The group was so late in the game, almost all of the Saturday dates for these series were already booked. 2009 should look a little more traditional, but I think the Hulman might always stay on the night before carb day.

I've been around this track all my life and I can NEVER remember anything of the magnitude of that press conference, yesterday. Big players, with plenty of sponsors and a definite plan. With an emphasis on families bringing their children to the races. The legendary half-mile oval has been reborn and her future looks very bright. I can't wait!

Re: THAT(s) Good News!!

There seems to be a discrepancy between the THAT and USAC schedules.

*THAT has the Hut 100 USAC Midgets listed as Saturday, October 4th.

*USAC has it listed on their schedule as a day race on Sunday, October 5th.

If it is on Saturday, October 4th, it conflicts with the MSCS $10,000 to win finale at Lawrenceburg. I hope it is the 5th, I'd like to be at both.

The WolfPack is set to Run The Monster, and Proud to be a Part of one of the Greatest Tracks Around!!!!!!!! This Group has Big Plans for the Fans as well, starting off with a Family Pass for the Infield for just 25 dollars that will include 2 adults and up to 4 kids! To me thats a Big Step in the Right Direction,,,,,,,,,not to mention that the Cars will Pit in the Infield...... Getting Indiana State involved is another Great Move and should help infuse some young blood and hopefully Ideas...... Now, just 2 months of waiting and a whole lot of prep work and we can truly say, that the Actions Back at the Action Track.....

If I do remember correctly they did have a lot of people in the infield there last May and that should just add to the crowd at that price now lets just hope mother nature co-operates on these dates and things are headed in the right direction now.

It would also be in conflict with the final POWRi show at Belle-Clair.

I was looking forward to a nice two-fer that weekend as well. I hope this is a misprint.

Well, since my other post is gone. I will post it in here.

I am doing photography for the track (I am one of a few). For now, I do not have a flash and was wondering what kind I will need when I can get it? Would a Nikon sb 600 or sb 800 work? I have a Nikon d70s.

also, the infield concession building and infield white platform is no longer there!

Roughly 200,000 race fans will be at IMS that Sunday afternoon, Duke. The Wednesday night show is a good idea for fans in the area. USAC SC at THAT Wednesday, USAC SC at ORP Thursday, NASCAR trucks at ORP & local sprint car shows Friday, a 400 lap midget race at Anderson and NASCAR Nationwide at ORP Saturday, and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Sunday. Nice week if you ask me.

But baring any rain, racing should be done 10:30pm.

And on the rain note, there should be off road racing on the track right now as the front stretch has a lake the whole width.

Track prep is underway. I was at the track today for a short time and there was heavy equipment on the track. Only a couple more work days until it will be race time.

Re: THAT(s) Good News!!

So update time.

A. Track has been pumped off yet again. They are hoping to get quite a bit of track prep done starting Monday.

B. Painting continues on the facilities in areas

C. PA system is operational including several new speakers

D. Safety lights are getting near operational

E. New fencing is going up in places

F. Trash and debris has been cleaned up on the infield

Only 20 days till race time. There is only one more planned clean up day and then it is race time and I am excited.

For those of you who are on the fence about going to the first race, if you can, go, you won't be dissappointed in some of the things Mike has planned.

C. PA system is operational including several new speakers

"Speaking of speakers", THAT has had a lousy PA system for years. Glad to see improvements are being made. If you guys are listening, my long held complaint is the announcer seems to always give the driver's name and qual (if held) time as the car is firewalled on the front stretch. The PA is way overmatched by the car noise. How about trying to do that when he is on the backstretch? I know....buy a program if you want to know who is driving (we already know most) but that doesn't help with the times. And, one more thing. A lap counter visable from the stands would be a welcome addition. I'm looking forward to some racin' at THAT.

THAT is not the only track that waits till the car in on the main straight to announce car & driver info.

It pretty much seem like most of the tracks I go to, do the same thing. I send E-Mails and talked to track people, but nothing seems to work.

I wish someone would explain to me why track announcers do it.

Tim Watson 4/13/08 11:34 AM

Re: THAT(s) Good News!!

I like the idea that a few tracks are going to broadcast the announcer over an FM frequency. The only bad thing about that is you end up giving info to everyone in your section that doesn't have a radio. However it's a good idea if you have a small pocket radio along.

It's probably more difficult for the announcers at the quarters where they get around in 11 or 12 seconds...and the backstraight isn't very far away. At Terre Haute's big half where they time in 19 or more and the back is almost in the next county it should be easier. I've never really had a problem hearing at Bloomington, Haubstadt, Kokomo, L'burg, etc. I think these guys will get it figured out.

Re: THAT(s) Good News!!

That is something ive always strived to do during Time Trials, wait until the car passes through turns one and going into two. It was always frustrating to me as well when I was younger trying to write down times.

Jerry Shaw 4/14/08 6:23 PM

Re: THAT(s) Good News!!

I was over there this afternoon. There was a piece of heavy equipment moving dirt from the back stretch to the front stretch. A large piece of concrete, in front of the grandstand, has been painted with a checkered flag pattern. They were in the process of making new sponsor ad boards. And the place was looking mowed and kept up. All signs that these guys are doing exactly what they said they were going to do. You can just see the ol' Action Track rising from the ashes.

Jerry
