This is news to me! E.T. Motopark is supposed to start building a 3/8ths dirt track soon, but I've heard nothing about a paved track or a dragstrip.Care to share your sources Duke?

I hope they don't end up naming it X-Plex.

Seen the drawings and plans, and it will be a amazing facility! Hope it continues to progress and break ground in the near future..

I know a bunch of people walkin' around with crossed fingers hoping this comes to fruition. A new dirt AND asphalt track in the valley would be sweet!! :8::32:

Hope it isn't the "Phoen-X-Plex". :17:

Sorry gang. Couldn't resist.

I'm glad to hear that there is plans for new racing in the valley too. Good luck to the project and hope to head back out there for great racing in the future!

I had heard some rumors but nothing for certain. Glad to hear Casey has seen the plans. Sounds like it could be more than a rumor.

The word on the street that I've heard is there are actually two different plans from two different groups in the works. It seems there was an original group of 6 that split up once the design was established. One bad apple in the basket spoiled and 5 of them jumped ship. 3 of those 5 formed a new team. The one bad apple is now trying to make the Mesa deal come together while the new group is negotiating with another City. The new plan with the newly formed group, from what I hear, is much further along and has a real potential of pulling this off. I'm betting on the new group and being a good worm staying away from the bad apple.

Not without me you don't. :2:

I have family out there on the west side. Haven't been out in 12 years and this provides another reason to go.

You sit on the right side of the plane or train and I'll sit in the middle. :3:

Sounds cool. I am glad to hear this.

The new plan with the newly formed group, from what I hear, is much further along and has a real potential of pulling this off. They're waiting for the final approval by the economic development committee and should get the word either way within the next 20 days or so. I hope someone can pull this off but I'm betting on the new group though and being a good worm and staying away from the bad apple who stole the plans from the original group. That just stinks and not a good way to start a venture.

Most times the word on the street is a skewed version of the actual story. The "new group" is trying to get the city of Phoenix to let them build their new facility on city owned land, which happens to be a land fill, in a not so great part of town. The Mesa location, is privately owned land, with interest and support from people with the means and connections to make stuff happen in the Valley of the Sun. I honestly couldnt tell you which will happen or not, and I only have insight into one of them. One way or another I hope to be able to come "home" to race real soon, and I am betting on it happening in the city I was born... time will tell

ASCOT was on a landfill for 50+ years. No problem there. Can you imagine heading from the West side at 4 or 5pm on Friday night and have to deal with the 101 and the 60. You wouldn't be to the track until 6:30. Ouch.

The commute from the west side (goodyear)on 10 was not at all bad going to Manzy, I did it the last two years. most traffic was going the opposite direction. They should do something short track wise out here at PIR.

PittDude 9/12/10 9:50 PM

A friend of mine saw a plan a couple of years ago with a drag strip, a paved oval, 2 dirt oval, bmx track, & a motorcross track to have been built on the indian reservation east of Scottsdale.

But it fell through and now it's the new Spring Training home of the Dbacks.

Re: New tracks in phoenix!

I think the key part of the statement about being built on a landfill is that it was in a "not so good" part of town. Few people want to go to races at a place they fear they might robbed on the way to, or from, the track.

Many things have been built on landfills, including the southern tip of Manhatten. All of the debris from the World Trade Center was landfilled and new expensive high rises built on it. Before that, the southern tip was filled in for several decades in the 1700s and 1800s. Interesting to look at an accurate map of it then and now. It's happened in many places.

As far as the track, I just hope they don't bite off more financially than they can chew and wind up like the X-Plex, or Gateway International. Do it like Baltes did Eldora -- a little bit at a time.

This place has never been a landfill.

Born and raised in Detroit. Better question would probably be, how could I be a Lions fan? Sometimes I have a real hard time answering that one or even figuring out why.

Why not? People went to Manzanita.

"The "new group" is trying to get the city of Phoenix to let them build their new facility on city owned land, which happens to be a land fill, in a not so great part of town."

Manzy was unique. It still doesn't change the fact that many people do not want to go places where they don't feel safe.

cshuman 11/27/10 4:13 PM

Yea, it is a landfill, and there are many proposed ideas for the site, one being a racetrack, one being a indoors snow ski facility. Like I said, not sure if, or when either track will be built. I just know it will be nice to have racing back to what it was around phoenix. I know the track in mesa/gateway area, if built, will be the nicest facility you have ever seen..

Casey, are you saying that ET is a landfill?

cshuman 11/27/10 7:25 PM

No, I was speaking of the site in phoenix, not far from manzy, have heard very little about ET... and like I said Bojo, I don't know IF either will ever happen, I just know there are people on both sides trying hard to make it happen.. and I've seen plans for one that is a amazing concept.. time will tell boys
