Putnamville May 15 $2000 to win Sprint Cars...

I just found out that Putnamville is going to pay $2000 to win for the sprint cars this Saturday night (MAY 15th). Now, I am sure someone is going to ask what it pays to start, so in advance... I don't know that.

Sprint cars will qualify this Saturday.

I am curious to know what format for qualifying do the teams prefer?

My personal favorite is a mix between USAC style qualifying and group qualifying....
Group qualify against guys who will be in your heat...
Line-up heats straight up by qualifying time.... No invert.
B main lines up by qualifying time.
And the feature lines up heat finishers then B main transfers.
All drivers transferring from heat race in position 1... line-up by time...
All drivers transferring from heat race in position 2... line-up by time...and so on.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone. These are my ideas... I am interested to hear what you think.

I like that idea Bill, and I would like to see them give it a try.

This is a dumb Saturday to pay extra. A lot of cars will be at Terre Haute for the MSCS show. They should have had the higher money on Indy Pole Day, May 22 when there is only a USAC midget show in Iowa to conflict.

IF you must time trial, group qualify against others in your own heat, invert at least 6.

qualify only on special events. weekly go by draw last week went by draw made for better racing fans say they are tired of seeing fast cars start on front all the time draw mixes fast and slow cars yohave to race in heats just my 2 cents why not ask the fans.

This fan likes the idea of qualifying against the poeple in your own heat if you must qualify.

I also like the draw idea because it forces everyone to race their way in and also makes each position very important because it determines your starting position in the feature.

Thank you Kenny Carmichael !!

I want to see cars racing, not racing against the clock! I dont mind time trials for "special events" just not for the weekly races every week.

When I was growing up,even though it was stock cars on pavement, they lined the heats and features up by points, and the point leaders started in the back every week. They all seemed to make it to the front each week too!

I understand what your point is... but I've never thought paying drivers more was a dumb idea. ;)

What about increasing payout in all classes? $100 for 5th in the modifieds is embarrassing.

Wallsracing 5/12/10 9:04 PM

I say whoever has most cars in their class should get the bonus..its 80 for 5th in the bomber

Re: Putnamville May 15 $2000 to win Sprint Cars...

Why pay $2,000 to win on the same day against a MSCS show at Terre Haute? THAT only races four times all year, so it appears there is plenty of time to schedule a $2,000 to win race so it doesn't conflict with another higher paying race. LPS will lose fans and cars that they would have had if they didn't have a conflict...why do this? Track owners/Promoters should work together!

will drivers that don't think they will make the show at terrahaute go to put and try to win big?

That's as good of a system as you're going to get. Drivers get rewarded for qualifying good, but get a chance to make up for it, if they can beat the faster qualifiers in their heat. Plus, a system like that sets them apart from the other racing programs out there. The closest thing to it would be Kokomo.

Well it look as though the weather is going to be nice. the pay will should attract the guys who dont have the motor for THAT. I think both places will have decent car counts. I know I am planning on taking the wife and my little boy to LPS on saturday unless something changes between now and then. Also I would love to see a track go to the method that Bill posted for a weekly show. I think that is the fairest of ways to do thing.

Re: Putnamville May 15 $2000 to win Sprint Cars...

I do like that format. No matter what format is used, I think they should put the B Main transfers behind all of the heat transfers. Reward the drivers who raced in throgh the heats. If you win the B, you should not start on the front row. Now, if you win a heat, that's a different story.

Re: Putnamville May 15 $2000 to win Sprint Cars...

Don't get me wrong. I am for paying drivers more across the board. I really like that Lawrenceburg puts their money where their mouth is and has increased their weekly payouts, but there is still room to improve EVERYWHERE! I just wish promotors would do a little better job working together. This would have been a good weekend for sprints possilbly be off at Putnamville and spread a little extra money around the other classes, then come back next week with $2,000 to win sprint show and get over 40 sprints to show up, and a lot of fans possibly between pole day and bump day.

Re: Putnamville May 15 $2000 to win Sprint Cars...

I understand that people would rather see a $2,000 to win show at LPS on a night other than the $3,000 MSCS show at THAT but...

If they push the race back a week to May 22nd then they compete with the $2,500 to win KISS show at Lawrenceburg. Another week later, the 29th, it is Memorial weekend and MSCS has a $2,000 to win show at Lawrenceburg (plus you have the Little 500 sprints at Anderson & Night Before the 500 midgets at ORP).

The next weekend, June 5th, is KISS/MSCS sprints at Haubstadt ($2,500 to win). June 12th Lawrenceburg has the Mel Johnson Classic with two features (the first paying $2,500 to win/$400 to start and the second $800 to win.$100 to start).

In this 5 week time frame Paragon also runs every Saturday with 2 races (June 5th & 12th) paying $1,000 to win. LPS & Lawrenceburg run sprints every Saturday, Waynesfield (OH) has sprints May 22nd & June 5th, the ASCT has races scheduled every weekend, Illinois Sprint Week is June 8-13, etc.

NOBODY SHOULD COMPLAIN WHEN A TRACK PAYS MORE, PERIOD.:6:

I won't be there, but I think it's great. Keep up the good work Mr. Spiker.

Re: Putnamville May 15 $2000 to win Sprint Cars...

EXACTLY!! We should all feel fortunate that we have choices on where to go watch good sprint car racing. What's wrong with letting some of the drivers that don't have the funds and backing to run a place like THAT or a USAC show make a little extra money. I guarantee you they will race just as hard as the big guns!!

I can’t think of a much better way to do it, especially for the drivers that are truly good.

I like the idea that P-ville is stepping up the purse money. Thanks Joe. As far as the draw goes find something that works and stick to it. I personaly like to qualify and Race for my starting spot through the Heats. Invert top 4 in heats. Heat winners start up front in the A. I believe this was week #2 format.

i love every one of the promoters and i love to live in southeastern indiana :8: i as a sprint car fan can have a great sprint car race and see which track that will have the best action in 100 miles and that is where i will be at . see you all at that sat. night :22:

I would like to thank spiker for giving some people an option two run somewhere else for some nice money. Back off this is his first full year and is trying to do his very best. He is learning. I have been to pville once this year out of three races but from what i have seen so far i am glad he has taken over a race track i love. Racers ***** about no quals cause of bad draws then fans dont care at them and want him to just have a pill draw. SO what is he to do. His name is one the lease and he can make the decisions. Joe if you read this DO AS YOU SEE FIT. And there will always be great racing at pville no matter who shows up.

Track is dusty with a passing sprinkle. Rain is coming but not enough to cancel, might slow things down a littlle.

The big rain is breaking up as time goes on.
