I remember the one and only WoO race I went to at Eldora in '78, MOST of the cars had wings, but a few did not. I think Roger Rager ran without one among others. Anybody know for sure? Nic pic though. |

Re: Kenny Schrader
Anybody know who owned that car? Stapp? Big guess on my part. I have no idea really.
I like the Firestone Drag 500 tires on it.:6: |

Re: Kenny Schrader
That car was owned by Ray Marler who co-owns I-55 in Pevely now with him.

Re: Kenny Schrader
I think it may be the 1977 nationals. There is a trailer in the picture which I think belonged to Siebert Olds. As I remember it was the first time some one brought a sprint car in a major enclosed trailer. Eddie Leavitt drove the Siebert #9 at the nationals. The car next to Kenny is the #40 R&H Farms car. I think this 40 car was new as the #40 that won the nationals was a Beck car.
Was the Marler car a former Pancho Carter car? I remember the 4 was sort of a robins egg blue color. |

This car was the powder blue 4c Stapp 4-bar. The c stood for Cook, as in Dean Cook, who owned the engines in Pancho's #4 usac car and Marlar's unofficial "outlaw" car. This was in 1979, in 77 and 78 Marlar had a white #14 Maxwell car that everyone from Chuck Amati and Tom Corbin to Gene " Tubby" Black, and finally Schrader drove. Marlar offered the car to me after the first Busch Clash at Eldora at the end of 79 for $2900 as a complete kit. In 1980 Marlar and Schrader broke out the season on a brand new Gambler, painted like Danny Smiths house car except it has Marlar Music down the side instead of Kenny Rogers. I called Kenny tonight about this picture and we reviewed our facts as we best could remember and he simply couldn't recall everything even as well as I did......but allowed that many Budwiesers have been consumed since then.
