Tony Stewart's Thursday Night Thunder

Dear Mr. Stewart,

You're a forward thinking guy who still manages to stay grounded in your roots. You bought Eldora for your dirt track fans and now you get $#!t when you can't control the weather. I always said you'd never catch me at a pavement track unless it was the IMS, but we've grown up a little since then, haven't we? I now see what you saw a long time ago, the potentiental for success of the pavement tracks to trickle down to the dirt. I didn't get it then and I had no crystal ball to show me how a few Hoosiers would soon turn NASCAR on its ear.

USAC Thursday Night Thunder is returning to Indianapolis. Remember TNT? That was a star making vehicle that broke down somewhere along the road. It made you a star, after Jeff Gordon and before Ryan Newman. It was a catapult to the next level. I assumed it would be televised this season, but recently found out there's no deal. It seems if you lent your name to the package effort, regional sponsors would be lining up to put their name on a car.

I may be way off the mark about this and I'm sure there are elements I don't have insight to. I had to say something, though, because you're the only person I know capable of fixing our old star making machine called Thursday Night Thunder. The men in business suits only know how to sell it. I know a lot of people ask you for stuff all the time, but if Indianapolis can make stars again, you'll have more help from those new guys in doing the good things you're doing.

Best regards,

Deanna Lynn

Great idea, but with the MSR group. That group seems to be growing, has a TV package, and seems to have the tire cost down 50% compared to other pavement clubs. Also, there is no million dollar payroll, just a group dedicated to making pavement sprint cars successful. The biggest problem with TV is the production cost, in order to make that happen your marketing department must be creative, not turning away deals that are offered at no cost, but also put nothing in your pocket, just the opportunity to have a TV package. The MSR seems to be doing things with the total betterment of sprintcar racing in mind, not their 10-30% cut. The group that put the original TNT package together is gone, that group loved racing, there idea was a non-profit organization that went racing, seems to be the same quality triat that the MSR has, not the money, money, money, machine that now sits on west 16th street!!

I love your enthusiasm for the growing winged sprint series! However, if you'd like to use my ideas to promote your deal, then maybe we should chit-chat in private.

Yeah, I miss watching it. It gave all us racers and fans something to look forward to before the weekend races! I hope someone can put it back together again!

TNT is an acronym for Thursday Night Thunder

Plus, the Outlaws were on TNN (The Nashville Network).

I was thinking it should be on tv but why Tony Stewart? He already has too much going on. I think the pitch should be to Lucas Oil! Dont they have the naming rights to the track and own MavTV where they show a bunch of the Lucas Oil lat model races? I believe so. Why not pitch them to do the Thunder live again? Just saying makes a lot more sense than spreading Stewart thinner than the 500 projects he has now going on......

That's fine, as long as the annoying announcer doesn't come with. And no, I'm not talking about Klepper. The other guy, Ken is his name? He's god awful.

Are Amsoil and Lucas oil competitors? If so, there's a problem. It sure seems like USAC should have some races on tv. Bob Jenkins and Johnny Parsons would be my prefered announcers. Maybe even dust off Bobby Unser!

midgets and sprint cars have been put on the back burner with USAC.... its all off road nowa days..

Dirt sprint car and midget racing are a large focus for USAC. That's "off road". and now that I think of it... pavement racing is also considered "off road"

USAC isn't expected to promote events, too, are they?

Since they are the promoter atTerre Haute & ORP/IRP/LORP or whatever the name is now, they better start promoting. If they don't do something to let people know they are racing how will they have any cars or crowd? Someone explain to me how you do the same thing over and over and expect different results?:17::15:

I know for sure they are sactioning the events, but are you positive they are the promoters? USAC has no marketing department because normally the tracks promote the events. How can they be expected to promote an event with no marketing department?

This sport has so many stars. It's just that sort of passion that makes Foyt a living legend. :23:

Typically, the tracks do their own promotion.

LORP's communications director was on Don Kay's show tonight. He did say they were working on a TV deal, not the level of ESPN but more like the Must see racing deal. Also they just installed a new scoreboard which should be working by Thursday night.

Thanks. Isn't Must see racing a webcast though? Isn't there a race fan that owns a regional television network somewhere in Indiana?

In Indy the must see races are on the Hometown sports channel on Comcast cable. It is on similar stations on cable networks in other parts of the country

short track scott 5/10/11 11:27 PM

The Must See television package is a group of cable affliates as well as a nation feed through both Directv and Dish Network. It is available to nearly 100 million homes. The web part is through racefanstv, and is an online archive for the programming. It is not a live webcast. The ability is there to do live tv, but the ability to pick better broadcast times is why it is taped at this point.

Just a suggestion... There is a "Thanks" button that you can use to thank members who have responded.

It looks like this...
https://www.indianaopenwheel.com/ima...ost_thanks.gif

Using this option probably will be less annoying to other members. It's nothing personal... I'm just tired of answering complaints about thread bumps.;)
