as it is only a half mile off of Interstate 70. Plenty of restaurants (fast food to sit down),gas stations, and carry outs within a half mile of the place. No glass bottles allowed.
Tim Wolffrum aka Cowboy They have sold beer there before...but don't know about this year since USAC is the promoter now |
Re: Terre Haute
Another thing I liked about Terre Haute the past few years. After the race is over, and the winner (and maybe other cars) are on the front stretch, not only did the photographers stand on the front stretch, so did fans. It added something you don't see everywhere.
I sent USAC an email and hope that I get a response or they give out some details on here. |
Re: Terre Haute
Someone said a few days ago that the July 3rd Silver Crown race was going to be run during the day. Is that the straight skinny on this deal or what?

Re: Terre Haute
I find it truly amazing that this race is less than 2 weeks from now and there is virtually no information available concerning this show in regards to gate openings, what time hot laps and qualifying begins, etc. I wonder if even the competitors have been briefed on this information. Between stuff like this and the fact that Silver Crown races can be rained out and never rescheduled, among other things, would lead one to wonder how this great form of racing can survive or even if the powers that be even care if it does survive.

Re: Terre Haute
I just checked the USAC owners garage section on their website and there is no entry form there as yet. The entry forms always have the time schedule listed on them.

Re: Terre Haute
Does anyone have a clue as to why they are going to run this as a day show? I'm not necessarily knocking a day show but with Independence Day on the following Monday wouldn't a night show be more appealing and better attended since most everyone will not have to work Monday?

Re: Terre Haute
Maybe usac officials want to get home early for the holiday:3:

Re: Terre Haute
This is my favorite track and I'm sure you'll like it even as a day race. The covered grandstand is the best place to sit especially for a day race to get out of the sun. I suggest top row. Any ticket gets you in the infield and its really neat to atleast watch some hot laps inside of 1&2. Don't worry about finding the back gate your first time, just go in the main gate. I hope USAC has the track prep situation under control, since helfrich isn't doing it. If it's bubby jones it should be great. He was rumored to do it for mike king but never ended up doing it so we'll see. Someone just go out there, dig it up and water the shidt out of it and we'll have a great day. They also must water the cushion only, after tt's and the semi if there is a semi.
