Best/worst 2010

as racing ends I start thinking about the BEST & WORST OF THE 2010 RACING SEASON

Re: Best/worst 2010

Worst for me was sitting in the grandstands watching the MXSCS at Anderson during Little 500 week and learning Jesse Hockett passed away.

Best for me was seeing a good friend run the Little 500, racing a sprint car myself, and Sara Elrod winning race after race in the 600cc micros.

The best was spending the weekend & sharing a race at Kokomo w/ daughter Kathryn. :6::2:

Fitz charging from the tail to second at the Haubstadt Hustler,
Clauson charging from the tail to win the Powri featch at Tri-City in August
Chil Bowl Sat. A main
The 53 returning to prominance
A great WoO feature at Pevely in April where Joey Saldana came from 13th to win with an injured hand

Worsts: Bloomington Sprint Week feature (I'm not going back for the third year in a row for that one)
Clayton flipping at the start of the Haubstadt Hustler:19:
Hud Cone's flip during Sprint Week at Haubstadt

Losing The Rockett RIP Jesse

ClaytonYeley 10/4/10 10:58 AM

Re: Best/worst 2010

The best came very early in the season. This is when I got to see midgets line up with 11 rows of 3 at the Tri-State Speedway for the Haubstadt Hut 100. BC and Kuhn were wild that night. :9:

davidm 10/4/10 12:01 PM

Re: Best/worst 2010

The best was 4 great nights of racing at LPS, Bloomington, Paragon and Kokomo during midget week.

The worst being laid up with kidney stones and missing my second trip out to Indy in July.

terrehautian 10/4/10 12:59 PM

Re: Best/worst 2010

Best, the three races I got to this year. Two P'viille watching Blake tear up the track to win it all the 4th of Sept. and Gaines on the 25th. Then the last USAC Sprint car show at TH was awesome with a spectacular track.

Worst, Jesse, I had the pleasure of talking to him a few times at THAT.

Re: Best/worst 2010

Best seeing one of the best little 500's i have ever seen!!! Worst was setting at Anderson during the power outage and hearing about Jesse. That guy had just started to really stand out in my mind.

Worst - Loss of the Rocket & Eldora dust race

mod16d 10/6/10 4:15 PM

Re: Best/worst 2010

Taking into consideration that the death of Jesse Hockett was the worst news possible, for me they happened the same night.
Worst: track prep at THAT and the mind numbing delay.(can't remember what race it was, think it was the Hulman Classic:14:)
Best: the race that followed 3 wide bottom to top and fast.

Isaac Chapple Racing 10/6/10 7:42 PM

Re: Best/worst 2010

Many great moments of 2010 have been mentioned in the earlier posts, but not many pavement ones. It was cool to see both of the Swanson brothers (Cody and Tanner) sweep the USAC midget races at ORP! :8: And of course as everyone one else has mentioned, R.I.P. "The Rocket". :13:

short track scott 10/6/10 7:52 PM

I concur that losing Jesse Hockett, the person, let alone the racer has been the lasting negative memory of this season. I received word of it during the power outage at Anderson and wrestled with how to break such news to those in attendance, given the grace period of no electricity. In the end it was addressed and later a moment of silence was taken. But there was a pall over the entire evening.

The best memory had to be in Wisconsin around the bonfire with newly minted Must See Racing series champ Troy Decaire. The Champ had excused himself to answer the call of nature when someone around the circle gave a dead-on coyote call. However it was the return call a moment later that sent the Champ racing back to his spot around the fire!

(Ok, so it was Tim Cox with the second call, but the deed was done...)

Knoxville USAC sprint heat races were really good. Terre Haute
USAC Sprints 9-11 were very good. To lose Jesse Hockett was the
worst. I was sure looking forward to seeing him run the "Hulman
Classic" He was preparing his car for this great race.
Best Regards,
John
