2011 KISS Schedule Set

2011 KISS Schedule Set

January 13, 2011 – With most of the Hoosier state resembling a frigid winter wonderland, promoters of the King of Indiana Sprint Series are pleased to announce that the opening round of the 2011 KISS campaign is only 112 days away.

This year's KISS program will be competed on six of the most challenging dirt ovals in the country, each an integral part of the series for the past three seasons. However, this year, the sequence of the races has changed. The curtain will lift at Bloomington Speedway on Friday, May 6. A week later, Gas City/I-69 Speedway hosts the second round, on Friday, May 13. The next weekend, Kokomo Speedway will be the site of the third event, Sunday, May 22. Lawrenceburg Speedway is next on the schedule, the following Saturday, May 28. After a short three week break, the KISS tour returns to Tri-State Speedway, in Haubstadt, on June 19, a Sunday. The King of Indiana will again be crowned at Paragon Speedway, Saturday, June 25.

2011 KISS SCHEDULE
May 6 Bloomington Speedway
May 13 Gas City I-69 Speedway
May 22 Kokomo Speedway
May 28 Lawrenceburg Speedway
June 19 Tri-State Speedway
June 25 Paragon Speedway

KISS isn't a touring series; each track is responsible for conducting the event in accordance with their track rules and the agreed-to guidelines. Drivers draw for heat race starting positions, and features will be 30 laps. Other information will be promulgated at a later date.

Vukie,

Thanks for the information. The only question I have would be the Lawrenceburg date. On the 2011 Lawrenceburg Speedway schedule that they have up on their website, it shows the date as May 21st not May 28th. I look forward to these shows every year. I am glad the promotors work together on these shows.

I thought last year they moved it to the week before the 500 which would be the 21st. before that it was the same night as the Little 500 and the night before the 500. This date makes much more sense.

This sets up a great weekend schedule...USAC Sprints at Bloomington on Friday May 20, then KISS at the Burg on Saturday the 21st and Kokomo on Sunday the 22nd.

That makes for 1 hell of a weekend in May :32: You would think Putnamville would try to get in on this series this year :11:

Agreed. I was really surprised they didn't make the sprint week schedule this year either. Spiker is really getting that track into good shape and pretty good sized crowds are showing up now. At least they got midget week again.

Re: 2011 KISS Schedule Set

Well midget week was USAC's call, Sprint week and KISS decisions are made by the participating track owners I believe. Obviously someone in that group doesnt like Spiker. Unfortunately the bulk of the fans would like to see Sprint week and KISS shows at Lincoln Park. SO will any of you track owners/promoters have the balls to stand up and explain why they have blackballed Lincoln Park. Dont think I'll hold my breath waiting. :7:

Why would midget week be USAC's call but not sprint week? Seems to me they should be synonomous. I hope that Spiker being blackballed amongst other Indiana promoters isn't the case. Can't imagine why that wold be the case.

Sprint Week was invented before USAC sanctioned it. Tracks got together and started it, USAC later sanctioned it. Therefore, tracks have the final call of who’s in and who’s out (as I understand it). Midget Week was originally started by USAC. So USAC has the call on that. That would be the difference.

why would kiss schedule against hut 100 ? i mean i know there is only maybe 3 or 4 drivers that would do both if on different dates but in a fans view ?? you would think it would be a win win for everyone not knocking Dave one bit, he does a wonderful job at Lawrenceburg speedway. just a thought?

Re: 2011 KISS Schedule Set

There are always going to be conflicts no matter how you schedule. However, if you check last years schedule, the Hut 100 was on Saturday May 8th. The KISS race at Lawrenceburg was on Saturday May 22nd. Dave kept the same corresponding date while USAC, POWRI and Tri State moved their date. Why blame Dave?:11:

But that is the point Mike, I thought originally the other tracks were dark or ran other classes against the KISS races. As it is only Bloomington and Gas City really adhere to that. The schedule also shows the Haubstadt KISS on June 19th, a Sunday, Kokomo has a regular show that day. Lawrenceburg doesnt run sprints against the Paragon finale so kudos to Dave for that. If we arent going to encourage all the local heros to participate by not running point nights against KISS then why even bother having it.

John,

I understand the point. Fans want promoters to work together and schedule for their convenience. It is not going to happen. They all have to run a business model that makes sense for them. If it happens to work out with everyone else, so much the better. Mike and Jiggs seem to work better together than some of the rest.

I am sure it is extremely difficult to put a schedule together that will satisfy everyone. Since Tri State/MSCS hasn't publicized their schedule yet, we really don't know exactly what it will look like and what dates they will be promoting.

However, back to my point. USAC, POWRI and Tri State MOVED the Hut 100 from Saturday May 8th last year to May 21st this year. Dave kept the corresponding date for his KISS race at Lawrenceburg. Who and why was the Hut 100 moved?

In looking at USAC midget schedule and POWRI schedule, nothing on May 7th; the corresponding date from last year. It would seem then that maybe it was Tri State that wanted the switch? Only a guess since we don't have Tom's schedule yet. Also, why did Tri State move their KISS date to a Sunday? Many fans certainly won't be able to make that show with a work day on Monday. But then again, not one promoter called and asked my opinion either.:3:

Another point to be made is that May 21st date is also the pole day for the Indianapolis 500 qualifying. It sure makes it tough for many of us to make Haubstadt or Lawrenceburg as they will need to leave Indy before the final gun sounds at IMS to make starting time. Tough choices indeed for all of us.

Again, I am not trying to throw anyone under the bus here. As I mentioned before, scheduling is extremely difficult when you try to satisfy everyone. Final verdict: not everyone is going to be happy.:2: Now time for my chill pill and a cold drink.:32:
