IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
Yet another name change for the former IRP and ORP. It will now be called Lucas Oil Raceway. Whatever they want to call it, it will still always be Indianapolis Raceway Park to me.

You've just gotta love Forrest Lucas.:8: Few people have ever invested more in the sport of racing than this guy has.

Re: IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
Pretty soon he is going to have come up with some better names. Currently we have Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana. We have Lucas Oil Speedway in Missouri. Finally, we have Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in California.
I have been to the track in Missouri and it is top notch. Planning my first trip to the track in Indiana this year the night before the 500. |

Re: IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
Lucas has the money and his name on the stadium so if he wants he could do it first class. Hope that is next.

Re: IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
Hope his involvement with IRP includes some long overdue TV time for the USAC races!

Re: IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
Lucas Oil Raceway Park sounds better. At least the "RP" in "IRP" would still be there. :)

Dream on, the football field is not removable. Other factors keeping this from happening, the cleaning of the facility, and the amount of work to add walls and fencing. Its a nice stadium, but there are alot of things people have no clue about when it comes to the floor. This is not a dig at anyone, there were just some major screw up made when they designed this place. |

Re: IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
I ment to quote DO sorry. 1 thing to rmember Monster trucks and Supercross do not create the dust storms that a race does. For the 2 events you mention all they do is cover the field with plastic and plywood. Then add dirt. The supercross is the hardest event on the dirt. Because of this they have workers out there between every race working on different areas. The penalty for breaking thru is huge. The reason why I say this is impossible, there is no way to make profiet on a midget race. Heck promoters in Indiana are having a hard time making good proifiets off of midget races and they own there tracks. There are several other behind the sceens things that add even more cost to the event. Monster jam and supercross nearly sell the place out. I'm not sure if you could get enough fans to show up to fill 2 levels.

Re: IRP/ORP becomes Lucas Oil Raceway
True not enough tickets would be sold to offset the costs involved, but a dream is still a dream. Dirt race inside in the Winter for us Indiana fans would be amazing!!!
