USAC at ORP

USAC schedule shows sprint cars at O'Reily Raceway Park this Thursday June 10. Was wondering has there has been any advertising in the Indy area about this race? I know most people on IOW are dirt fans, but I haven't seen anything about this race at all. Is this race even going to happen?

Good question Cowboyhar69, I have the same question about the USAC Silver Crown race at Oswego in August. Even my contacts that work in the Oswego Speedway office have no idea if that race will happend once again just like last year they don't have a signed contract yet. My best advise to you would be to call the USAC office or ORP to find out about that race. I have never found USAC to do much advance advertising for any of there races I have attended.

I think it is USAC's viewpoint that the advertising is the promoter's responsibility

The race is on O'Raceway Parks oval schedule.
http://www.oreillyracewaypark.com/ap...808&zoneid=150
And I think they mentioned the Sprint Car race over the PA at the Night B4 the 500.

How is this wrong? They are the PROMOTER for a reason, to PROMOTE the race. USAC is a sanctioning body.

Re: USAC at ORP

Keith,

When you click on the schedule on the track website, it shows this race and also Thursday night July1 for USAC sprints. When you click on the ticket info all that comes up is the night before the 500 midget and the Sliver crown race on July 22. How's someone suppose to know what the ticket prices are or anything else about this race? Is USAC promoting this race themselves?

not being involved is not working for usac or its members!they need to take charge and promote and advertise! doing nothing is not working.

Exactly, it is hard for the promoter or local track to advertise who is going to be there to race if they have no contact or information from the sanctioning body. In the case of the Oswego race the rumor mill tells me they have no one to promote that race, I will be pleasantly surprised if I get to see the Siver Crown cars run at the track I grow up at for the second year in a row. I am hoping!!!! Also hope ORP runs a USAC sprint car race this Thursday, can never get the need for a pavement fix out of my blood, it's how I grew up.

I thought that USAC could not find a promoter for ORP so they are promoting the events at ORP themselves. So this makes even less sense for USAC to not advertise.

USAC is watching. Just got an email from them for this race. Tix are $20.

Wow...Amazing comment, HEAD. I'm just flabbergasted at that logic...

Makes you wonder what the mindset there at USAC really is...That's really not USAC's thinking, is it?

The only logic to gather from this is that it must be a supreme privilege for any promoter to host USAC. The race promoter's responsibility must be to do ALL the promotion; fill the stands; and (wait for it) pay a premium purse for absolutely little to no effort from USAC.

Hhhhmmmm....Race promotion definitely is a rewarding job, huh? :17: :17:

Re: USAC at ORP

They must be the promoter for those ORP races because they already have it scheduled to be videocasted on their site. usually they wait until an hour or so before the event to reveal that they are videocasting the race. I am going since it is only 5 minutes from home but I doubt the crowd will be very big.

Re: USAC at ORP

That's the middle man's reward, they just broker the event, and take their cut, everything else is left up to the poor promotor/track owner, keeps them outa "harms way", makes sense to me, I could do that! Bob

Goodguys Hot Rod Show is this weekend Fri-Sun at ORP as well. Maybe some early birds to that show will stop by on Thursday night. If you have a Goodguys ticket, it is $10 off for the USAC Sprint show.

Wouldn't it be the job of the promoter to promote the event, hence the name promoter?

if the promoter is not promoting the thing it is in the best intrest of usac to do so to save the event and better the orginazation

Re: USAC at ORP

I got the answer to this yesterday by calling ORP. When I asked about this race I was told to call back Tuesday as the person that handles this was off work Monday. I was told they received another call asking about this race and they didn't have any info on it on any of the flyers they had. I then asked a simple question....Was USAC renting the track and USAC was promoting it themselves? I was told Yes. I don't have a problem with that at all. Just seems like someone would have gotten the word out before 3 days before the race.

Re: USAC at ORP

and not to repeat myself to many times, but it's also a HARF night, so 1/2 price tickets to all HARF members and free parking to all. also again 465 southbound to Crawfordsville Rd. is closed, so if you're coming from the north, take I74 west to Ronald Reagon Pkwy, the left to 136, then left to ORP, its a better route anyway.
and 1 more thing, and just my humble opinion, can't we just be happy to have a USAC sprint car show to go to on a Thursday night? they always put on a great show at ORP and i hope its as exciting as the old Thursday Night Thunder shows we used to have. i'll be there, bob.

We paid for parking at the Night Before the 500, and between the two of us it cost us 2.50 each!! Let me tell you that the show was well worth it, and since we get to bring in our own coolers, no problem for me at all. Give and take, but the show is priceless. Sprints and midgets on pavement are awesome!!!:22:

I am a California transplant and excited to see my first ever sprint race on pavement. What time does it start, can you bring in food & beverage? Any suggestions for a first timer to ORP? I used to love the Thursday night Thunder shows so can't wait to see it live.

Of course after moving down a couple of posts on the forum I came across the USAC post with start times. Still would like to know if I can bring my own food and drink to offset the ticket cost.

should be a good crowd with the hot rod people in town. i would not miss a usac event at IRP if i lived near Indy. I believe who ever promotes the event should do the promotional stuff. USAC still puts on great shows. just wish i had a boat load of money to throw around at some of these events like the strawberry king.
