Jacob Wilson Wins Midget Memorial
20 year old Jacob Wilson, driving the Don Moore Music Publications Spike/Klein Ford, won the 20 lap Tom Corcoran Memorial midget feature at 24 Speedway at Logansport, Indiana Saturday night. Wilson, with only 2 previous starts in a full midget, started eighth in the 20 car field. After a red flag on the seventh lap, Jacob took the lead at the halfway point and was never headed.
Thanks go to Clint Wilson for doing such a great job turning the wrenches and to Mike Cray of St. Louis for his virtual advice via the air waves. |

Re: Jacob Wilson Wins Midget Memorial
Thanks! As many of you know, Jake is a first class pavement specialist with the Silver Crown cars and pavement sprints. He won a USAC sprint race at Salem and was on his way to winning the SC race at Phoenix only to have mechanical failure ruin the charge. This kid is talented! I thought it was time to see what he can do on the dirt. He'd been struggling with the "pavement mentality" which he does so well vs. getting thru the corners on a dirt track. In the feature event at 24 Speedway, things just came together for him and he got better and better as the laps went on. Now I've seen some pavement guys struggle for an entire season and then some trying to figure out the dirt. This kid got it together quickly! Congratulations, Jacob Wilson!

Re: Jacob Wilson Wins Midget Memorial
Thanks Don for giving Jacob & Clinton a chance!! Clint was texting us updates, then we got the call...very exciting. I wish Diane & I could have been there. It's really great that over the years you have given so many drivers a chance to drive quality equipment with a quality owner. Look forward to next time!!

Re: Jacob Wilson Wins Midget Memorial
Thanks everyone for the nice comps. I also want to mention my mechanic, Bill Klein, of North Olmsted, OH who is solely responsible for building from the ground up such a fast and reliable engine. Another very talented indivilual who makes everything that I put on the track possible.

Re: Jacob Wilson Wins Midget Memorial
has this track been rebuilt within the last few years? Only been there once but as I remember it seemed too small for full midgets.

Re: Jacob Wilson Wins Midget Memorial
I think it's an eighth of a mile. It's just right for midgets. A racey little joint, nice and wide with some banking. There was a top and a bottom and middle. A little bigger than the Silly Bowl and wider with more banking. Nice lighting too and not much dust. I actually felt somewhat clean after everything was over. LOL It certainly wasn't follow the leader, one groove deal. These are the tracks that need to run midgets more often and stay off of the big ones. This place is all about driver and setup and not about horsepower.
Also $20 pit pass and no entry fee. We ran used tires and there was no stupid tire rule either. Track management even had transponders!!!! |
