Terre haute action track ( rumor )
Heard this morning from a pretty reliable source that terre haute action track will be promoted by the oconnor`s who also promote the kokomo speedway.
This is supposed to happen starting with sprint week. If this is true :6: :6: |
Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I'am sure that anybody with a little common sence whould do a better job!:14::15:

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
good luck if their is a new promotor

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I wonder if they'll stop allowing you to bring in food or drink. I was not allowed to take in a styrofoam cup of ice water at Kokomo.

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
If this happens. Terre Haute will be VERY blessed. This track will be AWESOME once again!!

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
We wouldn't want the tracks to go broke , got too get ya for a couple of dollars for a .25 bottle of water and $3.00 for a COKE , The american way . Get that last dollar from them if ya can . :22: tracks should let ya bring your water and pop in if you want to . I can't afford to bring people with me and the grandkids want want want and you spend $75.00 dollar on a shirt and pop and snacks and you have to pinch pennies for a week . If people stop doing it the prices would drop , you shouldn't be forced in to spending a bunch of money at the track because you have kids and don't want to go hungry at the track for 7 hours . And its not just race tracks its that way in all of Sports . way out of hand. Its are fault for letting it get this way . were the ones wasting that hard earned cash. :10:

If the racing is good who cares about a bottle of water!

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I'd gladly give them 2 bucks for a bottle of water if they do for Terre Haute what they've done for Kokomo.

Bloomington lets you bring in food and drink and coolers right? Totally different property layout. I may be wrong but I think there have been tracks that used to allow coolers and other things but not allowing it so much anymore. I think Gas City is just one that used to allow coolers, then they only allowed under certain dimensions, then no coolers at all. |
Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
You see tracks vary in what you can bring in and what you can't bring in as far as if the track has a liquor license or not but when it comes to Indiana state law things still vary and that's not right. All tracks should have the same carry in policy weather they have a license to sell alcohol or not.

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I had a discussion with a member of the O'Conner family about running it , at the last race at the Action Track. The interest is there, but they also realize the amount of work involved in running it.If they do run it, I wouldn't be surprised.
It is their perogitive on concessions, but with the economy the way it is, if you can't bring in a cooler at THAT, it will kill the infield. The infield is for the working class, which is shrinking daily. They can't afford the $2 water or coke, but they will buy a ticket. They will look for value with their entertainment money, and if they can't afford it, they'll spend it somewhere else. |

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
The bottom line is that a track has to bring in a certain amount of money each night to make it float - and that number is directly relative to the amount of expenses. So, some tracks let you bring in coolers but maybe they skimp on something else, like a purse, or facility paint, or website or something else.
I'm a car owner, not a promoter.. but here we are on a thread about a track that hasn't been able to make it financially for awhile, already griping about potential revenue streams to make it float. As a car owner, I have about a $500 nut to crack every night - and I think that's bad. But the promoter has a $20,000 or more nut to crack. If that nut doesn't get cracked there isn't a track for me to race at. For some reason we want to be able to go watch racing and pay $2 to get in, bring our own food and drink, pay $10 pit passes and expect the track to pay $5000 to win just because the promoter owes it to us as racers or race fans. Yet we have no problem walking into a movie and dropping $30, or the chain restaurant for a night out for $50, or my corner bar and dropping $20 without griping about it. A track probably needs to make about $15-$20 profit in the grandstands to crack that weekly nut and show a fair return on the investment and risk. Whether that $15 profit comes from a $10 admission and over-priced food and beer, or $15 admission and letting you walk in with your own drinks really doesn't matter. What matters is that enough revenue was generated to make the show work out financially. I bet there are a lot of fans with nearby tracks that are closed that wish they would have willingly paid that extra $2 admission for a special show or bought that bag of popcorn. A race track is a business - we might care more about the business than a different business in town - but it's a business and I don't begrudge a promoter trying to make a buck at it.... Unless I'm willing to step up and cover the losses on a week he doesn't. |
Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
Lets just support our tracks the best we can...I will even pitch in an extra dollar at the concession stand just to make sure we still have a place to go watch the cars we love. Last time I checked there are no sprint car races at the local grocery store or mini mart so unless you bottle your own soda or beer you are giving your hard earned money to someone, why not Kokomo Speedway. By the way, whoever preps the track at kokomo is awesome and THAT can really benefit from that crew!

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I don't begrudge a promoter on concessions, that's where the money is at. With the tight economy though , fans will go where the perceive they can get the most bang for the buck. For a promoter that fine line is like balancing on the edge of a razor blade, and it is no where I want to be.

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I say we wait to see what the details are, before we start debating problems that haven't even happened yet. The one thing everybody knows for sure is that even though the place has been promoted better than it has been in a long time, the track prep has been woefully inadequate. And the O'Connors are very good at that. The racing quality will take a step up. That much we know.
Chris is spot on about the infield, though. Jerry |
Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
talked to Oconners son at kokomo tonite and he said they were giong to promote the sprint week show only.

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
We are all spoiled. What place can you go and carry in your own food and beer? Baseball,Football,Basketball, Hockey,Concerts,Amusement Parks? I don't know of any. I went to a minor league baseball game a couple of weeks ago to watch a game that is not even affilated with any Major League team and you bought their refreshments. I might add though that they had a 25 cent hot dog night. I'm sure someone in their promotion department got a heck of a deal on the hot dogs as there were large signs advertising whose brand of hot dog it was and several announcements over the speakers talking about the brand.
With the exception of Lawrenceburg and Dave Rudisell having specials like that I can't think of any tracks that do that. This is one area that most tracks are lacking in a big way. You have to PROMOTE something special. I have to commend Terre Haute for offering the family infield package. More promoters need to realize that because a guy with 2 or 3 kids can't afford to go to the races. I sometimes wonder if they are satisfied with the crowds they get. Ever wonder why every restaurant around is offering a deal these days....to get some people in the place. Tim Wolffrum aka Cowboy |

Anyone know for sure if the promoter or the fair board has control of, and receives any profits from, the concessions at Terre Haute?

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
Concessions..ticket prices...overhead...$$$$$ it's what it's about....some tracks seem to want more then others...your HARD earned dollars...the HARD CORE fan is gonna come regardless of price but the tracks are failing at the family end of it...I understand about coolers but some people like me have certain things they like (diet caffeine free soda). Most individuals or two buddy's that go to the track do not bother to bring in a cooler but your family man with his wife and kids needs a cooler...limit the size as the did in NASCAR...with only a six pack cooler EVERYBODY wins...you can only put so much in it and before heat races are done most likely so is the cooler...then people have no option...they have to go to the concession stand...to FILL the stands you have to help people out...we have a promoter down here that has went to $10 a carload....yep you heard it $10.00 and he had STANDING ROOM ONLY...sold out of beer and most everything else in the concession and he still aloud coolers of any size..some promoter do not have the in site to help out the fan in this time of need but you need to compete against everything else and make your event the most economical one to come to...
again the hard core fan is gonna come..promoters need that high school/college date...something to the fact of if you show me a student ID you and your date get in free..(they are not going to bring in a cooler)...the more you put in the stands the more the word is gonna get out..which equals FREE advertisement....."man what some good racing at the track this weekend"...PACK THE STANDS AND YOU WILL SUCCEED :22: |

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I haven't heard of the O'conners, but have heard that a certain promoter that can run a track has expressed interest in running THAT. I can't mention the name of the person I heard it from (as I talked to this person at some place where I didn't ask a name) or am I not going to mention the name of the promoter. But if this promoter does take it over, it will be a good thing.

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
Each track needs to do what it needs to survive. However.
The bring in policy often is in the decision if I come or not. I usually just bring drinks and buy what food I want at the track. Many families would opt to bring in a bucket of chicken, sandwich material, Whatever. I CAN TOTALLY SEE THIS. Its the difference in a night at the track with the fam costing 60-70 bucks or 100-150, Most of them buy a few funnel cakes or nachos anyway but that family isn't going to be there EVERY WEEK on the No Carry in policy. Great American Ball park in Cincy does allow Food and drink brought in (No GLASS) Whats ironic is go through the front gate, *Can I see inside your jacket?" No carry in food or drink. But buy a pit pass and see every hauler have a line of coolers down the side. Thats not right, I don't care who you are. Friendly to the racers , shake down the fans? What if that crew had to pay a extra 100 bucks a night just to eat and drink? I go to bloomington and see three times as many KIDS at the track as any other track I've been too. I see a concession line that never lets up, I see people that have gone for years and years and their kids who've now grown up bringing their kids, Some spend more at the track, some don't. THEY ALL BOUGHT A TICKET, They all WILL BE BACK, They all think its a great value for the $$$ Take that 46 dollar show for the family and now make it $150. They may come, They may not! Most arent going to be there EVERY WEEK. I know I definately find things friendlier and *ACTUALLY SPEND MORE AT A TRACK* when things are deemed by me to be friendly and affordable I guess the story here is, Support your tracks, AS OFTEN AS YOU CAN AFFORD TOO, Most would want to be able to AFFORD TO AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE :) |

Re: Terre haute action track ( rumor )
I don't think you have to worry about any change in the concessions. The Fair Board controls & gets the money from the concessions not the track promotor.
This was from a very good source. and it wasn't Shortbus. |
