Looks like between 11am and 2pm some precipitation might be falling.

Tim, Yesterday they said all of the rain was out of the area by noon. if they couldn't get a track ready last night then I don't think there is a snowballs chance in hell that they will run tonight. Not venting at you...just a little disgusted.

Due to the overnight fog, continuing mist today, and heavy rains during the week; the racing surface at Eldora Speedway cannot tolerate any additional moisture. We are watching the weather very closely – IF it would rain any more this morning or afternoon, for the safety of the drivers, we will have to cancel tonight’s racing program.

And by looks of radar rain is almost on top of them now.

just so you know, we had all three tractors on the track working hard to get the track ready for tonight. even with rain coming we were trying. i think its important for you to know that usac pulled the plug on tonights race without consulting anyone at eldora. knowing that we were going to lose a ton tonight, we were still committed to getting tonight in for the teams AND the fans. nobody can control the weather, not even earl.

Tony if this really is you thanks for answering. But with a 5 hour drive 1 way I just cant take the chance that I'll get to see a race. And for that I'm sad as I used to love 3 or 4 trip a year there.[/I]

If this is really Tony??? I love to have a constructive conversation about how I feel about Eldora and the state of operations there. I commend you for all the vast improvements to the facility which are now second to none. Except for the racing surface itself, and some how Eldora has lost touch with the average fan. These things can be corrected easily. I live north of Dayton and have been a huge supporter of Eldora for my whole life but I just dont think your seeing the big picture with the average fan. I know you want whats best for Eldora and its great history. If interested, please pm me a way to talk to you to bring Eldora back to its once must see status.

Sincerly, Brent Furay

Really? Perhaps you could get in touch with Mr. Warren Buffet and give him some investment advice while you're at it. Wow:5:

I drove through rain almost the entire drive home after the plug was pulled. Blue skys and warmer temps greated me as I pulled into my driveway. Sometimes you just can't win. So whoever pulled the plug for tonight made the right call. There was standing water all over the place along the way. So if there was wet issues last night, I don't see how they could race tonight.

I appreciate Tony getting on here to comment. Sometimes when there is nothing said after a situation like last night (by anybody at Eldora), fans feel like they are ignored. Appreciate commenting.....

Nevermind the fans....................

Superduke - while it really doesnt matter what your weather was like in Sidney yesterday, I did find it hard to believe it was sunny and 69 at 3:45 so I went to the national weather service website and looked up their official records for yesterdays weather for Sidney, Ohio. It shows that at 3:56 pm (15:56 below), it was 56 degrees with the conditions listed as fog/mist. Again, really doesnt matter, but I feel like someone needs to keep you on your toes around here.

WGAS what the NWS says.

In Piqua (1/2 hour S.E. of Eldora) at 4:05PM Saturday it was flat out sunny, and 70* according to the bank downtown!

I am curious why it was USAC and not Eldora that pulled the plug. Was USAC afraid of another night like Friday? Did Eldora want to try and run?

mikew 4/11/11 10:41 AM

Re: Eldora weather ...Saturday

Eldora took great pains to make sure that everybody realized that USAC was calling the shots on Friday and Saturday. Whether it was the drivers electing to let the mods and stocks run before them to try and bring the track into shape, letting the fans know that USAC pulled the plug Friday due to the dense fog or USAC pulling the plug Saturday when it rained in the afternoon.

It made me wonder if they were trying to avoid any repeat of last year's backlash by making everybody aware that USAC was making all the decisions. It also made me wonder if that tact would backfire by making people think that USAC had little to no confidence in Eldora's ability to get the track prepped and therefore was calling all the shots.

I will leave it to the more experienced members of this forum to debate whether Tri-State, Kokomo or Lawrenceburg would have been able to pull this show off given similar conditions.

Whatever the case, I am out the hotel stay. Made the most of the rained out Saturday night show and went to the "Bistro on Broadway" in Greenville. Very good food. I would highly recommend.

Ok you had three tractors on the track but I don"t think they are anyone else on your crew know how to work a track and not just a wet one but at any kind of a track. I also think thats a cheap shot saying it was all USAC fault for pulling the plug ! With the track the way it was and the time wasted Friday what the hell else they suposse to do? signed a former fan of eldora :7:

All I heard from two announcers Sat (One who'd never been to the track before) Is how hard they work, What a awesome track it is yadda yadda yadda. Reguardless. THE TRACK WASN"T READY for the second straight year in a row.

The problem as I see it as everything at Eldora has improved a bit EXCEPT FOR THE TRACK. Earl did two things, Opened the gates and ran the show, Or didn't open the gates at all.

One thing clearly missing is the number of push trucks. That place always had 25-40 there almost always more than cars in the main class. Im no expert but some more wheels and a couple sheeps foot going and the show friday would have been completed before the fog.

The Nascar Experience, Lets see, didn't they used to run on Dirt, Mud, Dust and even oiled down tracks?
