Todd Kirkman #16k

Just wanted to give everyone an update on Todd. After the wreck in 1 and 2 last night Todd suffered from multiple face fractures. He has a shattered cheek, a broken jaw, and a fracture around his eye socket. All other test were negative. He obviously has some swelling and as soon as the swelling goes down they will take him to Indianapolis to have some surgery. Please put Todd and the entire Kirkman family in your prayers. I want to thank Mr. Kinser and Mr. Spencer for the support at the track. I will keep everyone updated if things change.

A number of hard hits last night at Kokomo. Sorry to hear the news about Todd but hoping he returns to the cockpit in very short order.

Like most accidents, it isn't how hard you hit but how you hit. Here is to a quick recovery.

Not that it makes any difference in the outcome, but after viewing the video at http://www.millsvideoproductions.com/, it wasn't a tire that made contact with todd's helmet but actually the rear bumper :18: . Pretty scary lookin when you slow it down. Continued prayers for Todd, Miss, and the whole gang.

First of all, thank you to all of our racing "family" for the calls, thoughts and prayers for Todd. To update you, Todd will be undergoing surgery on Thursday in Indianapolis to repair the numerous fractures in his cheek, jaw and around his eye, and should be released Friday. Much to his relief, this is not a racing career ending injury, but it will likely be fall before he can consider getting back on the track.

Special thanks to the track owners, track and safety personel, the Bullick and Foreman families, and other racing teams who helped out on Sunday and have continued to show us support and assistance.

I will post another update on Thursday.

Again, thank you so much.

I copied these from the Microsprint website www.maximumdirt.com

The Kirkman family would like to thank the Miami Co. Speedway family for bringing the food to the hospital while we are waiting for Todd to get out of surgery. YOU ARE A CLASS ACT!!! Todd went into surgery about 11:30 and will be out of surgery in 2.5 to 3 hours. Thanks again for your support and prayers.

God Bless each one of you.
Charlie

Update on Todd. He is out of surgery and is in recovry. The Drs said everything when pretty good and he should be out of recovery in about an hour. They think he should recover just fine, and with your prayers I'm sure he will.

Re: Todd Kirkman #16k

Todd is back in his room now and everything is looking really good at this point. The surgeons had to use 3 plates, 12 screws and an implant to repair the damage, but he already looks so much better. Recovery time may be a little longer than he had hoped and will also depend on whether he has to have additional surgery on his jaw. We will know more on that next week but the doctors who did the work today are hopeful that the repair work they did today will do the trick.

Even though he is still groggy he said he was having some great dreams. Of course it involved racing. His doctors just shake their heads!

Thank you again for all of your calls, thoughts and prayers!

Cindy

Tim you are right. I don't know how to post pictures but the picture by Cary Manvel clearly shows the bumper in the cage. The link to the picture is http://manvelmotorsports.smugmug.com...77237060_yRtki

You are right about the bumper, at my angle all we could see was the tire come around after the bumper had done the damage. Todd is a strong kid and will be back as soon as he can. Dan & Cindy have been friends and sponsors of Spencer Racing since Josh ran the 600, without them we could have not made the jump into the big car. They will continue to help this sport that we love one way or another as they love racing as much as we do.
Get well kid and just call if you need anything.

11:00 am Friday and I just got off the phone with Missy Kirkman. She said they are headig home and that he feels pretty good considering what he went through. The doctors said they have never seen swelling go down so fast and that's a good sign. Hope to have him healthy soon, Keep Todd in your prayers and hope for a speedy recovery.
