Most successful dirt track?

what dirt track would you consider to be the most succussful? taking car counts, fan attendance, promotion, special events so on and so on into consideration.........

Re: Most successful dirt track?

Unless you're limiting the choices to Indiana tracks, I'd have to think Eldora is near the top of the "success" stack. Wingers would likely disagree....see Knoxville and Williams Grove.

The one at the chili bowl........it only has to run once a year, brings in drivers from different types of racing and all over the world, makes the promoters a crap load of money and everyone talks about it all year long

Knoxville and Williams Grove are on the top of the list for sure. I'd add Pevely to the list too. Like it or not you also have to include the dirt tracks by the NASCAR tracks like Lowes and Taladaga.

Nationally... Eldora - Anybody remember the MOPAR MILLION... nonwingers, wingers, late models... Just about covers it.

Indiana... Lawrenceburg, basically because no other track in Indiana has the facilities this place does. Terre Haute has to be up there because of it's history.

Absolutely Eldora.

Knoxville is struggling with very poor attendance at their weekly shows. This has has been the case for the last several years to the point that the Des Moines register reported (incorrectly though) a year or two ago that they would drop the weekly program.

I might define "success" a little differently. To me, success isn't necessarily defined in terms of profit margain. If a track pays for itself, the racing is good, and the racers and fans are having fun, then that's success. JMO

Based on illiNoise standards and adding longevity you would have to consider Angell Park

A successful dirt track to me is one that never has a low car count. Stands are always full or near it and actually makes money. Whats that track out east that runs on thursdays?

Probably the most successful IN dirt track to me would be brownstown and I cant understand why. The track itself is nothing special at least it wasn't last time I went, (Hard Slick huggy pole) But its the place to race if you wanna be a LM driver.

Overall it has to be Eldora. If you like dirt racing, they pretty much bring it all there. With or without fenders.

Paragon ranks up there to me. They don't pay much, but the car count is huge. Obviously they are doing something right so the pay must not be a huge issue.

Tri-State Speedway, Haubstadt, Indiana is at the top of the list on all counts. One of the nations best or the best. The Helfrichs have worked hard to promote races and make a exciting facility to race on. It seems alot of the sprint car fans still have their heads buried in the sand when they do not recognize they quality of racing at Tri-State.

Eldora and Knoxville seem to have it all. As of the last 6 or so years I would pick the dirt at Knoxville over the dust they can't seem to control at Eldora (maybe they don't want to.) Perris, Gas City and Manzanita. I think all in all that Eldora is the most successful.:nonwingfan::checkered:

If by sucess I assume you mean $. I would bet Eldora, Knoxville, and Williams Grove make more money than all the other dirt tracks combined.

Re: Most successful dirt track?

do you think that with the payout for those tracks and only running a couple different classes of cars that they are making more money than keith ford at paragon? 60 or so sprint cars every week, 30-40 bombers every week, 20-30 street stocks every week at $25/person, and some of those stock car guys bring 5 or 6 people for every car........and for a regular weekly deal he is packing them in the grandstands and even more for the special events (KISS, fireworks, stock car specials, and sprint car specials)! i know everyone likes to bang on paragon, but i believe very strongly that keith has a niche that will never be duplicated, and he is laughing all the way to the bank! i think that his format shows great entrepreneurship............

Re: Most successful dirt track?

The one that, given a choice, you go to on race night. HOpefully, they are making a buck... In these parts, I;d say Eldora has to be in a class by itself. Terre Haute and The Hawkeye for the big tracks... Tri State has a lot of history but no more than Bloomington... Jiggs and those guys have got a lot to be Proud of over the last few years.... Kamp is starting to be a ShowPlace with Great Racing every night.... As for a Great Track, Paragon has got that old fashion, run what ya brung feel that you have to love.... Brownstown seems to get most of the LateModel votes that the Big E dozent......As for Loyalty.....Thats easy, Has to be anyone who goes to Putnamville... I have seen some of the very best racing there is at LPS... YOu have to love racing to go to Put in any capacity but the Fact is, they may cuss and B--ch and even fight now and again. But week in and out, they come back and support the place, because they love it and to those fans and drivers, its there track, no matter who owns the place.... Hell they've been abused by more than one owner.... There Family, with good nights and bad........ya don;t like the racing at LPS, don;t go.... Hell most nights anybody can find something to B.....about......but the Racers and the Fans.....There up front, down home, take us as we are folks. Folks that will Race you hard on the track, fight at the drop of a hat and then pick ya up and buy you a beer, loan you parts and help you put your car back togather, so they can do it all over again next week.... Awh Hell, whats not to Love about that....at Put theirs no doubt,,,,,,,,they will always...........wanna race..........Wolfe-e
