Who's going to Salem this weekend for Must See?
Just curious how many IOW guys are planning on making the trip to Salem this weekend for the inaugural run for Must See Racing.
Jim Hanks has a lot of time, effort and money sunk into this. I wish him success! Going to be a hellava show I think. A lot of great drivers going to be there with the wings on their cars. :6: |

I'm going to Salem. Even though I'm working, it's not really work because I too think it will be a helluva show.
Jim has invested a lot of sweat and time and money into making sprint car racing stronger and I hope the event (and the season) is a great success. |

I would go, but the Hut Hundred is at TSS. By the way, aren't there about two dozen "special" races running in Indiana Saturday night?

What's the car count look like? I was very curious to see if it would be good.I would also like to see us fans take some steps for the salem race later in the season.Lets put up some cash if someone can win both the wing and non wing portions.Just an idea I know how those have been going lately on here..

Re: Who's going to Salem this weekend for Must See?
I was definitely planning to attend to support my main man, Hurryin' Hank Lower and also to watch all the other great drivers in this series. However, just this past week my wife and I drove over 1600 miles for work, so the idea of driving another 500 mile 'round trip was a bit daunting.
I talked to Hank tonight on the phone -- I didn't ask him about car count, but I'm pretty sure there will be 27 - 30 cars there. Everyone involved with Jim Hank's MUST-SEE series, as well as the H.O.S.S. series teams, are very excited about this summer's races. It's gonna be GREAT! James |

Eleven cars were on hand for today's practice session at Salem. Among those in attendance was Michigan's Jason Blonde, who was caught on stop watches just a tick off Kevin Feeney's four-year-old track record of 14.377-seconds.

[You guys always have to take shots at USAC. Let's see if Must See is around in 60 years.]
We're all sprint car fans -- wings, no wings, dirt, pavement -- it really makes no difference to me. I just love sprint cars! I do believe it is exciting that a new series is bringing out 31 cars on a cold May evening. Something to celebrate whether or not we're all pavement fans or not. Fact is, I grew up watching Lloyd Beckman and Lonnie Jensen and Wolfgang and Dick Sutcliffe and Jan Opperman and a dozen more stars run at Eagle and Midwest and Sunset speedways out in Nebraska. I never even knew sprints ran on pavement until I came to Indiana! I met Hurryin' Hank Lower in around 1987 or 1988, out on Baer Field Raceway before the feature race. We stood and chatted for about 20 minutes while they were preparing for the feature. He told me that night that, quote, "Asphalt is what you drive on when you go get groceries..." I thought that was rather comical since he was planning to do his best to win a race that evening on asphalt! So, obviously people change... I like both surfaces. Completely different races and cars -- both very exciting to watch. I like Gas City and Winchester best of the tracks I visit often -- diametrically different tracks, but both put on great races. Anyway -- anyone who is at Salem tonight -- please give us the qualification results, and the race line-ups and results! Thanks. James |
