Loyet starts on the pole of his heat, goes wire to wire winning the heat and then after the race is over he's penalized 2 POSITIONS for "Jumping the start". How do you jump the start when you're on the pole. Also, If somehow he jumped the start, why wouldn't they throw a yellow and restart rather than wait till AFTER the race to penalize him?

Exactly. Maybe that's how they call it there? You should give the pole car a second chance before being penalized and do it before re-starting the race as to create a new line up moving the other cars into place.

I totally agree with you. Maybe some Kiwi could explain if they do it differently down under.

No you didn't hear the interview correctly. Initially Loyet was penalized 2 positions and Scott Buckley (Kiwi) was penalized 1 position. They both appealed but ONLY Buckley's penalty was rescinded! That's how Buckley was given "credit" for the win.

Did he start on the inside or outside? I think if I remember right, the outside is actually considered position 1 and the inside is P2. That might help a little as to why he was penalized. Again this is off memory from being there 8 years ago so I could be totally wrong...lol

That's exactly how they do it in the U.S. too. You're penalized at the next yellow or the end of the race. The only time the yellow is brought out is unless they're going to give the front row another chance. N.Z. is 100% strict on their rules as well.

(Hopefully this gets posted while this thread is still relevant)

Loyett wasnt aware that P2 sets the pace, so he got caught out on that one.
Scott Buckley is the son of the promoter, its got to make him cringe when he gets a ruling in his favor (he is in a tough position there) and others dont.

The most important things at Western Springs are:
1. Noise - the problems haven gone away, Springs are just doing a better job of managing the situation at the moment.
2. Time - Springs cant run 1 min over cerfew (10:30pm) so - no heat race restarts if you stop for ANY reason; no yellow flags to correct ALL on track incidents as they happen as this also takes up time.
3. Racing

Its a sad sad state when racing ranks a poor 3rd at a race track.
