On the radar, it looks like rain in that area.

sprinthead 6/10/10 7:40 PM

Re: La Salle updates

According to weather underground radar, the rain is just missing the track. The edge of the rain is at the intersection of I-80 and I-39.

It's too bad that they didn't get more cars for this deal. :(

Man,that was a close call. I'm guessing that's about 2 miles. Did your dad go tonight?

Yes he left at 6:30. Yes it was close!

illiNOISE 6/10/10 8:13 PM

With the threat of rain, we elected to just get the show on the road and run heats with passing pts.

Re: La Salle updates

Nick bilbee not making the a main call. Damage from the heat race sidelines him. Broke a valve cover and says they are heading home to indy tonight.

Many thanks to Jackslash for the information from LaSalle for those of us that couldn't go.

Re: La Salle updates

If this place had nonwing sprints on a weekly basis, we would soon be talking about it in the same breath as Kokomo and Tri-State. Wide, high-banked, excellent preparation, large grandstands and huge parking lot, sky boxes all along the top of the grandstands, excellent PA system with an announcer who knows how to announce, clean restrooms, food on both ends of the grandstand, a couple of miles from the north-south interstate and perhaps 4 miles from east-west, and probably other good things I am leaving out. Really hope they have more nonwing sprints here.

Re: La Salle updates

I agree with Frank. This place is begging for a big non winged event. USAC, TNT or something. The place is just a gem. And it's big enough for any event you would want to have there. It kind of reminded me of a cleaner looking, more accessible version of North Vernon. To give you an idea of the parking lot size, for those of you old enough to remember, it used to be the lot for an old drive-in theatre. The screen is even still there, at the back of it. The next decent looking sprint or midget show they schedule and I'm definitely back there. It's just that cool of a facility.

As far as the racing went, at first it looked like the bottom was the place to be, as Shuman led the first half from there, but when top runner Terry Babb moved it up a little bit higher than he was already running, he found what he was looking for and took off like a rocket. It was almost like watching one of those Daron Clayton wins, as he began to check out. The real drama was watching Terry crash the cushion lap after lap, playing with fire as he was coming so close to the wall. And it was really neat watching him lifting the left front up or doing a nice little wheel stand, each time he rocketed off of turn two. Nobody had anything for him, even though Shuman, Johnson, Weyant, Hud and others tried.

Again, there's a lot of room to race on this track and a lot of seats to watch it all from. I went there thinking there probably wasn't going to a real high car count, but at least I was going get to see a different kind of track, right in the middle of Late Model country. And luckily the track and the racing both exceeded my expectations. Even with not the highest car count.

Now on to the event I've been looking forward to ever since it was rescheduled. USAC Midgets and Illinois Sprint Week sprints @ Granite City!!

Jerry
