Manzy Update

I just heard that Soutwest Crane & Rigging (the company that bought Manzy) has filed for bankruptcy. I don't know if it's true or not.

Flat as a board. Doing a little bit of mining at the east end. Was by there yesterday.

A friend called this morning and told me... I don't know where he heard it from.... So right now its only a rumor. I would like to know if it's true.

That would really suck. Reminds me of the closing of Baylands Raceway in Fremont CA. The grand plans for that piece of land never seemed to materialize, and they closed a great facility.

David, I have to agree, everytime I say the word Manzy I just want to cry and I miss going there. From everything I have ever heard they only had one crane parked there. It never did make sense to me why someone would pay the kind of money we heard they bought the track for to park cranes on it. This news if true makes me even sicker than the news of it being sold in the first place. What a loss of a great race track!

Or is this the Phoenix version of the Okie City shuffle, only slicker because it doesn't make the politicos look like the bad guys?

Re: Manzy Update

If this is all true then I would say the sale to the crane company was a back door deal to get the track closed. I have seen deals like this before the group that wants the place has leverage over a company that owes them money. So in all reality the company doing the buying has no money and is just a face of the purchase. Then when the deal is done and everybody is not looking the company that bought it goes belly up and the real buyer slides in to save the day and gets the property. Don't be surprised when this all comes out in the wash that it ends up being a INSIDE DEAL to just get rid of the place.

I love that term, and it is so true. Wouldn't be so bad if didn't insult our intelligence.

Same thing happened to Ascot. That property sat for years with no development. It is really a shame that things like this occur. :15:

Ascot actually would have been developed right away. However, it was built on a dump. Once they started digging, they found out they would have to dig down 20 feet and remove all of it if they planned on putting up any larger buildings. The building on the turn one and two (south side) of the property was (may still be) sinking.

Therefore the property sat vacant for a long time before becoming a huge salvage yard. Interesting story. A couple years ago, I had the news on and was paying half attention when a story was talking about a salvage yard getting busted for selling cars that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. They were selling them without the advising the buyers of the damage. It was the salvage yard built on Ascot.

I remember we raced mx at Ascot after they stopped running the oval track.and I think they tore that bldg down that was sinking. I remember a friend of mine moving out of his office there. Real sad but big money was behind that deal.

As you can probably guess by my screen name,I took this whole closure deal VERY personal. So,it is my hope, wish and prayer for any and all parties involved in this debacle, that Hell is turned up another 100 degrees the day before they arrive there! (But I'm not bitter! :15:)
Pissed off all over again in AZ,

It was home away from home after NARC put on the tops, Calistoga (wings sucks) deal. Then those cheap tires couldn't take 30 laps of racing after that. Sills would run out of fuel all the time, it was just awful racing.

Yes, we would stop by and say hi to Keith, all the time. Why would we go to Manzy? He would just smile at us and give us a wave. It's what we want to see! Later on Keith would come over in turn three and we would talk a while.

Now we have Labor day weekend at Calistoga, just wish the track was worked up like the old days.

Joe
