And finally, go back and read the car counts for the two midget races held last Saturday night in Belleville, IL and Burlington, Iowa and that will answer the question of who wants to race where in the United States. |
Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
I'm puzzled too, Don, as to why this offer doesn't interest you.
As to car counts last Saturday (36-38 at Belleville, and only 18 in Iowa), what does that have to do with Sun Prairie? The first night of IMW there was over 60 Midgets competing at 2 tracks on a WEDNESDAY NIGHT for christ's sake. And by your choice (which I respect, by the way) you hauled past Gas City to run Brownstown, IL with the much-maligned POWRi series. Now young Mr. Wilke is offering AMCT first place money just to be the top non top-fifteen USAC finisher.....for 2 nights....at the same track.:18: You're confusing us Donald. |

It was, I am sure aimed at some of the badger folks who used to run there but I dont see why you couldnt travel there and try to get some of those $ too. isnt this sort of thing what you have been looking for. Instead of trying to berate me why dont you rationally explain why you wouldnt go there this weekend. |
Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
This will be interesting to see if this brings any Badger guys back to their old stomping grounds. It might help for Sunday's car count.

I made plans and reservations months ago to go camping over the 4th of July in West Virginia so there's no chance of my race team showing up anywhere in the US. I can only transport one race car to a track at a time unless someone else makes advanced plans to transport a second car which was the case at Montpelier with Geoff Kaiser. I very seldom run two race cars. It's way too expensive. Is that a surprise? I live about 500 miles from Angell Park. I have to travel thru Chicago to get there and that's a nightmare plus $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in tolls, plus fuel $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. The western portion of the Indiana Toll Road and the approach to the bridges in Chicago are some of the worst highways in the US. It beats my motorhome, trailer and contents to death. I love watching the midgets at Angell Park as a spectator. As a car owner, the track is brutal on midgets. Ask anyone who races there regularly and they will tell you the same thing. It's a track that is almost round in configuration and drivers run it wide open most of the time. We blew an engine there several years ago and it cost a bundle to repair. If you have a new generation Esslinger or Fontana, you are racing at the right place. Otherwise, if you don't, you're wasting your money, IMO, against the USAC multimillionaires. And I didn't drive by Gas City to race at Brownstown, IL. I was on the road for 4 races in Illinois and Indiana for a week prior to the Brownstown event. Three of them were rained out. Again 500 miles from my home. It was a costly adventure with very little return for expenses.... $125 was the take. That's a few thousand dollars lost there for being away from a business and paying expenses on the road, preparation and everything that goes with it. And finally, both of you need to reread the CW press release. It specifically says for USAC cars/drivers out of the top 15. I'm not a member of that club and am not interested in competing against teams that, for example, have 22 race cars in their shop, own an engine company, and have millions of dollars at their disposal to outspend anyone in the country. Contrary to what some of you think, owners just can't show up at race tracks at the snap of a fan's fingers. It just doesn't work that way. Walk in the shoes of a car owner for a few weeks and you'll get the picture quickly. I would appreciate it if you would not come on a public message board and start disciplining car owners such as myself as to where we choose to race. This is a very expensive sport. What may seem like a sweet deal to a fan in the stand is not necessarily a sweet deal to a car owner. There's a lot more to it than just showing up somewhere to race. Don Moore LaGrange, OH |
Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
This bonus is open to ALL cars, NO USAC MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED!
Thanks! I feel the car count to be 20-25 Saturday, and 25-30 Sunday, of course this is just an estimate. Come out to the track it will be a good time! |
Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
Don, maybe it's the age thing, but I read, it like you read it, 4 times, now it says you don't have to be a USAC competitor, or did I just have a senior moment? Bob

Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
Actually the advertisement could be read either way, thus should have been more exact, but now we know.
I love any post that Don is involved with just to get another view, although I agree 50/50 usually. I for one agree that this would have been more effective if it was announced much earlier to allow teams not already going time to plan. That is what the extra purse is intended to do, bring out teams that weren't already planning to come, but on a holiday weekend most already have other plans. For me though, part of the challenge is to compete with the deep pockets and beat them with much less, that is fun! That is part of this sport, has always been, and will always be. |
Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
In fairness to CW Promotions this deal was just announced about a week or so back. In fairness to Don I want to say that as a fan I deeply appreciate it when ANY car owner decides to spend a bunch of their money for my entertainment.

I am posting the top 5 Don Moore IOW rules. Remember them and be able to say them in your sleep.
1. No off topic statements - ever - in any post you make. Not even a little. We are not here to have fun people. 2. No stalking. You know who you are. This is a punishable offense. 3. Do not ask him anything about his reasons for going racing or not going racing. That is too personal. 4. Do not respond in a positive manor about the purple tire company, USAC, engine builders, officials or any other serious professional racing enterprises/endeavors. 5. Don Moore is always correct and you have no idea about anything racing related, regardless of who you are or how much experience you have in this business. :17::17::17: P.S. - I forgot one - you must improve your reading comprehension skills or face stiff penalties. |

Every time I read Don post "Off topic! Off topic!" I get the mental imagery of Gomer chasing Barney hollering "Citizen's AhREST Citizen's AhREST !"
Yeah I know, that's some stupid off topic nonsense. Sorry. |
Re: C.W. Promotions sweetens the deal for Jul
:29: Don, are you telling us Buckwalter and Cottle won midget week races with high buck teams? Give us a break. You can now grade my post but that might be stalking me. Please say hi to your puppies, I hope they are not as bitter as you are.

Tim, I am sure not going to rip on you but I really doubt there will be any Badger teams there Saturday. Maybe a few on Sunday but this is the time of the season when budgets are getting pretty stretched, plus some of them will no doubt run up at the Sue Thiel Classic on Friday. I think its absurd how folks get on here and abuse a team owner who spends more money than he will ever make racing midgets just because he loves the sport. Just because an owner doesn't run every race I'd like them to is no excuse for me to criticize them. Maybe some of those folks should try running a midget operation for a year, and run at every event I demand they run. I just don't get it.

Robbie Ray has been a good APS supporter and I could see him being there on Saturday and Sunday. I could also see Mike Hess there on Sunday as he has run some USAC shows already this year. After racing on Friday and Saturday I wouldn't blame the BADGER racers if they took Sunday off.
