Bristol track record

Just heard on twitter after the nationwide race that there will be several cars including an asphalt sprint provided by Tony Stewart that will be trying to break the track record. Supermodified, street legal supercharged mustang and a motorcycle. Will air on speed April 2nd after the truck race.

The NASCAR record? Sammy smoked that on dirt didn't he?

foytfan 3/9/11 7:23 PM

From the way I understood it it was going to be Sammy's record.

Well they should be able to do it.... They need to put dirt back on it! It's only fair...

Re: Bristol track record

This is from an October 2003 article on a AVSS test at Bristol:

The side by side testing was breath taking as Feeney, Blonde and Fedewa did swapping of positions and ran several laps at a 13.9 second pace racing along side of each other. The fastest laps recorded were low 13.8’s with Feeney, Bloom, Blonde and Fedewa all running between 13.83 and 13.87. The cars driven by Cox and Ryan Katz also broke the 14 second barrier. The all-time track record at Bristol is 14.908 by Ryan Newman in a Winston Cup car and 13.986 by Sammy Swindell in a World of Outlaws car when the track ran with a dirt surface. The testing proved that the AVSS are not only the fastest short track cars in the world on a paved surface, but can also claim to be among the most competitive as the teams ran many laps at blazing speeds and raced close together.

Blah, Blah, Blah, it still ain't as fast as Winchester, so why is Bristol such a big deal? I saw Bentley Warren go 13.99 at Winchester at least 15 years ago in the Bowley 5. I know that the winged sprinters go at least 13.5 there. The non winged cars go 14.o's.

and Eldora's even faster.:31: Last I read the record at Bristol Dirt was 13.05 w/ 24deg banking, Big E is in the 12's. The thing about Bristol is it's NAPCAR hype & horse pucky.:deadhorse: Fortunately sprint car fans know better. :6:

CTtoPA 3/9/11 9:40 PM

Eldora is not a full half.

CTtoPA is right, Big E is not a real half mile. More like 7/16... Still a fast place but Bristol will be faster, it's over a half. Oh, and lets not do this dirt vs pavemnet thing again ok? Sprint cars are sprints cars and fast is fast..... Supers are awesome too! THat Mustang will be cool to see, and I wonder what kind of bike it will be???

Re: Bristol track record

The thing I don't get is why they are going to film it on March 19, all the diehards will get the lap times off twitter, and watch it on Youtube three minutes after it happens. Then wait until April 2nd to show it on TV.

I'd say with the wider track surface, shorter straightaways and wider turns Eldora should be no doubt faster then Bristol. This is Eldora laid over top of Bristol with the outside wall of 1 and 2 tangent.

The last time there was a "this 1/2 mile track is faster" discussion, I had put together Eldora, Toledo and Winchester. Of course the banking isn't accounted for on all these tracks.

That's right Bristol is .533.

Bristol covered in dirt was the craziest thing I have ever watched! Brian Paulus crushed a car like a tin can...it was scary fast even more than Eldora. The wind was crazy in the stands after 3 laps also.

i had two hometown boys ( Denny Schwartz, Michael Bradley) qualify for the main in the mods, and they said it was scariest place they ever ran... Scarier than Springfield and DuQuoin

At Bristol they were getting straightaway speeds near 170, they don't get that fast at Eldora. I was glad I got to go to Bristol that first year (2000) but it looked like the racing was better the next year. Wish they still held a race there.

People rave about Belleville as well. Brooke Tatnell told me once that speed wise it's def. faster than Eldora.

Actually, Tracy Hines set the track record at Winchester in 2009 in a non wing with a lap time of 13.964 seconds. It was cold that day and the track was lightning fast!
