May 29th Best Place to Be......
Spend my money at ORP with the midgets or Anderson with the sprints? Never witnessed either race! Or is there a better place to spend my racing money? Looking for recommendations!:23:

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Anywhere there is a racetrack is the best place to be. Actually the Little 500 is great , and if you have to pick, go there. The Night Before midgets may also be as good this year with the support races they are having. Its just a matter of what you want to see.

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
ORP>..Lawrenceburg, Paragon...Putnamville...all great choices....but if you have never seen the Little 500 in Anderson... ITS A MUST SEE
|
Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
I would either go to ORP or Anderson. You can go to the others all season. Been to both they are both great shows. Ususlly go to ORP since it is only 5 miles from home but you cant lose either way

I recommend Anderson and the Little 500. And I strongly recommend bringing a walkman type radio (and a change of baytteries!) and a decent set of earbuds. The track has a one watt radio channel to listen to because the noise makes PA worthless. And there has been a local radio station that covers it as well. When I've spotted races there in the past I've done this to keep an ear on what's happening. There is a scoreboard but it gets behind sometimes...

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Scott, where do I tune my walkman to get the one watt station and the local station ???
I also would tell the first guy to go to the Little 500. :6::31::31: |
Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Try searching the FM radio band in the 88~96 mhz. range. I was able to hear the Anderson Speedway one watt signal almost 2 miles from the track as I was leaving the little 5 in 2004. If I remember, the station was 93~95 mhz. Good Luck, you will have a blast at the race! Scott A. Solem, KB8ZCB Call sign.

definetly the little 500 been to it 20 straight years only one of the 2 ive been to. I couldnt ever see myself skipping the little 500 for a midget race that i would have to drive even further to see.

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
One of the things I like about the Little 500 is that they have all the drivers gather in a tent behind the grandstand for an autograph session. Great way to meet both Midwest drivers you may not have seen and others from around the country and Canada who are in this part of the country once a year. I have been to both and find the Little 500 to be more of an event. IRP really doesn't seem to try that hard.
However, the bottom line is sprints vs. midgets + support classes. I don't think you will be disappointed by either. |
Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
lITTLE 500 WITHOUT QUESTION. This race should be on every race fans bucket list. IMO the racing at IRP just isnt that great.

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
The Little 5......only once a year......nothing else like it.
This will be our 10th in a row.....kinda like a Lay's tater chip..."ya can't eat just one"... Overheard at the Indy 500 a few years ago at about lap 4...."wow, that start was ALMOST as cool as the Little 5"....:9: See y'all there :6: |
Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Little 500 for sure. :22:

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
I love watching midgets run but there is only one race on the 29th. There isn't another race like the Little 500. Once you have gone to it, a return trip is in order. Enjoy!:6:

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Any other old timers out there like me? I went to the FIRST Little 500 in 1949 and followed with the 50-51-52-53-54 runs before moving halfway across the country. Made return stops in 2004 and 2008 and I can tell you there is NOTHING, NOTHING like the start of the annual Little 500 in the sport of automobile racing.

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
The Little 500 is the place to be. The start of the race still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. This will be my 62nd Little 500, I can't wait. Any IOW members stop by the Checker'd Past compound at the Anderson Speedway campground and say "Hi".

I dont think that was a shot at the operator, sometimes even transponders can get behind

I will say though in the years that we have had the new scoreboard I don't remember it ever getting behind or wrong for the Little 500!...and I would remember that because it would make me a nervous wreck to have to go manual on that race.....lol |
Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Little Five....Go early, take protective gear, watch the excietment build. If you don't see a good race I'll give you double your money back. Enjoy!!

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Best place to be on May 29th is high in the stands in turn 4 at Anderson for the most unreal sight in racing, sprint cars, 11 rows of 3, coming down for the green flag...on a 1/4 mile track.... no starters, no clutches and PIT STOPS, 500 laps of ground shaking wheel to wheel racing. If you've never been then go, I promise you'll start looking forward to NEXT years Little 500 the day after it's over.....this will be my 27th, saw my first when I was 10 years old.

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
night before the 500 midgets for me. i like the high speed slide jobs going into 3. staying 3 miles away and that is a big factor. only been to one little 5. quite the spectacle.

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Attended my first Little 500 last year and it was amazing. A fantastic duel between Gordon and Steele with the winning pass made just 27 or so laps from the finish...unbelievable. I don't see us going anywhere but Anderson in the future on the night before the big race...especially considering our fantastic upgrade in seats this year! But I've been to several "Night Before the 500's," and one "Little 500"...and I would totally recommend the Little. It is something you won't regret whether the race is good or not.:22:

Re: May 29th Best Place to Be......
Thanks for all of the input, while I realize I need to see the Little 500 in the near future, I am going to ORP this Saturday. The facility was a big factor in my decision, and I hope that Sun Valley replaces their bleachers in the near future before someone gets hurt!!:23:
