'94 Little 500 - Robbie Stanley Question

We all know that the loss of Robbie Stanley was big time painful in May of '94. But I have a question about the Little 500 that year. Robbie qualified the Contos car I think 4th. Jason McCord took over the driving duties for the Little 500 after Robbie lost his life two days before. Does anybody know if McCord was able to start the car in the qualified position or did he start at the back of the pack due to the driver change? Thanks.

Gregg,

If memory serves me correctly, and much of the time that is questionable :3:, I would have thought that he had to go to the back of the field due to the driver change. However, looking at the results on the Anderson Speedway website, it shows him starting in the 6th position the same as Robbie qualified the car.

Now why didn't I think to look at the Anderson Speedway website?:10: Thank you. I see that the race was still an ASA event back then. Maybe they had different rules about (not) sending cars to the back?

I was at Winchester that night and it sickened me like you can't imagine.

Gregg,

I was really upset because at the last minute I couldn't go to Winchester because I had to work. After hearing the news, I was so glad that I missed that race. A terrible tragedy for sure.:13:

The car did not go to the tail and indeed resume the same position Stanley qualified in.

Agreed. I have witnessed a few and wished I hadn't. Not knowing them on a personal level doesn't seem to help me either. The track worker at Anderson Speedway that was killed during the Little 500 still brings tears to my eyes.:13:

I remember a couple of things about that night, 1 it was the first time I had seen a driver soluted like that. 2 even with 33 sprint cars on the track, the place was silent for a lap or 2. I was still pretty young then and did not know Robbie. Denny Adams did an excellent job that night filling everyone in. The people that sat next to us knew him personally and shared several stories. I do not think the car went to the back, but I can not remember.
