Dateline: Terre Haute

News Bulletin;

THIS JUST IN!

After being forewarned of this danger, thousands still ignored the warning and were held hostage again here last night.

After being held for almost 8 hours, 29 sprint teams, Usac & their race fans were forced to watch a track prep that should have been completed when the hostage ticket selling began. All were finally released just b4 curfew.

On a more positive note all vendors & concessions reported record sales.

That is all.

So what is your point?

Re: Dateline: Terre Haute

Too Funny....The race teams were given a $50 gas card to defray the costs of using a 50K+ Sptinter to bring in the track surface and the fans recieved a box of chocolates and 17 slide jobs. Don.t confuse finding some humor with complaining.

Standing in turn one of the infield and watching the 1st cars hot lapping even though a little late it was all worth it! I didnt feel like i got taken hostage. Some things in life are just worth the wait!:8:

A buddy of mine said the feature really did turn out to be an unbelievable show with Coons and Jones battling it out; plus DD's run from 19th to 3rd.

Just say No! - to all the freakin' negativity

Re: Dateline: Terre Haute

Or we could have no races at THAT. How's that sound to you? IIRC, nobody would step up to the plate and promote at THAT. Mike King and Davey Hamilton and company took a chance with this deal, investing time, money and effort to try to make it work. There was a danger of it going away forever, right?

After all the griping about it, I wouldn't be surprised if they just threw in the towel and let the place rot. Who could blame them?

If you don't like what they are doing there, don't go. Better still, why don't one of you armchair quarterbacks take over as promoter and we will applaud you when you do the job to perfection.

if they cant do any better than what they have done they should throw in the towel.......they have not invested enough time in their endeavor thats for sure... if your gonna run a business do it properly...

I miss Jaimie Reed. Seemed like the track was ready when it was supposed to be while he was there and the racing was good. All you sprint car guys had complain about was the running of us modifieds guys:6:.

I agree 100%. I attended last year's races the THAT and they were so bad with track prep I swore I would never attend another race until someone had a clue in regard to track prep. Winter time, with no sprint car racing, makes one reconsider earlier decisions. I telephoned the THAT about a month ago in regard to a couple of ticket questions for last night's show. I left a message and my telephone numbers. I am STILL waiting on the return phone call. Due to their poor customer service skills in NOT returning a telephone call and lack of management ability in preparing a racing surface, I did not attend last nights show. This decision saved me $75.00 in tickets, $70.00 in gas, $30.00 - $40.00 in dinner, $15.00 in concessions and 11 hours of time. I am curious how many other sprint car fans the THAT has ran off?

I would say the term "agony and pain" is how a person with cancer could describe their illness. This is racing, dude. If you have agony and pain at a race, then you're doing something drastically wrong.

One of the best races I have ever seen. Mistakes were made, yes. But the feature made up for it in my book.

no, if we have agony and pain at a track because of the PROMOTERS mistakes then THEY are doing something wrong..... I promised myself after a trip there last year that I wouldn't be back untill 2 things happened, 1 was DA being gone and 2 someone else would step in and PROVE they could run the place better, if this had been under the last promoter then all the people who are praising the new group would be throwing DA under the bus, driving it over him and backing up for another shot.... sorry but you could MAYBE excuse this the first race but it seems they didn't learn much, don't worry, the fans will stay away and you guy who are willing to put up with this will have your choice of seats.....

One of the best races you've ever seen????? This place is a joke!!!! It has been going down hill for a while.. and just when you think it can't get any worse..tada...it does.

-Three and a half hours behind

- Zero track prep (unless you count dumping an ocean on top of a dried out joke of a surface) ever heard of a grader?

- Making $50k+ race cars pack your track .....twice!!!! Packing every joint, thread, and any other surface with MUD! not dirt ...MUD! The $50 gift certificate? OMG LOL

- Saying you'll get every piece of equiptment to pack the track... With 5 ..count em 5 push trucks siting in the DRIED OUT PIT AREA .. That had no bleepin lights working

- Seroiusly... scraping the mud of the dried out rock hard surface and dumping it into the infield ... lol ...It was entertaing to see stupiety at its finiest!!!!!

I could go on and on ...but I'm hungry... the racing eeehhhh well it was the first time in a while I could SEE it so I guess if you're looking for a silver lining... however i did go ...after swearing I wouldn't go ever again MULTIPLE TIMES... So see ya during Sprint Week I guess ... I'm messed up!!!!!!!

P.S. RIP Jesse Hockett You will be missed

I'm a firm believer in constructive criticism, Not bashing. I wouldn't call any bad night at the track barring Injury AGONY, You might be a little Miserable, upset, whatever but nobody's forcing you to either be or stay. You might say its wrong to hold your money hostage with the promises of a show going to take place but ??????

That track is awesome IMHO and I doubt there are a lot of money men willing to take it over, staff it and attempt to promote it. DA was a complete failure on a different level.

Id rather have racing at THAT than not, Mike King can take another promotions lesson from this, The prep guys can also.

I'll be a sprint week, Hope you are too!

Uh, yes! You can't tell me the battle between Coons and Levi was not badass sprintcar racing. I said one of the best "races", not one of the best track prep efforts I've ever seen.

Re: Dateline: Terre Haute

I understand the "constructive criticism" and complaining...after all, this is a message board open to discussion and opinions. However, as a fan who sat through the MSCS race a few weeks ago and another several hours of prep last night, I am not in the least bit angry/upset about what went on. Mr. King got on the PA and apologized (to the point I wanted the speakers to blow) and offered the fans a deal to a later race. NOW, if the next race is the same deal, and there is no discount or refund to us, the fans, I will be disappointed. All I can say is if you are a race fan go and enjoy the comradarie of other race fans and when the track is ready to go enjoy the races...or in last nights case, one of the best races of the year. If you can't handle the possibility of getting home a little past your bedtime, then stay home and watch highlights the next day. I will see you race fans at sprint week. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Memorial day weekend.

ok, let the place go then.. no more racing make it a track of the past that is now a Throw together community of cheap model homes so everyone can whine, piss and moan of how bad they miss it.. seriously?? enjoy the time at the track how long it may be.. because if they were to cancel it because of a rough track conditions then they still get beat up like Stewart does.. OR, pump the brakes on the sh@t talking and be glad its still around..

Re: Dateline: Terre Haute

:8:If I were the prep man , I would get on the PA and get some of the older and winnie complainers out and let them PREP the track . and see if they can do better , I know the track is a S--t hole these days , but it has had some of the fastest racing in the last few weeks that it has ever had . I remember the good old days when the cars would get on the brakes and slid from the flagman stand because the track was so dam dry and slick they would run 35 thur the turns and you could not see the cars . Thats TRACK PREP . I'll wait it out any day to see as fast a track as the last 2 races have been , and yes I am old to , but enjoy a fast As- track even if I have to wait a few hours. Complainers go to the FAIR and waste your money on over priced stuff and NO entertainment , blow a couple of hundred dollar at the fair and get nothing out of it . You have just seen a couple of the Fastest races in THAT history as far as speed is concerned. :26:

You are right the track ended up fast as hell both nights but the TIMING of getting it that way was the problem. You and I may be willing to wait them out but there are plenty who arent willing to wait or wont come back after they do. If those "Complainers" dont come back you and I wont have a race to go to. Get it?

axsom#11 5/30/10 2:41 PM

Re: Dateline: Terre Haute

Hope that does not happen , love the track , they just need someone to get the prep and PR stuff in order . Hope they get it together before they lose to many more fans :22:

I was listening to the radio broadcast of The 500 opening ceremonies.

And the one and only Mike King was concerned because the ceremonies were running 2 minutes late. I find that ironic.
