Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
I just got off the phone with jack hewitt and he wants to help save eldora! How many race fans would like to see jack be the gm at eldora? I thank he would do a good job! And get the track in good shape! Please this is for real! Lets all tell tony what you think! Thanks duke

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
I'm for it. We know he would give it 100 % plus just like he
did with his driving. |
Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Sounds great but i'm not sure this will fly. Jack would probably want to turn it into a race track and I get the impression that Tony want the place to be Bristol north.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Sounds great to me! Jack Hewitt up by the wall on the highside .............. in a water truck!!!! Probably be some of the best shows the big E has had in a long while
|
Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
If given the ability to hire and fire , fine. If not, a waste of time.

I want this to happen!
I don't get to Eldora much in the summer because of my own stuff going, so the early and late stuff is usually what I go to. I was loading up to go when I found the news about Friday, and then Saturday a bit later. I don't honestly believe Tony wants to pave it (just buy Winchester!) But I do feel the people currently working it are strangling the history of the place! In my opinion the place needs some new (or maybe OLDER) ideas in track prep. Jack Hewitt-Good for Eldora! Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Jack is no bull*hitter, and everyone knows that. He is what Eldora needs, someone who will tell you the truth, good or bad. Right now they don't tell you anything .

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
maybe jack has the keys to the water truck
|
Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Do it hewitt!!!:6::8:

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Duke, of course everyone would like to see Jack in charge of the track. If he could work half the magic with a water truck and a grader that he did in an open wheel car... We could call him a five or six crown champ.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Duke, I'd have him fire ANYONE who doesn't pull their weight, from the ticket takers to the manager. If you can't do the job you'd be gone. Seems like right now there are a few draggin a$$.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Larry must have taken 7 days off last week..... i haven't seen what i would call a good track at the Eldora that would hold up all night for at least 10 years.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Boos has nothing in the track prep. Track prep is Kemps call.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
I was at the Sprint Week finale at Haubstadt in 07 where Clayton won the race. In the pits afterwards he and Helfrich were talking and there was a big group of us fans just listening. You could say Tommy was holding court haha. I asked him about what he thought about the current state of Eldora and he said that he and Kemp talk to each other over the phone quite a bit. Apparently it's not doing the track any good.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Let's face it...We have all lost hope in several things. One of those items is the famed high banks of Eldora being the best race track in the country. Yes, Tony HAS done wonders with the facilities! He has done that for sure! What we want is the BEST race surface and the BEST races! I don't think this is USAC's fault. It's not Tony's fault UNLESS he keeps the current mgt. team on board. THEN I would have to blame Tony. Stewart wants Eldora to be the best. Now he has to step up and do something at this point. We all know, When Hewitt believes in something - like Eldora, he will take ownership. They don't call him the "favorite son" @ the Big E for nothing! I'm sure for Hewitt - it's like watching someone demolish the ol' homeplace! At least with Hewitt, he could restore HOPE and FAITH in the fans and racers! That's what we all lost Friday night. Faith and Hope! I drove 6 hours for that? Never again.... unless I know it's going to pan out! IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Maybe larry does have to much on his hands.Thats were Jack could maybe take care of the track. But i was there friday and took a friend that had never had been to eldora before and it was really embarrasing. If Larry needs help then let Jack Hewitt be the man to help. But if it was me I would fire everyone who worked on that track Friday because it was ridiculous. We need to help Eldora out the best we can and quit bashing it. It can be a great track and everyone has had great memories there.Maybe if jack helped we could go back to the good ol days.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Earl's grandson Chad does the track work....When he got on the track on wednesday, he told Kemp there is no way it will be ready for Friday.
|
Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
I walked out on the track after the first hot laps and the dirt they put out on the track didnt even look like clay. It looked like they just loaded up somefield dirt from next door and put it on the track.Even when they did try to water it the clay wouldnt hold together.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Seems to me Larry and Larry are just riding coat tails, and need to be let go. The Indians may know what's going on but the Chiefs don't have a clue. Have been attending the big E since 1960, and for about the last 20 years I keep asking myself why, maybe last friday was my last.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
JACK gets my vote someone who cares about the racers , fans and the sport. Someone we can go talk to and he will listen to us and take time out for us like he always has.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
dew it hewitt is my hero YES GM FOR THE BIG E
|
Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Yes.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Amen to that!!!! I can't think of anyone more deserving. Just think of all the butts he has put in seats at Eldora over the years. Didn't he used to be announced as "Eldora's Favorite Son". Probably my all-time favorite memory at Eldora was the 4-Crown in Sep. 1998. After he swept all the features, he sat on the frontstretch in a chair and signed autographs, hugged the women, and kissed the babies. Or vice-versa. But he is probably just too honest and candid. I can't think of any one action(personel-wise) that would be so simple and would bring alot of true fans back to Eldora. I know several who would go just to see Jack and support him. Maybe Tony feels he wouldn't fit in with the new VIP fans that come to the Prelude. I think Jack would surprise Tony in that regard. I looked for either Larry as I was leaving Eldora on Friday night. I thought they might be out by the ticket office to answer questions, but all i seen was angry fans and a few Deputy Sheriff's. How sad.

Re: Eldora speedway & jack hewitt
Earls grandson Chad has proven he can put a good track together when given the chance, and that is ussually only when Tony is there himself where he is ussually given that freedom. Most other times it is dictated from above of what he can and cant do and when.
Also he really has no say on what type of soil and other additives are are used. Earl used to get the blue clay from right in back of the track, but it required grooming to keep in shape. Now it seems like they are looking for quick fix solution of the week to minimize the amount of effort it takes to prep the track so more time can be used for bleacher building. |
