Re: Hot Wheels Truck Jump At Indy, 332 feet
Did you see the TV show "Fearless 500" after the 500 yesterday explaining and showing different things they do. WOW crazy.

We sat in turn 4 for carb day and were trying to figure that jump out.The second landing jump was much taller then the take off jump was..It looked like there was no way he was going to be able to stop after he landed..That took some really BIG ONS to do that leap!!:6:

Re: Hot Wheels Truck Jump At Indy, 332 feet
i thought it was pretty ignorant....from my seats it seemed that no body even cared...the folks on the PA were screeming about it and nobody that was sitting around didnt even seem to notice anything was going on.

Must have been the same crowd that was there for the Freedom 100 when they had that last caution and nobody seemed to mind watching the cars drive 5 or 6 laps under caution. Sure wouldnt have taken much to red flag it but why do it if nobody cares anyway!! |

The whole promotion reminds me of the "Super Dave" skits that Showtime used to air. The Hot Wheels Test Facilities? They must be next to Super Dave Osborne's Compound. All that was missing were the Genuine Saskatchewan Seal Skin Bindings.
I did a bit of research and found that the whole ad campaign is produced by a company called Mistress Creative and the videos produced by the Bandito Brothers. The stunts shown on the screens prior to the jump were Computer Generated Imagery. The whole thing was one big commercial. http://www.mistresscreative.com/ http://www.banditobrothers.com/press/34 The stunt? Yeah, not bad. Obviously rehearsed. And just what record did he beat? What was the old record? And why did they measure it when, oh, never mind. I just don't like seeing the Indy 500 pimped out like a step sister. |

I'm perfectly fine with the stunt. It happened long before the race started and just added to the pre-race festivities. The ramp did not block my view of the track in any way. The best part is that the stunt got many people to come to the track earlier. For as bad as the traffic was getting in this year, this thing actually helped ease the traffic issue quite a bit. I don't think I've ever seen that many people in the stands an hour and a half before the race. |
Re: Hot Wheels Truck Jump At Indy, 332 feet
You got it all wrong, Just plain all wrong.
How many kids, besides karters and TQers are going to want to go to Indy, sit in the sun for four hours and another two getting out? Im sure a few thousand kids wanted to go and see this (Not indy) It's not pimping out indy, Its helping Indy for the future. We've gone 40 years without real promotors doing everything they can to get every type of people they can to the race track. If Hot Wheels sells a few million Yellow Driver trucks and action figures, So be it. |

Not trying to bash anyone's views here. But, right now this video is on youtube's front page and listed under "most popular" with almost 1,200,000 views. We were in the NW vista and had a great view of the jump. Everyone around us seemed very into it even saying the count down. The biggest problem I found was people who sat down afterwards asked when they were going to make the jump. Other than that I don't see the problem. Anything they do to get people's butts in seats is a good thing imo.

Rather you liked it or not you have to admit the driver has some big gonads, who out there would have done it?

Re: Hot Wheels Truck Jump At Indy, 332 feet
It was good to have. I was not inside the track when the jump happened. We were all setting outside turn 3 having a good time when all of a sudden we herd the crowd. What the heck is the crowd cheering about? Then it dawned on us. I say it was a great thing that they did the jump. This was the first time I have ever been able to walk straight from the vehicle to my seat without having to stop anywhere. We always get bogged down about 30 yard from the gate. It was great. Keep doing it. By the way maybe the guy that used the "pimped out" phrase does not realize that is a good thing these days. Ask your grand kids about it. Pipmped out is more adding flashy things to something to improve it. IMS added a big flashy WORLD REDCORD JUMP to the pre race stuff. O ya that big flashy jump was over an hour before the race, and came a good 15 to 20 min. before most drivers even had there drivers suit on. I do not see how this jump did anything but help the Indy 500. It was done at a time it affected nothing. The set up did not block anyones view. It was pretty cool to look at. And all of the old timers that sat around me thought it was really cool that they tried to immulate one of there old Hotwheels tracks.
