1992 Dave Darland Beachy 36d 1/24 Model Build
Well, It's officially friggin cold so you know what that means! Trapped inside with no Sprinters in site so I gotta turn my attention to some plastic. Have had this one on my "to-do" list for quite sometime, I'm finally gonna make it happen.
The build will be pretty much straight out of the box with only 1 aftermarket part (hood), some .030 sheet styrene and some 1/16" styrene rod for the extra chassis detail. The car started life as one of the older, mid to late 80's, Revell kits. I re-created the decals from some pics that I THINK Susan sent me or I found while lurking on the web. On with the pictures.... 1:1 car - http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...992Darland.jpg My re-created decal sheet. Picture isnt the best, but you get the idea. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0372.jpg Everything you see in white is custom cut and glued by hand. This picture only shows 1 side done at that point. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0371.jpg Chassis all assembled and painted black. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0375.jpg Engine complete minus air filters. The black thing you see at the oil pan is a clothes pin, should give ya a good idea of how small these 1/24 cars are. I kinda free-styled the engine as far as colors etc. Wont see it with the hood on anyway. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0377.jpg Long way top go yet. Waiting on the hood to get here from Australia, once I have that I can start working on the arm guard. Hope you guys don't mind me posting this stuff. Any questions or comments feel free to ask/post. I do these cars for my own use and satisfaction, to be put away in a display case. I DO NOT build cars commercially or for sale otherwise. |
Re: 1992 Dave Darland Beachy 36d 1/24 Model B
This is fantastic. I can think of no other project to get kids involved in racing than to set up a contest where young kids take kits or make kits and try to make a model of a tradtional sprint car of some era. Pick a racer/picture and have the kids visit thier hobby stores and try to buy all the pieces to compose/build a sprint car in it's setting for a certain sprint car era. Have them judged by you and give out prizes for the first 4-5 winners. If you were willing to take on a contest of this nature, I would donate 100.00 dollars to the cause for first place.
Sincerely, Larry Otani P.S. This is really kool. It's a brain storm...lol! And God Bless you. :8: I love what you are doing. It is so cool! |
Re: 1992 Dave Darland Beachy 36d 1/24 Model B

Joe:
I am absolutely fascinated by the work those guys over there are doing. I registered for the site, and depending on the money involved plan on starting one soon. |
Re: 1992 Dave Darland Beachy 36d 1/24 Model B
COOL! Ive got the motor mounted up in this car and have started the rear end and suspension. Pics soon!
P.S. if anyone wants to help fund my addiction to plastic I'm selling some Sprint Car window stickers on ebay. Info is in the "other Classifieds" section. THX! |
Re: 1992 Dave Darland Beachy 36d 1/24 Model B
See, I told ya I've been working on it. Also found out my hood is on its way from Australia. That hood and some other parts arethe only thing stopping me from 2-3 other DD builds.
Plan on starting the front end assembly sometime this week and hopefully some paint sprayed for the body. On with the pics...... http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0382.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0383.jpg |

Quickie update: Got the aftermarket hood in the mail today, added the oil can in front of the left rear shock and added the header mud guards. HOPEFULLY, i will be painting this thing this weekend, then I can start applying decals! Sorry, not the best picture in the world.

Re: 1992 Dave Darland Beachy 36d 1/24 Model B
Stop the Presses, Call you your mother..... I WORKED ON A SPRINT CAR MODEL!
Small update to this stalled out build but I did get the hood fitting better, got both LF and RF radius rods n shocks mounted. Upper shock mounts were kickin my butt last night, but today went on like butter. Also added the header mud guard on the right side that just needs some paint. Next step----make the arm guard and spray some primer/paint! http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...D/IMG_0440.jpg And the printer has the new 2011 DD 21x decals waiting to ship to me :D |
