Hornet took down turn 3 fence. We might be done. No features run yet. This stinks. Driver is ok thankfully. About 16 midgets. 22 sprints. Midget heats won by Cottle and Beauchamp. Sprint heats won by JR Douglas and Gaines.
Posted via Mobile Device ---------- Post added at 09:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ---------- Races have now been called for tonight. Posted via Mobile Device |
They just cancelled everything. Said feature was not set due to not running dash.when everyone is in show Ten people in stands so obviously a loss. Gurley offered a whopping 100 and cancel the show and if they rescheduled it would be a full show. The feature is set whether they believe it or not. They just ****** everyone over totally. They should have paid everyone at least start money after everyone paid fees bought tires and pitpasses. The asct will not last. What a god damn joke. More to come with further decelopments.
Posted via Mobile Devicegurley has supposedly left without paying. Sorry for spelling. On the phone. |
Re: north vernon
NO surprise!
|
Gurley is paying the hundred per car. But after a 155 dollar tire, 25 dollar temp permit, and 30 per person pitpass I think everyone got screwed without the lube.

Re: north vernon
Why couldn't the fence be repaired?
|
I agree. They have fixed it for a USAC race. They should at least pay everyone their start money. I think since they had 10 people in the stands they figured cut the losses.

Re: north vernon
the fence couldnt be repaired because it was a piece of **** to begin with not too mention they ha a dirt mound against the wall that acted as a ramp for the hornet to pump right over the wall. That track is a piece of ****. Not to mention no one knew who was in charge, at the beginning of the week fleetwood said the asct was in charge but after they canceled the race asct had to ask fleetwood how they should pay the midget guys and sprint guys. It was a complete cluster ****.

Re: north vernon
I talked to a few friends of mine at Montpelier tonight about this sprint and midget series. We were curious to see what happened tonight in their debut, and I hope this isn't a setback for the future. I think the June 4th race at Montpelier has potential to be a good one for both the sprints and midgets.

Re: north vernon
I just got home, Lets just say, IM NOT HAPPY AT ALL and Im going a different way as the show was AS ADVERTISED.
The track however, WTH? I blame the whole deal on the track and not the ASCT. There was a meeting called with the drivers after the fence came down. The track wasn't going to fix it, Probably couldn't, Who called it, I HAVE NO IDEA! I do know they called all drivers to the pit stands. They were there a good 15 plus minutes before I started seeing push trucks leaving the property and knew it was over for myself. Car count, I was pleasantly surprised actually, IDK, I think there was two full up midgets, The 1200 NW Minis were competitive, Its really close I'll tell ya, Think the full up pulls a bit more in the straight but what, Theres 25,000 difference in motor cost? WHile I hate Winged Mini's COUNT ME A FAN OF THE NW. Few notable names in attendance in one class or the other but I think there is room for a Budget Sprint class and a NEED! Was great to see steals and iron going at it. Different size motors ect. What sprint car racing used to be and what a full time employee somewhere with a decent job, Could afford to do. The tracks know the fence was in inadequacy for a long while, Add the fact that in 1,2 and three turns the tracks built up to within a couple feet of the top of the wall. DISASTER in which I seen a mini stock do ten flips take down ten poles and go dam near through the pit booth. (That area) While I blame the track, Im kick-in myself in the ass for driving past LBurg knowing they do everything in their power to put on a good show and almost always do. I stopped twice between burg and TC seeing trailers going to burg but I kept going. Even had time to turn around and make burg but looking over 3-4 wall, I see a full pit area. Pay my admission and settle in to what should have been a damn good show. The participants certainly would have pulled it off and were doing so up until the fence came down. Chuck Races attended so far, 5. Races seen, One complete show (Burg opener) One heat, Bloom last night and four dusted out hotlaps. Rain won twice. |
Re: north vernon
The night was going real well right up until the moment when the Hornet went through the fence......not much they could do after that. The fence is in horrible shape as it is and there was a huge gap in it after the wreck. Lot's of guys were saying they should run the races but that would have been nuts. Anyone going over that wall could have been impailed by the remaining fence or ended up in the woods. I had already told my kid don't plan on running if they clear the track to continue with the fence looking like that.
The good: The track was in great shape.....damp and packed down, the racing had been great up until the fence debacle. The bad: That 'safety' fence is horrible, heaven help us if a car gets into it somewhere along the grandstands. Heard the driver that ended up in the woods was OK.....that was the best news of the night. |
Re: north vernon
its a bad deal no matter what the out come was.

Re: north vernon

Re: north vernon

How about the those minisprints running down those midgets!

Ah, well, I was looking forward to calling the show. I did get to call a pair of Sprint and Midget heats.
My first visit to the track (while there were races running) and I was honored that the ASCT was willing to give me a shot at the PA. Snagged a couple of photos ... http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10001.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10010.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10016.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10017.jpg http://http://i210.photobucket.com/a...s5-8-10026.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10040.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10042.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10044.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10037.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...s5-8-10045.jpg |

Since we have read about the track surface and the catch fence as a racer view point can anyone give some imput as a fan view point about the facilities. The last time I was there for a Indy Sprint Week which some time ago it wasn't the best. Have any improvements been made to the restrooms (when I was there it wasn't much more than a glorified outhouse) or to the concessions stand. I was in Vernon the other night and never did find the road to the track or I could have over look any signage to the track. Just would like some feed back as I would like to take in the track some time in the future if improvements have been made.

Re: north vernon
their was only 75-100 people in the stands
|
Re: north vernon
In the stand I was sitting in in turn four, I counted 31 fans. My estimate for the entire crowed based on that was about 125. Not good. But the weather certainly did not help at all.
I only saw that one yellow sign on the way in to the track. Luckily I've driven there before, so I knew where it was. If I recall correctly, I seem to remember there used to be a lot of signage around town with arrows pointing to where the track was. They're not there anymore for some reason. The concession stands looked good. The food was good. The restrooms were a little rough. There was no light in there, but pretty comparable to many local racetracks. Obviously as previously mentioned, the fence needs a lot of help and something needs to be done to the wall in turn three. Either decrease the banking or heighten the wall. The racing was good, so no qualms with that. |
Re: north vernon
Did the 100 people in the stands get a refund?????

Wow, couldn't see this one coming, sure feel sorry for the drivers/teams that showed up.Hopefully a lesson learned here.Anyone find it kind of odd that there has been no response from any of the ASCT people, Gurley,Stapp or "Big Jim" or whatever his name is.
After this debacle I wouldn't blame anyone for not running with this outfit again. After all the hype we listened to over the last weeks, sounded like some car salesman trying to sell oceanfront property in Arizona.:42:: |
