Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
Great pictures! It's just not fair for us here in Wisconsin to see pictures like that in the middle of winter. It's a mess here to but all that brown stuff that's on the ground in those pictures just happens to be white here. :crying:

I bet Dave makes it happen. saw on the AMSA web site that they signed a 5 year deal with Lawrenceburg this week . Guess we know one class for the next 5yrs cool .

Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
One thing about it, the years biggest gamble in Lawrenceburg isn't being placed on the tables at the boat.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but what is it about these changes that will help the shows be better? Why will these take Lawrenceburg from an above average local track to an elite experience? |

Don't know if the shows will be better but the facilities will surely be there to take marketing to the next couple of levels. Most tracks are known for a particular race at their facility. Maybe the burg will be known for 3 or 4 types of big shows as the facilities will be first rate. Just a thought. Also was told tonight that construction is right on the schedule. Should be done at the end of March.

Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
I have a feeling that this was all done not to improve the sprint car racing, but to attract oh say... late models, and the Outlaws? They turned it into a engine dyno, and I would be willing to bet that you will see the car count dwindle as the summer goes on, due to motor failures, or guys just not being able to be competitive with the bigger dollar teams.

Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
Don't get me wrong. I love big, fast tracks. I was asking more from the standpoint is that what the WoO and Usac wanted or something of that nature.
I don't think it's bad by any stretch, but I believe that on a local level some guys will move on. |
Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
Lets see, I know ten guys who B*tched about how bad the track is and how great the facilities are and ten guys who liked it slow and slick.
As a fan, I think Im gonna like the new track very much. Hopefully it all goes off without a hitch and it becomes the place to race and watch racing in the tri state area. Chuck, thinking that 24/7 work schedual is gonna have to start pretty soon to make April 5th |
Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
how can you say you dont or wont like it if you have never seen a race on it chuck dont you think you might be juming the gun????

Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
Not really, From the looks of it, It's kinda like KC or a steeper banked Twin Cities.
I know the Burgs been a track that a lot of drivers came too because it was easy on motors. It was also a track a lot of drivers went elsewhere for numerous reasons, several of which were already fixed last year. Brock, I know you liked it, expecially when it got a little slick. Your opinion is no less important than mine and even though your one of the racers, It shouldn't be more important either. You got two choices, Back gate. Low payout because fans get bored with it. It even happened last year to some extent *Strong crowds early and late season* or a exciting track with full stands and hopefully bigger payouts in the future.. I really think the track needs this. As Mills said, there are tons of quarters and very little variety. The Burg now looks like something *World Class* and something both racers and fans will *NOT WANT TO MISS* every week. Hopefully we can get a fan base in which a regular show could pay 2500-300 to start and more important for the promotor. That they could sell more advertising and afford to run a few WOO shows and stuff so that they could be successful too. Loren said it a long time ago. THEY ARE MAKING NO or little money (Several tracks are operating like that). Dave said the promotion company that brought the WoO pulled out because the lost money two years ago. Like it or not, A track needs some *Big shows* to actually be profitable. As it was, without a ton of sponsors they didn't make a dime on it and often operated at a *LOSS* Maybe you will have to freshen a motor to make it through a whole season instead of getting through the whole year on one fresh motor, But wheres it written that it HAS TO COST YOU 6-8 grand to do so when you should be able to do it for about 1500 *YOURSELF* I get the feeling half the cost of racing is self inflicted because of the ease of shipping it out, Ordering as you need it. Running the two lap tire just because it's a tenth quicker for qualifying. Hiring a crew chief when a little knowledge of the car you can make a few adjustments yourself and be a front runner, Buying your fuel at the track at a dollar fifty more than ordering a drum ect. ect. As a fan, I think it's gonna promote a lot more side by side racing. People up against the wall and guys setup to run low and a little bit of both. The Burg as it was could and did have good racing some of the time but way too often it was a huggy pole track that people got bored watching. Expecially when the times fell from 12 second laps to 17 second laps that the mods ran faster in the features than the sprinters. After this, A Pit restroom/shower, Turn two snack cart and maybe a backstretch grandstand and there will be no better dirt track in the nation IMHO A track in which they could have better money regular shows and some world class specials. As a sprint junkie, I can find something to enjoy about racing no matter what the conditions or count but to get and keep new fans. It's gotta be special and something you don't want to miss. The rumor is the HFC is going to three nights, Odd even and 50 grand. Thats right there with the Knox, Kings, WG national open and gold cup. Hopefully we can get a non wing of that caliber. Your right, It is jumping the gun as I haven't seen a race on it yet. I just hope it's a track that will draw and keep new fans and racers and bring racers back those currently going elsewhere for the most part. Id just love for this to be a track with *THE LAWRENCEBURG Nationals* The biggest Non Winged race in the nation. A track racers race all year at to get the edge to Win that race ect. A track fans come to see em and a track that provides exciting racing every week. We'll see, best of luck to you and all in 08 and for gods sake, Try it before you knock it :) Chuck, currently stoked about the new track and also thanks to all involved in Getting er done. |
Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
I'm beginning to see more of a resemblence to Florence, rather than KC. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. As a fan, I love a fast race track. As a dad, I rather see it a little slippery'er. :) It does look as if we're still in "back gate" mode, though. I think I read somewhere on here that Dave signed on with AMSA for 5 years.

As far as new tires the guys that have money will spend money the little guys will do what they have to to survive. I understand some of the fears of the little guys as we are still in that group, yes we are better off now and will do all the dirt U.S.A.C shows, but the little guy that did not get the same break we got over the winter due to friends investing in Josh's future still have to do what they need to survive and right now a high banked motor track just is not in there best interest. As I said before I do not have an opinion yet on the new layout there, I do however hate the fact that the old Kokomo Speedway is just a lot of good memories, some of the best races I ever seen were at a flat four different corner race track with a wall all the way around it. Trouble is you can not go back now. Good luck to everyone involved. Jerry #66j www.joshspencer.com |
Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
I'm glad we're going to have a little more variety in Indiana. I like the 1/4 mile bullrings but like a little change every once in a while. I've only been to Lawrenceburg three times and was never really impressed and after going last year to the Sprintweek show I really didn't plan on going back. I really didn't see the point in driving nearly three hours to see a dusty and slick 1/4 mile track when I could drive 12 minutes and see an excellent 1/4 mile track here at Bloomington. But I can't drive 12 minutes to see a high-banked 3/8 mile so I'll probably make a few trips down this year. I applaud:applaud: Lawrenceburg for what they've done and I really hope it works out well for them. I think they made a wise decision.

:winkIs Chuck the PR man for the Burg!

Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
Looks like a furr piece to go over there to me, what with all my race track construction experience (:wink) and all. But, I'm sure they will throw everything they've got at it when the weather permits. I'd be surprised if there aren't some significant performance penalties built into the contract in the event of late completion.
I'm cautiously optimistic about the future at the 'Burg. I'm afraid that it will become a "special events" only venue in time, with many of those events being of little or no interest (wings, lates, etc.) to me. Then again, it's my understanding that they're not building it just for me. If they hop the cushion now, they can't just slip over the bank and drive back on the track down the backstretch. They're likely to bite some concrete. As a sprint car owner friend told me "a $500 wreck is going to become a 2 grand wreck". We shall see. Been frequenting the joint for over 40 years. Will keep the faith and hope for (and expect) the best. :checkered: |

Some people just don't like change. Jerry Spencer mentioned seeing some of the best racing at the "old Kokomo". At one time there was some great racing, but since they reconfigured the track 3-4 years ago you cannot deny it is safer and the racing is absolutely awesome!!
Hopefully Lawrenceburg will turn out that way also. |

Just went down today and several others stopped by including Mr. Rudisell himself. Actually let us walk back and look er over. Theres more done than you think is done and he says they say the track will be race ready by April to him.
Some things told to me were. The two light poles in the center are coming down and four are being built in the infield PLUS two light poles on the back straight like over the grandstand. The place should be one of the best lit and its designed not to interfear with cameras. He said they say the track will be ready but they won't be done (Turn Two grandstands and plaza) That work will continue as can be accomplished. A Hellapad is being constructed incase of severe emergencys. There will be two or three cubbys for the Emergency crew for quck access to accidents. They will be able to focus more on the track itself now that they don't have to water outside the track and the infield and the back road and every place else that stired up dust other than the track The track, After a walk down the grandstand looks just awesome to me, The flagstand is probably 2/3rds down the front straight, The first turn banking starts in section A and even from the concession you won't be able to see the track, You won't be able to see the track from the top of a hauler but a turn three grandstand is being constructed. When all is said and done they should be able to seat about 2 thousand more not including the pit granstand Florence? Close but not quite, The thing about florence is its uphill on the front straight and downhill on the back and 1/2 are banked different than 3/4 and the fact they keep it dry slick is florences whole problem. The MSCS race to me was awesome and that mainly was because we had 2-3 inches of rain the thurs night before it. I understand everyones concerns, Expecially about cost. I hope it isn't as bad as people think it will be in that catagory. I can surely understand hitting the wall costing more than replacing some bars and a axel ect. I just hope you all have fun, Have great racing, Be safe and the fans come in droves to see you. Chuck, super burg fan and not PR guy :) |
Re: New Lawrenceburg Speedway Pics by Eric Dawson
The cost has already happened as it is now $3 more to get in for a regular show. And more $$$ to park on the backstretch. Nice to see you can take a joke Chuck...uh........PR guy!

3 bucks, Still the best entertainment bargain in the buisness and you can bring your own drinks and snacks. A movie cost 10 and add another 12 if you want extras. I got no problem with that if it means they can keep racing. I believe when Im told they don't make a dime on a reg show. Mel used to charge 14 back in the eighties I remember because I was 12 for like four years to get the 12 and under rate of ten. |
