USAC Opener at Eldora postponed

This is an email that I just received from Eldora:

for immediate news release

WET GROUNDS FORCE CANCELLATION

ROSSBURG, OH (April 4) – Heavy overnight Thursday rains inundated an already saturated surface and in the interest of safety and concern for the race teams, Eldora Speedway officials have reached a decision to postpone Saturday’s (April 5) planned race meet.

On the agenda was the annual Jud Larson/Don Branson Classic for non-winged USAC (United States Auto Club) Sprint Cars, Moser UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars. That entire program has been moved to Saturday, May 10.

Had a bad feeling I was going to read this today. It sucks to waste what looks like to be such a nice day tomorrow. It wouldn't be Spring if a April race at Eldora wasn't cancelled. More than not, it just doesn't seem to work out. Guess Anderson only this weekend.....hopefully.

When you schedule ANY race you should be looking to run not cancel. But it seems if it's a "BIG RACE"(ie four crown, dream, kings) they wil do anything! If it REGULAR SANCTIONED race(ie USAC, ALL-STARS,Outlaws)they just throw in the towel a day or a week early and say o'well gosh it's to wet.

:censor:RUN IN YOUR DAM TRACK AND RACE:loser:

Three years ago it rained poured at 4pm on race day after a night of thunderstroms. It also rained after the heats and they still got it in.

Twin Cities Sprintweek 2005?

Grain haulers do a hell of a job packing!

Too bad USAC couldn't figure out some way to post this on their web site without making the user search around for it.

Anyone else think that new site is terrible?

year after year the usac opener is a myth. Tony needs to make some changes with the clowns running that place. forcast for a nice perfect saturday at the start of april and this again and again. Pole Day? i may just eat the $80 i shelled out for the chair sections on the usac shows this year. last years track at the 3 crowns was a joke. you can only hope to see the opener when no wing or wedge rubber has been laid down for a while. This is when K miller needs to step in!:redflag:

I'll second that, not an option for me. I'd rather save my money.

Guess I'll stay home and watch the 4 most evenly matched Final Four teams in history. Would rather be racing, but at least there is something to do.

Re: USAC Opener at Eldora postponed

They wonder why they don't get the crowds for USAC races, maybe it is lack of effort. It might take some hard work, but at least the fans know you are commited to them. With hardly any tracks open they would be assured good crowds and car counts. This is always my favorite (from what I remember) because the sun dosen't beat down the track til 9 pm. This was rained out because of pure laziness.

Wow...unbeivable. I live only 6 mile from Eldora. In the past 7 days we have received .83 inches of rain. (only about a half inch last night and this am.) I think this is more of Larry Kemp than anyone else. I think he makes the call for this. Odd thing is I have stopped and looked at the track a couple of times in the last two weeks. If he wanted, he could have spent many hours in the last two weeks getting ready. For me this is sad, Kemp just does not have the pride or desire that Eldora Speedway deserves. I wonder who in Indy is over seeing Eldora?? I would think Tony has someone with this respondsability. Wake-up Indy........

:rolleyes:Funny, i heard that the grader was sinking into the track surface when they tried to take it out there. Its awful easy to sit in your warm house/office etc and take potshots even though you havent seen it with your own eyes, isnt it guys. i want to see a race there as bad as the rest of you but since i havent seen the track today I'll take their word for it. Everyone around here has either got to ***** about promoters, daylight savings time or the cost of a ticket to get in. Guess what, Eldora is still cancelled, the burg still costs $15 and daylight savings time is here to stay. Deal with it! A good percentage of the racers are probably thankful for the early call so they didnt waste their money to haul to a rainout!

racefan20-If the track would have had some attention the past two weeks....the grader would not be making tracks. I wonder what would happen if someone would take some pride to the track? I guess it saddens me to remember the hours Earl put in on the track. You could swing in and find him working on the track all the time. That just is not happening anymore.

Well said!! I can't believe the crying has already started this season.
It may not be raining right now or for Sat. but it doesn't take much when the ground is already wet. If they didn't call it and raced you can be assured people would complain about the track conditions or whatever they could come up with. Relax people racing will be here soon!

Bill, we need a new section here. A soap opera section - As IOW Turns. People can go there to cry about how a rainout, a $3 price increase, or a dusty track has caused them imeasureable pain & suffering, made their wife leave them, and turned the milk in their coffee sour. Children all over the world are going to bed hungry, our young men are dying in Iraq and Afganistan, but this is the big problem. Get a grip, people. It's a freakin' rainout. There will be more this season without a doubt. Please let's move on. I'm off my soapbox now.:headbang:headbang

This is a racing message board. It's not a message board about starving children, the war in Iraq, Darfur, property taxes, school shootings or anything else. It's about racing. By their nature, message boards contain a lot of pissing and moaning. So, that you see a lot of pissing and moaning concerning racing topics here should surprise you very little.

Some people may want to re-read some of the posting rules:

Quote:

Below are some general rules which you should observe when using this message board. Please follow them (some of these rules are just common sense/courtesy, so they're not hard to follow) :

We take this "Be Polite" rule very seriously! We do not tolerate any rudeness. Any member who is intentionally unpleasant or disruptive may be banned without warning.

No personal attacks of any kind against a member, or group of members. Having a difference of opinion is fine, but if it gets out of hand and turns into a fight to get the biggest jab at the other person, then its gone too far.

Excuse me? Earl would cancel USAC if a bird pissed on the track. I made the trip several times only to see the haulers going the oposite way.

WOO now, hed pack till midnight saturday to get it in.

Nothings changed and Im not blaming, accusing or whining. This race has always been iffy. Why don't USAC schedual blocks of races like pavement early and late and dirt throughout the May -sept. dry season?

I want to officially announce my resignation as the Unofficial
Eldora Weather Man. I suck at it.

I had only a few 10th of a inch of rain last night. One of the guys that
Works with me and goes by the track every day said that there was a
Lot of water lying in the fields this morning. I seen it rain a few inches
Here in Coldwater and be dry at Eldora.

I am just as disappointed as the rest of you but look on the bright
Side they re- scheduled it in May. How many years did they not give us
Another date.

As far as SAM from Coldwater. Who are you ? why don’t you sign your name,
What do you mean that they never worked on the track.
I went to the track Monday to see what things looked like.
I went inside and you could see clearly that the track was worked on.
You could see where they use the Sheep Hoof as well as other vehicles.
I went to the Office and talked to Joe Schmitmeyer (Earls Son in law)
He works there everyday as does his wife Star. I told Joe the track looked good
He told me that Larry Boos was on the track several times.

I don't know if that was directed at me or not, but I hope not. My post contained no personal attack, just the simple fact that your boy Dwight shouldn't be shocked to see people complaining on this board. It happens all the time here!
