NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

Knowone caught JOSH SPENCER in the 67k for the center fold?(or did the mail man forget to read mine this month?)

Maybe because we haven't gotten it yet?

I blame Danny Burton on this :)

For some reason I am usually among the first to get my SC&M but not this month. Good for Josh Spencer to be the centerfold. :thumb

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

Glad to hear others haven't gotten theirs yet either. I was getting worried again. Last month we didn't get ours at all and I had to call S & M and have them send a new one. I was afraid that was the case this month. I guess we'll have to be patient and wait a bit longer.

When I called last month, the man said they mail everyone's mags 'bulk mail' on like the 2nd of each month. Bulk mail is like the last to go out and is according to your individual post office. (or something like that) I may call my post office if I don't see something by next week.

I just know it didn't seem to take this long in the past but maybe I just had more to do so it wasn't as obvious that it came later. I would like to see whoever's in the centerfold soon...

I got my issue today. Normally, I read a thread like this one for about a week after everyone else has theirs, and then mine finally shows up.
I think someone gave Danny B. a gift subscription so he no longer needs to kidnap mine on its way thru Indiana. :rolling

Steve, Chuck, somebody stole MY copy!!!

Any truth to the rumors that Marv Fish was seen skulking about in the Columbus, IN post office parking lot?:thumb

Stacie is correct. SC & M is not first class mail, nor second class, nor even mailed as a periodical. Doug gets a lower rate by sending it bulk rate.

If you move, you need to let them know ASAP, because the magazine will not be forwarded to your new address.

Dwight must have connections that the rest of us don't have.

:D...That will soon be changing, Danny. I am in the process of moving to the west side of Indy area and will have a new mail carrier. On the plus side I will be able to make more frequent visits to Bloomington and Lawrenceburg.:thumb

Maybe you guys all live to close to Ohio. I got mine here in Littleton,CO two days ago. Doug had a tough month with the photo captions, the Darland and Kuhn photos were reversed too. But I'm not complaining, it's 600 miles to the closest non-winged sprint car race, I read SC&M cover to cover and most of the adds to get my fix.:Steer

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

The main problem I've experienced with mags and newspapers is they are usually trashed when I get them.

I can deal with late arrival, but, damn, at least deliver it in one piece.

This is why I've let every subscription expire except for Flat Out and I'll let that expire later this year. They used to put their mags (Flat Out and Dirt Late Model) in plastic wrap and that was great. But, when Three Wide Media took over, the plastic wrap went away and every issue I've received since has been heavily damaged.

Now, I buy my mags at the racetrack or the bookstore. I may pay more, but at least I get a good copy.

The publisher's blame the internet for declining subscriptions. Without a doubt, that has an impact, but I think the damage and late delivery are major causes.

Hell, NSSN is mailed within 90 miles of my home and, it usually arrived 1-2 weeks late. I'd read it at a racetrack 600 miles away and then it would show up in my mailbox two weeks later.

I haven't been welcome in Columbus, IN since I referred to Tony Stewart as "The Rushville Rocket" one time. And, I was never one to "skulk about". I used to "skenck around" some until an irate husband convinced me that it was bad for my health. :action-smiley-049:

Me too, Jerry. Except it didn't arrive today either. Though I did get my copy of Circle Track.

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

It's a double edge sword of sorts. Magazines and newspapers are at the mercy of mid-20th century technology and delivery mechanisms while Internet web sites are almost instantaneous. Magazines and newspapers pummel you with ads while Internet web site's ads can be easily blocked with something like Ad Block Plus which leads the publishers to wonder if its really reasonable to monetize that form of publication at all.

I still think there is a place for both forms of media but, as a magazine and newspaper photographer, I am not foolish enough to think print media will last forever.

For the record Aero, I haven't received my copy of SC&M either and don't expect it for at least a week or two because of my own over-literate mailman problems. :angry-smiley-007:

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

I know that I'm changing horses in midstream so to speak. But I get my Area Auto Racing News published in NJ on Tues within 2 to 4 days out here in the boonies (Payson Az) which is a lot faster than when I lived outside of Boston. It seems to be hit or miss when dealing with the USPS. I am guessing that if you are living further away from the publisher that the postal service is using airmail to get it to you. At least in my case where it would take 2 days to drive from NJ to Az.

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

Mine hasn't arrived yet either. Funny thing is, last month it came about a week earlier than some of my Ohio/Indiana friends did. I had a very long conversation with Doug last month and was quite enlightened on the cost of getting the magazine to us the customer. I sure am excited to see how Jimmy Wilson has been doing.:D

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

We've hashed this out before and will do so again, I'd guess. And for good reason.

As a 20 year postal employee, all I can add right now (before I take the Sword Man, his mom and grandma to brunch) that the USPS treats its employees about the same as it does its customers---with contempt. :censor::thumbsdown:

Danny, you know all too well that folks everywhere, not including me :wink, like to tease the postal employees. We are so overly prone to whine about the delivery service. However, we should also be willing to admit that the sheer volume of mail processed by USPS is staggering!
Grandma Kim does quite a bit of eBay business, which takes me to the Bloomington, Illinois (pop. 65k 2000 census) main post office 6 days most weeks. Most of the employees whose jobs involve dealing with postal customers know me by name. Even the non-union employee from another town's post office, who has been temporarily assigned to "meet and greet" at the APC machine, always has a cheerful, "Hi, Steve" greeting for me on the days when I bypass the APC on my way to the counter to mail international items. I frequently hear employees complaining about how management does things at USPS, and I almost always agree with those things I'm hearing. But you guys have to admit that getting holidays such as National Pickle Day in Albania as one of your paid holidays puts you folks right behind school kids in terms of days off.:rolling

Aha basically a confession that she reads the neighborhood race fans SC&M magazines. I'll have to poll all the neighbors on when our respective magazines arrive. You probably flip quarters every month to decide who isnt getting their magazine for a few days,if ever!

Now if I could just interest you in all the junk mail that comes every week......

The snow is almost gone from the steps. I'll get after my landlord about cleaning them off! You should get different boots though. The first time I saw those footprints,I though some form of Bigfoot was loose in the neighborhood. Then after closer examination,I figured it was a cross between an Irish Wolfhound, and a Manchurian Yak................

Dee 2/26/08 7:16 PM

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

Awe Andrew, I wasn't actually referring to YOUR steps. It was just a frustrated postal employee's gripe in general. I came over last night after work and cleaned your landlady's steps for her - so I don't think she's going to be much help to you. And no, I'm not cleaning yours. ;)

I can honestly say I have NEVER opened up a copy of SC&M out there. I have, however, asked a customer if he knew where I could buy a copy for myself - so there - HAH! :P

As for the hoofprints, uh footprints....you no likey my YakTrax? Trust me, I'll be quite happy when warmer weather prevails and I don't have to wear all of that extra crap!

What you call junk mail, I call job security... ;)

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

You should be glad you dont deliver mail in my old neck of the woods. They have had over 100 inches of snow so far this year. Your bundled up more than the posties at home are,and it isnt even as cold here!!

You should shop for your boots here. Way warm, and you wouldnt put tracks down like bigfoot!!

http://www.llbean.com

You are more than welcome to take my version of your job security home with you and secure it there!!

Oh by the way mine copies have to ttravel a little further than most!!! I am in Australia!!! :D

Re: NEW SPRINT and MIDGET

It's funny that Wobbler the Australian gets his before us in the Indy area....and the mag is mailed out from Indianapolis. (according to the guy at Wheel's up) I called today and reordered mine so I know I'll get it in a couple days. Did the same last month and the regular mag never ever ended up showing up so I figure reordering this month was a good idea. If the same happens next month, I might have to visit the Anderson Post Office to look for the employees that are race fans!
