Guidelines for posting defined
We had a political thread on here a while back and things kind of got ugly with many people wanting the thread removed.
Would it be OK to post political threads here with the proper title? "OT- ********" or something of that nature? Therefore you would know prior to opening the thread what you were going to read about. Most forums have an "off topic" or "anything goes" area. The golden rule in them is don't be mean, hateful and rude to fellow members. OR do we just not want any ******** on IOW period? I figured out how to add a poll so lets see how we all feel. It is multiple choice too so vote for more than one if it is fitting for you. |

This is IOW. If I want ********, I will find a message board for that.
|
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
While the board was designed to center around racing... off-topic discussions will be allowed unless they fail to abide by the forum rules. It all makes for enjoyable reading just as long as it don't get out of hand.
Besides, most of us are going to post about racing anyway... whats wrong with an occasional off-topic post?? |
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
I have Bill O'Rielly watching out for me so lets leave it strictly a race related site . Of course "racing ********" being the exception.:headbang

Re: Guidelines for posting defined
I vote that the guidelines should be exactly whatever Bill Gardner wants them to be. That said, I don't have a problem with whatever the powers that be decide. Being a Pepsi guy in a Coke world, a traditional sprint car guy in a predominately winged country, a Democrat (for the most part) in a state solidly red since the days of Honest Abe, and a handsome guy in an ugly Section ("A" :wink), I'm quite accustomed to being in the minority. :headbang All that just to say I really don't give a rat's patoot on this burning  issue.

Re: Guidelines for posting defined
I'll start a religious thread and see how that goes. ********, religion and racing. It seems to go together.
|
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Looks like the people that don't give a s#!t like me are leading so far.:)
|
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
I read what I want and don't read what I am not interested in. The fact that I might not be interested in a particular post doesn't mean that someone else might not be. Doesn't matter as long as we keep it civil and have respect for each other.

Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Just always remember. In some countries any talk or critisisms both Political and Religious could be a death sentence.
Im just glad to have the right to believe how I want and to have others that dissagree with me :) |
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Just dont say the word "Late Model" in any post...the board will explode
:rolling |

On this and any other message board you have the right NOT to read anything you want. If a subject or post bothers you simply move on. The only thing that's wrong is when PERSONAL ATTACKS are made. Other than that, have at it.

Hey Marv, I resemble those remarks.:O: As far as the site I don't care one way or the other. As a poster of non racing related threads on IOW, I should be the last to say one way or the other. I am just thankful that Bill allows all of us to participate in the best exchange of information and ideas out there.:thumb Thanks Bill. |
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Transfer all political posts to Hoseheads. Those people are full of political venom and like to piss and moan.:angry-smiley-007:

Re: Guidelines for posting defined
It will be so nice when racing season starts, then maybe some of this "other stuff "will go away. Then will can all share our "views" on who punted who and how chitty the track was and so on:thumb

Re: Guidelines for posting defined

Jerry & others, I posted the poll out my own curiousity. I know there are others that are equally as curious as to what the membership feels on these topics. I would imagine that Bill would have made a more scientific poll. He can make it null and void by deleting it any time he wants to.
This started as Bill's board and will always be Bill's as far as I am concerned. Sorry if anyone felt this was totally official on my part, just having fun as we all try to do.:icon_smile_blackeye |
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Thank you, I was not sure if the poll was going to be the deciding factor or not. That is the nice thing about this site we can do just about anything we want. (within reason) No need to be sorry as I am sure no one was offended, It is interesting to see how people feel. Can you start a poll to see if I am the only one that likes warm Budweiser? :rolling

Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Mark, absolutely no reason for you to apologize! I posted my thoughts on the "Off-topic" related posts strictly as a reader.
As the admin, I understand and appreciate everyone's opinion about the matter.... It is always nice to know how people feel about certain issues. I just don't feel that there are enough "off-topic" posts to create an entire new section of the message board that essentially would be just for filtering off-topic discussions. The original intent of the message board was to "center" most of the information around Indiana Sprint Car & Midget racing and then also allow a little other variety in content. So far, I think that method has worked pretty good. |
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Bill comparing you to OZ was a complement, after all you are the man behind the curtain that makes all the magic on this board. :respect:

There are thousands of message boards out there, most have a central topic. I usually go to a particular board to view/discuss a topic central to that board. An occasional OT is tolerable but it diffuses the focus of the board. Religion and ******** I usually stay away from as I try to enjoy life, :angry-smiley-007:not fight my way through it.

Re: Guidelines for posting defined
Hi Danny,
Yep, I'm a Republican. And to go one step further, I was in management, not the union, at Caterpillar. And my only complaint about the USPS is that it seems like you guys get more holidays than even school kids. :O: But I'm still a nice old man .......... |

Transfer all political posts to Hoseheads. Those people are full of political venom and like to piss and moan--Al Consoli
Here Here. I think that is absolutely the proper solution. But please do so in a manner that doesn't actually bring IOW to the attention of the venomous piss-and-moaners. |
Re: Guidelines for posting defined
One cannot escape ******** in any form.
The UMRA spat a few days ago proved that. :wink But national ******** on a racing board? No thankee. I'd just as soon not know what my racing friends' ******** or religion might be. Internet message boards are a great place for people to pontificate, bloviate and generally show more of themselves than they might otherwise wish to conceal. :D |
