Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
We always go. I hope they have the peanut covered nutty bars(ice cream bars) in the grandstands. Those are a tradition. I usually ruin a few teeth on one of those as they are some how frozen hard as a rock.
We also ride the tram around the fair a few times to catch up on whats happening with southern Illinois culture. I haven't seen anyone go over the ski jump in a few years. I can also tell if interest is up for the SIU Salukis basketball team by the number of people wearing basketball t-shirts. I always like looking at the vintage sprint/dirt cars if they are on hand. The Elder car is usually there. The race since being held at night is always great. Not that it wasnt good in the afternoon, but it is especially good at night. Always someone coming from way in the back to make it exciting. If you haven't gone, GO. |
Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
What is the best way leaving from Indy? This will be my first trip to Duquoin and from the sound of things it won't be my last. :6:

Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
We're are pulling out in 5 minutes with the camper for the 5.5 hour drive to Du Quoin. Should get there in time to see the mule show over at the horse pavillion. Hopefully our favorite spot over in the non-hook-up camping area is vacant, but even if it isn't there's a lotta' room for an alternative spot. Gonna' go over to Rend Lake tomorrow and do some fishin' and boatin' and have a couple of beers, not necessarily in that order.
We look forward to this trip more every year. Our first year there was 1994 and I have no idea why we never went before that but we surely should have. Looks like we could get some rain on Thursday into Friday but the weekend looks great. Got tickets for a couple of the grandstand shows as well so it should be a great time. All of you who make the trip to Du Quoin be safe and have a great time!!! |

Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
Looking for a good turn-out of open wheel vintage racers. We had the best of intentions at Springfield.
Tried to save the Saturday morning by stopping by Jungle Jims, could not find it! Not easy to look for an address while towing a trailer. Look us up at DuQuoin, the white number two, champ car replica. Used to run the St. Louis area as a center steer , winged, modified back in the early 90's. We converted it to a champ car look -alike because we were raised on Springfield, Little Springfiled and DuQuoin. With help from Danny Frye Sr., Joe Saldana fuel tanks, and Al Prueitt fibreglass, she turned out ok. DuQuoin on Sunday and Terre Haute on September 11. Stop by and check in, tell a few lies, it's just racing. David J. Kovac, St. Louis, Mo. |

Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
I am really looking forward to Duquoin. As a kid I was crazy for Champ Cars and the Indianapolis 500.
My Dad was not a fan, but in the early sixties he did take me to a champ car race at Duquoin. I will remember details of that great day forever. This year I will return and be twisting wrenches for Randy Bateman. I will get to experience the race from "the other side of the fence". Very cool! It would be very cool to meet some IOW'ers also. I will be the guy that looks like me in the photos in my 2006 - 2008 album. :2: https://www.indianaopenwheel.com/album.php?albumid=189 |
Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
I'll be there again, havent missed one in over 20 years and since im only 28, its a record that could become a good one in a few years. I'll be there driving a gentleman from Bunker Hill Il. 's yellow number 86 modified as well as possibly giving my 2011 Silver Crown car owners vintage entry a cruise around the magic mile. My favorite time of the year, Im really looking forward to it. see ya all there......

Re: Whose goin to Duquoin
Johnny Heydenreich will be there in the Sharon Bank #90 sponsored by Superior Tank & Trailer and CoolFitWear.com.
The engine was sounding like she was ready to roll from 1-1/2 weeks ago when we were prepared for Springfield... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMjwifWXDPw Unfortunately, the only thing that got to rock and roll at Springfield was the truck and trailer! Sharon http://www.CoolFitWear.com |
