Florida Sprint Action in February 2011

Sprint car open practice at Volusia on February 8, 2011, followed by the All Stars on February 9-10. WoO at Volusia on February 11-13.

In another example of great cooperation by sprint car sanctioning bodies and tracks, USAC runs at Ocala Speedway on February 16-19, while the ASCS Ronald Laney Memorial is being held about 100 miles to the south at East Bay Raceway on (you guessed it) February 17-19 with practice on the 16th. Thus I can drive over 1,000 miles and have to choose between one of these two shows. Congratulations to everyone involved. I really appreciate the fact that you are doing everything you can to grow the sport and give us a better fan experience. I really would have hated to be able to go down there and see both four nights of USAC and three nights of ASCS racing.

There are no 410s scheduled for East Bay this year, which should come as no surprise to those who have been attending their 410 shows for the past few years. It has been pointed out on IOW a number of times that the crowds weren't very large. I certainly hope that some other track will have some dirt sprint races. I wouldn't even mind returning to Hendry County Speedway.

I spoke to Phil (track owner) North Florida Speedway in Lake City and he is considering a non wing show the weekend before Usac at Ocala Feb 11-12...Tracks are 61 miles apart straight down I-75

I was told Hendry County will run non wing sprints on Feb 10-12 with practice being on the 10th and racing on the 11th and 12th.

Thanks to Papa Outlaw and Coach for this information. I am glad that Florida tracks are at least considering having these races. From my perspective as a fan, I would like to be able to see more more than one track and more than four nights of nonwing races. If both tracks are indeed thinking about doing this, I just hope that they can cooperate and not run against each other. I would think that more racers would be willing to come down if there were more races.

Thanks again for the info. Hope this happens. I look forward to the good racing, warm weather and, of course, fresh strawberries. Please keep us updated.

The race at East Bay is not ASCS sanctioned. Someone is misinfomed.

I don't know why anyone would bother with East Bay these days. They've run off every fan and sanctioning body known to man. The only reason USAC ran there last year was because they rented the joint.

It's really sad. East Bay used to be THE PLACE to be in Florida in February. Modifieds, Late Models, wing 410s, wing 360s but now they're lucky to get 20 cars in any division and a few hundred people in the stands.

USACfan that is SO true...East Bay is not what it use to be by far...Would like to give a shout out to Mike and Angie Peters of the Ocala Speedway :22: for stepping up and host the BEST SPRINT CARS and DRIVERS in the world. Hope to meet alot of you guy's down here in Feb. and don't forget about the non-wing 1000/1200 Lightning Sprints at the 1/4 mile Ocala Micro Speedway less then 2 miles down the road south from Ocala Speedway...The SSLSS will be racing there during the day Feb. 16-19...over 30 entries so far.visit us at www.sssprints.com :22:

COmpare the crowds for the Late Model shows against anything else they run down there. Now if there were more support for anything else, it would be a different story.

Nun that is true you see better racing with the late models then you do with the WFL (winged follow leader) sprints. This is why more and more people are liking the taxi cabs...JUST BETTER RACING....but take those damn crutches off the top and it's a whole new story is best and it's coming boys....non wing is poping up everywhere across the country:22:

I understand that Hendry County is working on a deal and there should be news soon. I would encourage fans to attend if there are sprints there. Last year they got rained out one of the two nights and had a very small crowd the other night, and they are still willing to try again. You have to support a track which will do this. They are also in the middle of stock car country, but are still willing to try. Also, where else can you get fried gator tail bits in the concession area? Really tasty! Also, they should be nice and warm, since they say they are the farthest south of any Florida track.

Hopefully, someone else will take the opportunity to help put together a real Florida nonwing sprint tour. Wouldn't three tracks be great?

Frank From my understanding it is a done deal...The FMSA will be racing there also Florida Mini Sprints (Winged)...North Florida (Lake City) was looking to do something but did not get together in time...working on trying to get my group there SSSprints (non wing lightning sprints) at Lake City if not will go run the wing at Hendry

[QUOTE=Papa Outlaw;201713]Frank From my understanding it is a done deal...

Great! My email from the track was several days old. Connections out here in the West haven't been the best I have ever seen. If you absolutely must have good internet connections when you travel, you might want to contact me for a list of where NOT to go.

Seriously, I hope that lots of people support this show. They certainly deserve it after rain and very short crowds last year and they are still doing it again.
