Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
We were at Eldora for the WoO race a few weeks back and they were handing out questionaires on what type of car the fans would like to see race for a million....Non wing, wing or late models. Its been a while since they have had a race with money like this on the line... Any one know when this could happen or if it even will? just curious..

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
I would much rather see twenty races at fifty thousand each....Donnie Moran was the big Dog last go around. Fifty races at twenty G's would make me smile but if Tony does a Million you can bet it will be a three or four day mud taxi extravangza.

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
I personally would love to see a million dollar race with nonwings or late models. Nonwings would be really awesome but yet again late models would bring a lot more cars and put on a better show at Eldora. Nonwings are just better on shorter tracks.

Midgets!

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
Earl did a million dollar deal with the non-winged sprinters but it didn't pay a million to win. They called it the Mopar Million and I believe Russ Gamester led quite a few laps and Jack Haudenschild ended up winning it. I was in the grandstands for it but don't remember how the payout went down.
I do remember that the non-wingers putting on one hell of a show at Eldora for the Mopar Million deal. The mud taxis have done the million to win deal and I believe Stewart should race another genre of cars if he'd gonna' do a million to win. JMO. |
Modifieds:)

Non wing has been done yes. But no doors for me please. Tony has been running with the wing some. Think he would try to win his own money? Or maybe send Newman after it?

First paid $200K, 125 for 2nd and 100 for 3rd. It was the highest paying sprint car race ever. Haud won followed by Stevie Smith, Dickie, JJ, and Rob Chaney. Russ did lead the first lap(he started on the front row) but quikly fell. I would love to see another race like this go down. What a weekend that was. Whoooo Racing!!!!!!!!!

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
First place paid $200,000. The lap leaders were Dean Jacobs, Dickie Gains, and Haud. Nobody else led a lap as I remember (long time ago though). I checked the box score and it shows:
A-MAIN LAP LEADERS: Laps 1-19 Jacobs, Laps 20-28 Gaines, Laps 29-40 Haudenschild That was one of my favorite events of all time. Not the best race I've seen, but one of the best overall events for sure. I'd love to see another one. If they are going to do one based on a vote, late models will win with ease. Much bigger fan base than anything else that runs at E. So if they pass those out at each race, I'm sure that would win. |
Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
How about 50K to win an open non-wing sprint car race, 50k to win an open winged sprint car race, and 50k to win late model race, run in all three and you get a $1,000 bonus just for running, win two out of the three a 50k bonus, win all 3, a million dollar bonus. You telling me Kinser wouldn't pack himself in a late model for a chance at a million bucks? What about Scott Bloomquist in a sprint car, it'd be interesting to see that's for sure.
Tony's rich, he could do it. |

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
Sometimes i just want to bang peoples heads off walls on here.
THEY ARE RACE CARS...not Mud cabs, taxis, or whatnot. This place would explode of the word "tumblebunny" or "oversized go kart" or "pushemandflipems" were even mentioned. Just be happy auto racing is still around and there are different genres of cars. Modifieds would be the best choice if he wants car count, but not if he wants a packed house. Late Models would bring a car count AND a packed house, I was at the original million and it was like a sardine can I wasnt at the Mopar Million for the Sprints so I cant judge how the crowd was, but they got a pretty good car count as well. Its a toss up really, if its ran, people will come. |
Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
I was at the Mopar Million and it was a World 100 sized crowd. The million dollar mud cab race was some bigger, no doubt.
I can't find the video but Gamester was in the front for quite a few laps. He did fade after half way. |

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
Wing Sprints!
|
Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
...and unless it's wangs, don't count on Steve Kinser even if it's a Mil to win. He's got a points championship to win with the Woooooo...:15:

Re: Eldora... Another Million Dolla Race????
I was at Eldora for both "million races" and the non wing sprinters were by far the best show.
What we remember most about the late model million is that Jack Hewitt was leading the second heat race with just a handful of laps to go and the engine let go. Couldn't believe it. No one was within 8 to 10 car lengths of him when it came apart. If he had went on to win it he'd have started on the inside of the third row in the 100 lapper. |
