Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
Woke up at 5:35 to the wonderful shaking of windows and lights. Knocked a cup off of the table next to me.
Peliminary reports are pointing to a 5.4 magnitude earthquake about 41 miles northwest of Evansville. |

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
It takes allot to wake me up, and this woke me up. I don't ever want to go through one again.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
We're over here real close to it in Olney. Took me a long time to figure out what was going on. My mom is St Louis and it was pretty strong there. Will have to find out if my girlfriend and her family in Iowa felt it. We felt a slight aftershock shortly after the quake by about 5 minutes or so.
|
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I'm in Marion, In, about 230 miles Northeast of the epicenter and it shook the building here. I pray that everyone is all right.
|
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
Columbus here and it woke me up. By the time I got my senses about me it was basically over. I thought I felt an aftershock too.... but I had taken sleep medication last night so i didn't know if I was still loopy from it.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
It got my attention here in Anderson. Felt both the tremor as well as th aftershock. Let's hope everyone is fine and maybe only slight property damage.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
Ironically, i've been reading a book about David Crockett and he was talking about "the shakes," which followed the New Madrid,Mo., Earthquake of about 1811 and 1812. The original quake was so strong the Mississippi River ran backwards for a while and rang chuch bells in Philadephia. Crockett settled in a region of western Tennessee that was radically reshaped by the eartquake and tremors, and happened to be great for hunting bears.
When I was a reporter at the Princeton, Ind., Daily Clarion 25 years ago, I did reports about a major event along the New Madrid fault lines being overdue. Jim Morrison |
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I received a text message from my daughter in Evansville, she says all is well there. As for Trent I am fairly sure he slept through it!

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake

|
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I was at work at the Sheriff's Dept. and it shook our building pretty violently. I feilded probably 75-100 911 calls immediately afterwards. I can tell you that no injuries or damage has been reported in Vermillion county.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
It woke me up here in Louisville, quite a way to start the day!
|
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I wonder if I felt the aftershock because I don't remember anything after the first shake (or I could just not felt the after shock and felt the first one). I am pretty sound sleeper and this woke me up.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
Felt it here in Brazil. Probably a reason to raise fuel prices.
|
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
WOW!!!!!!! My son said it woke him up when this happened.I must be a pretty sound sleeper I never felt a thing.
|
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
The first shake I felt was actually smaller then the second one. Each of them seemed to only last a second or so in Seymour. Definitely got my attention though while getting ready for work.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I thought my cat had gotten under the bed and finally gone bonkers!!! I did not like that one single bit!!! Luckily my 5 year old slept through it!!! My husband is headed to Gas City tonight so hopefully there won't be anymore shakin' going on!!!

I live about 15 miles from the epicenter....it's been a long time since we had one this big! Last one was in 02, but this one lasted much longer - approx 30-45 secs for me.....shook pics off the wall and they are reporting some sinkholes forming already in the E'ville area. We had at least two more aftershocks that I could feel after that. I was sleeping really good too, bummer that it woke me up but glad there's no real damage! Sacha |
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
Springfield IL. here, I have hardwood floors in my bedroom, and the bed slid all the way to the other end of the room. I just held on for the ride.

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I'm at 48 mile marker of I70 East and we felt two seperate tremors. Watching the Dayton, Ohio news when what I assume to be the aftershock wiggled a little. Hope all is well with my Hoosier and Illini friends. Dave

Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
I was awakened by the awesome power of nature, too. The whole house was shaking. I thought it I was just having a nightmare. But, when one of my dogs was running around the yard, with her "Hey. What the hell's going on" bark, reality set in. So, I turned on the TV and both local stations were all over it. At a revised 5.2, they say this was the second most powerful earthquake ever felt in this part of Indiana. Right after the 5.3 one, in 1968. It's not California or Southeast Asia, but definitely enough to give you some empathy for what the have to go through.
Hopefully, the next rumbling/shaking I feel is from multiple 800 H.P., 410 cu. in. motors screaming across my field of vision, in a place further away from the epicenter of this thing. Jerry |
Re: Nothing like being woken up by an Earthquake
Kokomo is falling apart! Two nights ago we had a sonic boomb by a couple of F-16's playing lazer tag. That turned into a meteorite, UFO, Plane Crash..... This morning we have an earthquake? I missed it. I slept through it...my dog is fired he slept through both "Events". I highly recommend a Tempur Pedic Mattress because I slept through the quake.
